OT: Florida to play two QBs

betcha South Carolina plays multiple QB's against UNC next Thurs as well, they are far from settled with Mitch Conner....or is it Conner Mitch

Gonna be some sweet revenge, almost 30 years in the making.

An article in the Huntsville Times this morning says Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss and Vandy have not settled on a starter yet. That must be a record for the SEC.

Martez Ivey will also most likely miss the game against us.. So a thin Oline and QB question marks never results in good things

McElwain could win with either one of those QB's. Like mentioned above, O-Line is the issue. If Florida had an O-Line they could win the East with that defense.

Reminiscent of Penn State last year. And Grier/Harris are both talents, but they aren't Hackenberg.

They will play both in their opener in an extension of the fall QB race battle IMO. After the game he will settle on one in order to be ready for their next opponents.

UGA is very likely to play to 2 qbs in the opener at least. Everything is being kept underwraps, practices are closed, some even to parents. Richt isn't giving any stats from closed scrimmage. All the stats he gave from yesterdays closed scrimmage was Chubb looked good and Michel led in rushing.

Spurrier frequently plays 2 QBs because he demands perfection from his QBs and has never been afraid to sub the position based on what he thinks is sub par performance.

Peace

maybe even a bigger question for Florida outside who their QB will be...whoever it is, who will he throw it too? pretty sure the UK staff will this year have a better plan than letting Robinson go for 200 yds receiving.

Like another poster said, we seem to make 3rd string qbs look like Manning so I'm not going to get too excited about this just yet. Hopefully our defense will be enough from here on out to stop that annoying habbit. It sure would be awesome to knock off Florida no matter what. After 30 years, you will take any kind of victory.

UK has had a habit of making 2nd/3rd string QBs look like All-Americans so I'm certainly not going to celebrate yet.
Haha...boy we sure have done that a ton over the years...Still seeing UL 3rd stringer hang 300 yards on us in my nightmares.

I expect Robinson to be their go to guy, he would be for most teams, but I read on their site one of the other guys has looked good and led in receptions at in their scrimmages. My guess is the one not guarded by Hargraves.

I really do believe this may be the worst Florida team of my lifetime. I wish Florida would stay down in the cellar forever, but I'm afraid they'll be back. We better enjoy it while it lasts.

And along those lines, who would the UF defense stick Hargraves on from UK's receiving corp? Who will be the priority to shut down for the night from their point of view? Baker? Johnson?

That's a popular opinion but if you lean on the run too much with little semblance of a passing game teams will load the box and make it very difficult for Mr. Chubb & company.

I agree, it was surprising we could run the. Ball as well as we did last year with no vertical passing game. We averaged about 175 passing yards a game, almost exclusively on quick slants and screens. I am hoping it's Ramsey, who has a big time arm,. Whoever it is will be a big upgrade in physical talent, but likely a downgrade in game management.

At UK history has a way of repeating itself. The Florida game will be a battle and it will take a perfect game for UK to win. UK s strength is offense and Florida may have the best defense in the SEC. Turnovers, and the kicking game will decide who wins IMHO.

It will not take a "perfect" game for us to beat Florida. It will take a pretty good one though.

I agree, UK hasn't had many "perfect" games, and the last one they had was in softball IIRC.

Not sure I remember correctly, but I don't think Georgia punted once last season against UK. To make it difficult for Chubb and company would be monumental change in the defense. I truly hope that's the case.

Not a fan of it, but I suspect it's just an additional tryout for both against an overmatched opponent. Wouldn't be surprised to hear one named by the UK game. There's no game I want to see the Cat's win more than that one, but depleted O-line, 2 QB's, new coach, home game, and all it's still going to be a very tough task.

frequently subbing 2 QB's is never a good sign.

I don't know if its the worst team or not, the one that lost to FCS Georgia Southern in 13 when GSU didn't attempt a pass was pretty bad, but this one could be real bad. A complete staff turnover, new schemes on both side of the ball, offensive side of the ball is down on talent, defense is learning something new, a first year qb with a suspect OL, are all the makings of a bad team. But the new coach has been a successful head coach, not in a P5 conference but one who has done well as a head coach. Urban stepped into a roster full of talent, because Zook could recruit, Muschamp could recruit defensive guys, it was almost like he didn't care if he signed any offensive guys or not, so the new coach isn't stepping into a roster with overwhelming talent on offense. But he has a scheme he believes in, he is an offensive guy and they will run his offensive scheme, unlike the OC's for Muschamp who had to run what he told them to run. I hope everyone gets their licks in on UF this year, other than UT, but I think they break their losing streak against them too.

I do think McElwain will get the team back up to being a consistent contender, but I think he faces a big challenge in that 1) Georgia is consistently strong 2) Tennessee is returning to its historical position and 3) Mizzou, Kentucky and to a lesser extent South Carolina aren't going to make it easy to rebuild. McElwain took 3 years to turn CSU around in an inferior conference. Looking at the types of players he is recruiting right now, I'd say it will at least take that long at Florida.

Its tough getting things turned around for sure. SOS has our number but overall I think he is losing interest. But he has a couple of goals he would like to get, 1 is to win the SEC at South Carolina, which may or may not happen, best chance may have slipped away on that one, the other is to win more SEC games than any other coach. He isn't too far away from that one, something like 15 games, not sure the exact number but less than 20. So he could get that one with 3 pretty good years, or 4 not so good years, he may hang around to get that one, unless things completely unravel at USC. When he leaves, I hope they don't decide to hang it up, I hope they don't go after Mark Dantonio and bring him home, he is an alumni of USC. If not him, wouldn't surprise me to see them go after Kirby Smart, unless he is convinced he is the next Bama coach.

Stupid take by the UK troll, Superior play 2 or more QBs when he doesn't have a good effective one. Didn't play 2 when Connor Shaw was the starter. Didn't play 2 last year with Thompson.

I think football fans know UF is down and that does not mean they are bad. UF is "down" when it loses more than 1 game and is not in the hunt for an SEC championship. A "down" UF still beat UGA. The only teams to manhandle them last year were Bama and Mizzou. UF's main problem was discipline and organization, not talent. It is not like they lost to Vandy. I think SEC fans who had UF's funeral last year will be surprised to learn it was premature. Anyone overstating their demise either wants to set Stoops up or does not understand football in the SEC.

there's no such thing as a perfect game by any team. I do remember one game a few years back where we did not commit any penalties, but there are always mistakes in games, blocking assignment errors, misreads, wrong pass routes run, missed field goals etc.

Kentucky needs to bring their A game no doubt, but IMO the CATS will be the favorite in this years match-up with Florida. If they execute up to their potential they should win.
