OT Reds get Puig, Kemp and Wood from LA for Bailey and prospects

Truth.

I will add that I really like Billy as a person.

No doubt. Seems like a great kid. Watching him be able to go home from 3rd on a pop-fly 5-10 feet(ok maybe it was 20 feet but still impressive) in to the OF was a thing of beauty.

Nothing but positive for the reds

Kemp has been decent lately, maybe flip him to a contender at the deadline
Either hope Puig gets his head on straight or hope for a good year and flip
Wood, though often injured, is a very good pitcher
Bailey just needed to go for a multitude of reasons
Not much downside really.

I will say I really like Homer personally. I got to know him when he first came up with the Reds, and we’ve had beers and played golf together numerous times. I texted him when I got news of the trade and wished him well.

That being said, it’s time for a change of scenery for him.

Poetic license man. Baseball isn’t all stats, it’s history and poetry. I’m seeing the ghosts of Crosley Field avenged the weekend before Christmas. Facts are irrelevant at such a time.
Haha well said

Love the history of baseball, been watching the Reds since about 2003 (I’m 28). Grew up with a father who loved UK, Reds, and the Bengals. I adopted 2 of those and became a Buccaneers fan lol. I sure am excited for this move and the moves yet to come to get back to winning pennants

That's pretty cool. Despite what I said about his arm, I'm a Bailey fan. He always seemed like a great guy and he loved the Reds. Like you said, it was time to cut bait.

Nice Kev. I worked in minor league baseball and know about 5 major leaguers including the dude who just won the AL Cy Young, Blake Snell and Dodgers outfielder Joc Peterson.

I’ll always remember Bailey for his 2 no-hitters.

This is why I laugh at people who want to bail on the Kentucky Wildcats because they haven't won it all in six years or been to the Final Four in three.

I've only ever loved two sports teams in my life -- the Kentucky Wildcats and Cincinnati Reds. Both date back to the 1960s. I've seen a total of seven championships in those 50-plus years, along with a handful of very near misses, and consider myself richly rewarded. If you pretend to love a team but don't have the stomach to ride out a few decades of misery, as with the Reds, you are just kidding yourself.
Been a Reds' fan all of my life and will continue to do so. Same with the Bengals and I honestly don't know which team is the most frustrating. As for UK, I'm a 1981 grad and I've seen highs and lows for over 50 years. If you follow a team long enough there's going to be disappointments and elations as well. Bottom line; it's impossible to win every year and just about all programs go through tough times. It could always be worse when one recalls the probation years.

I can't remember a time when Homer ever complained about anything. He didn't make excuses either. Wherever he ends up if it's not the Dodgers you are still getting a class act.

Agree, I wouldn’t trade my top guys for him. If you’re gonna go big for a starter, throw it at the Mets for Syndergaard or DeGrom
I agree too. Thor or deGrom would be terrific. If the Reds insist on trading with Cleveland...I'm hoping it's for Trevor Bauer instead of Kluber.

He did refuse to pitch out of the bullpen

Bauer and Puig in the same locker room would certainly be interesting. I’m all for it lol

Yeah, the thing about Homer I respect the most is how intense of a competitor he is. He’s also a tireless worker. He hates to lose and no matter all the injury setbacks, he did everything physically possible to return, even though his contract was totally guaranteed.

This says a lot about his character imo.

Though I know his career didn’t come close to what we all hoped for, he’s still a winner in my eyes.

Saw my first major league game ever on August 2nd, 1967, at Crosley Field. Reds beat the Braves 7-3 and Pete Rose hit a home run from each side of the plate.

Hated that he had arm trouble. Looked as if he was on his way to being one of the best long term.

I'm not really going to count that against a career starter. I can see why it could be a negative, though.

I like Homer overall but I didn’t like that especially with his struggles and the money he was making. But back to positives, Go Reds!

As someone who watches 95% of the Reds games, i love it.

Decent prospects going to LA but Josiah Gray is a pitching prospect and you never know how that’ll go, Homer Bailey was the worst pitcher in baseball last year and owed a ton of money, and Jeter Downs was a decent prospect who may turn out to be a good mlb player.

Puig is going to rake in GABP, Alex Wood is pretty solid, and Kemp is still decent but could be flipped to an AL to be a DH. And Kyle Farmer was once a well regarded catchin prospect

Overall, the prospects given up weren’t a huge loss in my eyes. Good to see the reds active, haven’t seen that in a number of years
At least they're doing something. We'll see how it works out but it shows that management is trying to improve the team. I thought that the Reds have had some good, young players on the team but sorely lacking in pitching.

This is the most important thing. Pitching was just a disaster the past two seasons.

Reds still need pitching, dodgers just released Homer Bailey. Maybe a Reunion is in order?

I would have traded Bailey for a bucket of used balls. I can't believe anyone actually took him and his salary for a year.

Lol the Reds got Joe Morgan, Geronimo, and Billingham for Lee May and Tommy Helms! That’s highway robbery looking back on it. They also gave up nothing for George Foster, Tom Seaver, etc
You beat me to it!!

I cried as a little boy when the Reds traded Frank Robinson for Milt Pappas, Jack Baldschun and Wayne Simpson. And my dad said to me, ‘be brave son. Someday the Reds will get the better of a blockbuster deal.”

Puig is no Frank Robinson. But getting him, another legitimate hitter a starting pitcher AND dumping Homer Bailey - while getting $7.5 million? This may be the closest day in more than 50 years to proving dad right.
I remember that deal and while a lot were upset they didn't realize that Frank Robinson did not want to be in Cincinnati. Pappas turned out to be a decent starter but had some injuries that hampered his performance. I saw Wayne Simpson take a no-hitter against the Cardinals into the sixth inning in 1970 but gave up a bloop single and he couldn't get anyone out after that. As I recall, he won 13 out of 14 games that season then it was discovered that he had ligament damage and didn't pitch in the World Series. Sadly, he was never the same after that.

Wire report says that he's been released by the Dodgers an hour just after they picked him up.

My connection is Pete. Long story, but I met him his rookie year. Later on I got to hang with him for a weekend. Chauffeured him around.

Cockiest and most obnoxious guy I ever met. But I always knew I was in the presence of Royalty!

I started at UK in the fall of 77 when the Reds were 2 time defending champs. Spent more time at Riverfront than classes. Loved the Big Red Machine. In 77 Foster was outrageous. 50 hr, 149 rbi and just missed the triple crown by .018 behind Dave Parker, a future Red. I was at the games when Rose got 3,000 and 4,000, Seaver got his 3,000th strike out. Also sat in the blue seats on row 2 directly behind home to watch Tom Terrific and J.R. Richard lock up in an epic fastball fest. Reds took it 3-2 on a late run but Richard stuck out 15 and Seaver 8 or 9. Was there in 83 for Johnny Bench night when he slammed a homer. If they had kept the Big Red Machine team together it had 3 or 4 more titles in it . Sparky was a genius.
Made a small fortune in 1990 when the Reds swept the A's. Last great memories I have of my Reds. Almost 30 years and they haven't done a damn thing since then.
Any way looks like a good trade for the Reds if Puig get's his act together in a contract year he could easily hit 40 dingers and Wood can be an ace. Live arm. I love Joey and hope this will give him another chance at post season but his and Homers contracts have weighed this franchise down. At least Joey has produced some. Homer has been dead weight since he signed his biggie. To bad he couldn't stay healthy and ever reach his full potential. New manager and some new players will make this an interesting season hopefully.

Where did you work in Minor League?
Wasn't in the Carolina League, was it?

I did not. Worked for Appy League, Princeton Rays, Bowling Green Hot Rods of the Midwest league. And triple A Pacific coast league, Albuquerque Isotopes

Corey Kluber would be a nice addition, but hell be in his age 33/34 season. No way the Reds should even bat an eye at that trade if it includes Senzel.

Senzel may turn out, may not. His vertigo is a bit concerning..Reds need to sh*t or get off the pot with him. He is MLB ready and has been for a 1 1/2.

I would trade him for Kluber. Wouldn't trade Trammel.

For example, Max Scherzer is 34, I'd deal for him in a heartbeat too.

You have to have a ACE to compete. Kluber is an ace....Senzel is an unknown.

My youngest son played college ball (made CWS his last year) and had several friends drafted, a couple of whom made the League.
I've always been a baseball addict, so wife/I have seats to Winston Salem Dash.

On top of that, the worst JUCO or D-III college player is world's better than the average guy.

If they put a middling rotation out there with this lineup they win 90 games. Add an ace and Castillo takes jump they are world series contenders
