I've been a fan of the Bengals as long as I can remember, but they've lost me. After watching the video where Mixon punches out a girl, I just don't think that I can support his team. I know the team won't miss me individually, but I wonder how many fans the Bengals lost this week. This is brutal.

Steelers fan here,I too was surprised by the pick giving recent troubles. and I am in No Way condoning him hitting a woman, but based on the video she would have been the one charged with assault as she wailed on him first..But hopefully he has learned his lesson and grown up,he was what 18 when it happened?

As a Bengals fan, I'm not mad about the pick. Happened almost 4 years ago on his 18th birthday. The only reason people are up in arms about it is because the video just came out 4 months ago. Now in no way am I condoning this behavior, but I'm all about second chances and winning football games.

All reports since the incident have been positive from the coaching staff and teamates.

Now that you're no longer a Bengals fan are you going to research players on your new team to make sure they don't have any bad people on the team? Joe Mixon, as bad as what he did was, isn't the only athlete that has a troubled past. There's countless athletes all across sports that have done bad things that people don't make a fuss about.

As a Bengals fan, I'm not thrilled with the attention the pick has gotten, but I'm not going to stop supporting them because they drafted Mixon. I won't buy his jersey or anything like that, though. I can hate what Mixon did, but still root for the Bengals at the same time.

Anyone surprised by the bengals "taking a chance" on a player with legal or character issues, does not follow the bungles...and those decisions have mostly turned out great for the player and crappy for the team

Of course they do... grew up on Anderson and Archie, but I've been a Steelers follower for a good 20 years now. Paul Brown would be ashamed.

Yeah, for a while I was worried about him being the one having to go to the hospital.

What a wimp if she scared him that bad.

as a Bengals fan i love the pick
we got a top 15 player at 48

there is no excuse for what he did, there is also no excuse not to give a kid a second chance in life
from what i have read the girl has forgiven him (i am sure the settlement helped)
if she can forgive him why can't other people that had NO INVOLVEMENT in the incident

hopefully that was a life changing thing in his life

Getting shoved & then choked is enough to PO anyone, particularly at 18. And she did this after he started walking away. It wouldn't have looked so bad had she not fallen on the table edge. Net, I'm not holding it against him for the long run. More acts, he's got a problem.

I'm a fair weather Bengals fan. This changes zero.

You can't excuse what he did and I don't think anyone would or will. But man, folks are crucifying this kid for a bad mistake at 18 years old.
Those bashing the Bengals, just about every team in the NFL have guys with issues on their team. The Steelers just got a guy back that suspended for a year, etc. Browns had Manziel. Ravens had Ray Lewis. I think the reason this is getting a lot of attention is because they can see the video and it's appalling. For goodness sake, the Pats had Aaron Hernandez on their team for years.
This happened when he was 18. Not in any way excusable, but it's been 3 plus years.

I'm bashing the Bengals because it just looks like bad business to me, all ethics and morals aside. Mixon appears flaky. You don't build a franchise drafting that kind of talent IMHO. You just spin wheels for years trying to find the "value" you thought you drafted. Vontaze Burfict, Chris Henry, and Co. say, "Hello!"

You were OK with Reggie Nelson who was riding around with Aaron Hernandez shooting people in Gainesville, Pacific Man Jones, Vontez Burdick, and all the other Bengals thugs but this is where you draw the line? Hate to break it to you, but Cincinnati has been a trash organization with trash human beings on roster for years.

Agree with Keyser on this one. Mixon is nothing but filth but the Bengals are as bad or worse for drafting the POS. The acts not withstanding some of the blame for this situation should go to Bob stoops/OU for not kicking him off the team and out of the university. Also Roger Goddell should have dropped the hint that Mixon was not to be drafted or signed as a free agent.

Actually, there's another report since "the incident" which was not so positive. It involved a parking ticket, and it involved Mixon behaving like a total jackass. To his credit, he didn't break anyone's face on that occasion. He deserves kudos for his restraint.

When you can name some wholesome morally responsible NFL teams please do it?

Not condoning what he did, he should have walked away. Called the cops and pressed charges. Both parties where at fault here and it's a lesson learned for each of them. Was the girl charged?

Yeah, she should have been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, LOL.

Gonna take an unpopular Devil's advocate look at this, so strap in tight folks.

Does a 10 sec flub up mean the kid doesn't get work for the rest of his life, cause I sure as shit don't want to pay for him to sit around. Got enough of that going on as it is.

It was bad, real bad and I fully understand that. I also think second round was a bit high for him and that the NFL should institute a rule that says they will not allow anyone who commits a violent act like that to be draft eligible, but until they do something like that teams are going to take dudes with serious baggage.

There is a harsh reality in that there are 100+ people (front office, scouts, coaching staff, support staff, etc) in all franchises who's lively hood depends on success and absolutely getting draft picks right. Add the economics of the community in terms of businesses that work closely with the organization as wells as the shops, bars, restaurants, etc close by. A lot of people do well if the bengals do well, a lot of people would do even better if the Bengals did better.

It's very tough to have to look at things through a utilitarian lens, but the greatest good for the greatest number of people more often than not will win out. Especially in sports.

Football Pick Grade - A+
As previous poster said, guy was 18... saw video.. it pissed me off too. Every team but 4 took them off their football board. Top 15-20 talent gotten in round 2 at pick 48 I believe. It is interesting how this all will play out.. hope for the best.

They all draft stupid, that was my point.
Fair enough. I guess I just see different degrees of stupid in different actions. Beating a woman in public rates pretty highly on the "guess what I'm doing next" scale in my eyes.

And a world class athlete causing SERIOUS injury to someone half their size has no place in my world. I repeat, if she hurt him OR scared him what a wimp.
Are you a fan of an NFL team? If so, which one?

If the video had been released 3 years ago nobody would even be talking about this. He effed up badly. No doubt about it. It's been seveal years and there's been no issues that I've heard of. It looks like he learned his lesson. Let's all hope so.

Can't be too much of a wimp playing NFL football. But his fortitude isn't the point. She broke the law by assaulting him. She should have been charged. He should have walked away and exercised his rights to be protected. Again, not condoning what either of them did. But I'm not going to allow someone to beat on me without consequences, legal or other. If that makes me a wimp, then this grumpy old paratrooper must be a big f'n snatch with sand in it.

Not a fan of the money game, will watch Cobb and other UK players if it is convenient. Gave i[ MLB when the Reds became a farm club for the Yankees back in the day, topped by ARod saying he was "blessed" when he signed his $200,000,000 contract long ago.

However, I am really pulling for Toth, Boom, Harmon, etc to grab a good start in life, if nothing else. What they do with it is another thing, some end up like the serial armed robber Transfer U turned out.

No favorite team then? I understand. I know what the Mixon kid did was awful, but I don't think that precludes from ever having a life or being able to pursue one. He was 18 when it happened. Time will tell if he truly changed. Many, many pro athletes and college have done awful things. Not sure why what this kid did has created such vitriol.

Sorry, but anyone that couldn't stand up to the "beating" she was handing out is a wimp to me. If he had just held his elbows up the only thing that would have happened is she would have bruised her forearms.

doesn't matter if he's a wimp or not. She committed assault and he was acting in self defense.

I guess everyone is not up to your standards. I'm sure at 18 you never did anything bad or anything you regret. That ivory tower must get lonely.

Pretty lonely, thanks for the concern, lol.

How would you feel if the Bengals signed Ray Rice? Would you cheer for him as well?

Of course everyone knows about Pac Man Jones's legal issues. His problems have been widely publicized. I don't think any fan of the team likes those problems, but there is a huge difference in drafting a person that has punched out a girl and fractured her face in multiple places. I can't rationalize acceptance of that unconscionable behavior on the basis that other players in the NFL have had different legal problems. Every large organization is going to have some employees that have legal problems, but you have to draw the line somewhere. If you can rationalize breaking a girls face, I'm not sure what to tell you.
