OT: Florida to play two QBs

I think football fans know UF is down and that does not mean they are bad. UF is "down" when it loses more than 1 game and is not in the hunt for an SEC championship. A "down" UF still beat UGA. The only teams to manhandle them last year were Bama and Mizzou. UF's main problem was discipline and organization, not talent. It is not like they lost to Vandy. I think SEC fans who had UF's funeral last year will be surprised to learn it was premature. Anyone overstating their demise either wants to set Stoops up or does not understand football in the SEC.

Actually they DID lose at home to Vandy in 2013.

I don't think anyone expects Florida to roll over and die when they come in here but the reality is this team has some massive problems with their offense. They do have a very good defense, but it's essentially the same defense that we rolled up 30 points on last year down there and we are much stronger this year.

You don't take any game for granted in this league, but there are reasons to be optimistic this year based on the quality of our team and the matchup, and it's not unreasonable to believe Kentucky will be the line favorite going into this game.

If there's ever a year we've had the best chance to knock off Florida, this is it!
No excuses.

Not a good thing for 1st year coach at FL to Lose against KY. Last year's coach Almost lost to UK and he got fired.
Yes, but Muschamp's firing had nothing to do with the fact that he "almost" lost to UK. It had to do with the games he actually lost, not the games he almost lost.

We should be improved from the 2014 UK team, and there is a good chance that Florida should be worse than the 2014 Florida team even though Florida presumably has a better coach this year than last year. What concerns me is that Florida was still quite a bit ahead of us last year. The head to head matchup was only one game. Florida was very competitive against the three teams that destroyed us last year, winning two of them, and almost winning the other.

It always confuses me when people think Florida will inevitably be good because they are Florida, but that Mizzou won't be good. Florida is in for some rough days. Their defense will keep them in a lot of games, but they will likely have the worst offense in the SEC. McElwain is a good coach but he needs time to install his players before his system really takes off and he hasn't exactly been lighting it up on the recruiting trail. Florida won't stay down and McElwain may be the guy to lead them back, but he won't do it in year 1.

Two things...first I'm betting Grier is really the QB they will be playing primarily if not compketely when schedule picks up. Their board talked of him being ahead and Harris not being accurate. Grier fits the head coached system much better too. I'd bet the two QB race is as much about not wanting/giving Harris the chance to transfer if he was named second early in camp before school started.
Secondly, I very much like how we are recruiting compared to Florida right now. Very much in same ball park. Plays out well for us to be on part with them for years to come. Give us a good solid season and them a crappy one this year and it looks that much better.

and defense wins championships......UK better bring their A game or the 30 year streak will continue.

Florida's D is certainly not to be disrespected, but there's no reason for us to cower in fear either. I thought our offense was pretty effective against them; we just had breakdowns in execution at inopportune times.

I admit I don't follow Florida that closely, but I don't see anything to suggest their D is going to make a huge quantum leap forward. If anything our offense should be considerably better than year. The real unknown in my opinion is how our D matches up to their offense.

I'm so sick of Kentucky making awful QB's look like Tom Brady, before they go back to their sucking ways. Hutson Mason could have thrown for 1,000 yards if he wanted to, and his backup threw perfectly too. I don't care about anyone else; I'm just ready for UK football to take it to a different level. Nick Chubb IS the Georgia offense.

Different Vandy team. Again, UF being declared dead (just look at those who
Claim that) is wildly overstated.

Huge difference between cowering in fear and pretending this is a guaranteed win.

I guess UT was really bad last year, because UF was bad?

Florida was fairly talented last season, especially on defense. They were not a bad team, but it was clear they were an underachieving team. This year Florida is far less talented than last year's team, particularly the O-Line, WR is a problem and they will be breaking in a new QB. I'm not sure I could point to one area of strength on their offense.

All these Florida threads all summer, and yet Ky. plays South Carolina the week before. Is everyone just assuming a win against SC?

This needs to be the year to beat Florida; anyone who thinks Florida is going to be this mediocre for long is crazy. I expect them to contend for the East. Kentucky has them at home this year, with a completely new staff and personnel. There is no excuse for not being elite at Florida.

I don't think you're remembering the game right. It was tied 20-20 at the end of regulation, with 14 of those points coming on 3 big plays against true freshman DBs (Tabor twice, Dawson once). That was the main weakness for the Florida defense first half of the season, they made big mistakes in the secondary especially against UK, Bama, and Mizzou. The youngsters grew up pretty fast, and second half of the season they were very good. They return the entire 2-deep in the secondary, which is why they're considered arguably the top defensive backfield in the nation this year.

Losing Fowler on the DL will hurt, but losses on the rest of the front 7 aren't too much to speak of.
