Will be interesting to see if this starts a trend with other players in the league taking this role at their alma mater.

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry has accepted a role with his alma mater Davidson College as an assistant general manager for the basketball programs, university officials told ESPN.

Curry becomes the first active player in U.S. major professional sports to take an administrative job with an NCAA team.

In his new role, Curry, who played three seasons at Davidson (2006-09), will provide guidance to the men's and women's teams based on his college and professional experience.

He'll work with general manager Austin Buntz, a former Under Armour global sports marketing team member. Curry first signed with Under Armour in 2013 and launched his own Curry Brand as a standalone venture with the company in 2020. He also signed a lifetime contract shoe deal in recent years.

Arkansas is loaded. Granted, the injury bug got them during the season, but they grossly underperformed early. They should never have been a 10 seed. Kansas and St John’s were dealt a raw deal, much like Kansas State and Wichita State ran into in March of 2014.

It sounds more like a consultant role with not a ton of responsibility.

A little more than just a 'consultant role'. He will be putting together an 8-figure fund to support the basketball teams there which is much what I expected in this role $$$. That will help pay their players more than they were accustomed with more funds to work with, which should attract players a notch above what they usually get. I don't see them contending with the biggest schools, but this is a step up for the school when it gets approved.
