The same candidates there are now will be the same in 3-4 years. It’s not like there is some savant coming through the ranks anytime soon.

Good point. It’s a point I made yesterday myself. But this is not at all the same kind of situation. Duke and unc both had HOF coaches ride off into the sunset. They had a succession plan in place and they had a plan to keep their recruits and move forward harmoniously.
Kentucky would be firing a HOF coach and starting over. It’s apples and oranges
This is the number one reason Cal will be back. Mitch had his guy he was very comfortable and confident in for years but now he's off the table.
This has been my thought for a while. I had been waivering in my confidence on him since the first Oscar year.
But this is the first season I've been of the mind that a risk on any up-and-comer or decently proven coach at a power school is worth it.

Billy, Brad Stevens, Mark Few, Scott Drew. I’d like Jay Wright too but I can’t see him leaving The Main Line. None of these guys are all about themselves and, they’d having winning championships at UK AS their 1-100
top priority winning for UK.

There are 0 pros to this scenario. There’s only 1 person on the planet that can be the head coach next year for me to not watch a single game and that’s Calipari. I’ll be excited about the potential with literally anyone else. Some more so than others, but I will not watch another game until his arrogant ass is gone.

Drew was his guy but UL made a huge play for him which got him a new contract with a large buyout. Paying Cal, Drew and Drew's buyout is probably more than we can afford.
Barney also wouldn't know basketball enough to understand McCasland and Tang helped build Drew's roster that won. This crap I'm watching today is Gillespie like in terms of no offensive flow--spread iso "do 'em" nonsense and then defensively they are lost. But hey--he's a Drew so that matters to Barney.
I’ve said this . Ending up with 4th or 5th choice, and having a lame roster for a couple of years we’re back to everyone being in a bad way fast enough. Stomach one more year with a good roster, and you can spend quite a while putting out feelers or whatever you do to get the right guy in here. Maybe even a renegotiated deal or something

The problem with your thinking is that you're making a case that Cal can still do the job. He can't. Not anymore.
That's why he's toast. I also think it's narrow to believe that only 4 or 5 guys can do the job. No one really knows that. Whatever the case may be, Cal is certainly no longer one of them.
I already know next years team will crumble before even watching it. Cal has been scared in every single postseason since 2020. The players play the exact same way. Old or not, the pressure will crumble them. Every loss will be the worst. Calipari will be an absolute nutcase on the sideline. We may switch lineups 15 times a half.
Again I'll say it. If Cal is back then I'm done. I know no one else on this board or the UK administration cares. I will keep my money in my pocket not that it was a lot to begin with but it is a lot to me. Cal puts anything and everything above and in front of the UK basketball program. As long as he is the coach I will not attend any more games, buy any UK merch, or watch UK basketball on TV. I'm done. What I have seen is not UK basketball and I will forever loathe Cal for what he has done to it.

That is true, cal has proven he’s no longer the coach for the job. He supposedly handle the other aspects perfectly and everyone puts more emphasis on that than actually winning games. I promise a coach could never travel the state, talk to anyone, or do commercials or whatever as long as they met UK winning standards. Everyone would be thrilled and would love them.
I was told this afternoon that Cal has reached out to his NBA guys to get funding from them to go towards NIL and to get some transfer portal guys for next season.

If you add older guys and get a couple back from this team is could be ok. I think what people are talking about is say Cal gets fired, all the recruits leave, and all of our current players leave. I think maybe there’s a chance that at least next year‘s roster would be bad with a Ho-hum coach that’s not a top 3 choice …., so maybe the thinking is you get some conditions from cal , staff changes for defense and clear objectives set, sit and work on the new guy for a while and have a plan in place . Tons gets done thru back channels in hiring .
