****** OFFICIAL NCAAT Troy Vs Kentucky Game Thread *****

Got to bludgeon those guys to death in the first 5 minutes of the second half, otherwise they're going to have a lot of confidence.
falling-down.gif

need to be acting like this after the 5min mark

We were about 12 point favorites and we are up 8 at half. That's slightly ahead of schedule.

With a little more composure on shots from 6 feet and in, we'd easily be up by 12. Butler missed two and Amari missed a handful.

Cut the turnovers down and get a few offensive rebounds. Troy is +3 in offensive rebounds+opponent turnovers. Even out/win the possession game in the second, and we should dominate.

exactly

Hard argument o say who has played the worst .. Amari , Butler or Brea . but Butler is trying to play injured . Just frustrating as a whole . Perry gave us nothing . Garrison very little other 2 horrible 3 attempts . I'm just worried the way they sling threes , and our lack of urgency guarding them , they make 3-4 in a row and bang .. its tied with 4 to go .
Yes the lack of urgency scares the crap out of me.

Zero offensive rebounds tells me a lot.

That doesn’t sound like they want this bad enough.

tell this to the “play the best players” crowd. there’s only one reason he can’t be strong with the ball, and only one reason he doesn’t play much. he’s frickin injured.
Then he shouldn’t be playing.

But he made a lot of turnovers before he was hurt.

Amari you gotta jump and put that back in instead of watching it
Amari's hoops IQ goes high-low-high-low-high-low and it never evens out . Maddening .. I like the young man , but he drives you crazy .. but less than Brea offering very little effort on the defensive end . Simply doesnt fight . But he's good to work hard on O .

I’d love to come out of halftime and go on about a 16-4 run. Play smart, run our stuff, and rebound. Don’t make dumb mistakes and play solid defense and we win this. Survive and advance guys! One half until the monkey off our back and Popes is off. Win the game! We are the better team. Go Cats all day everyday.
Yep, we were pressing especially early on on the game. You could tell our guys were sped up a little and that’s ok. Most of our players have not played in but one or two tourney games, Butler and Almonor being obvious exceptions. The big thing was not letting Troy go nuts on the offensive glass and put chunks of points on the board. That effort gave our guys an opportunity to work into some semblance of a flow and put a small gap in the score. I expect a much sharper second half. If I’m Pope I’m not going “white hot” in the locker room. I’m reminding the guys what they are capable of, easing anxieties and pressing the need to keep working hard on the defensive glass. The shots will fall eventually. Cats by 18.

If we are playing ANY other team right now, we are down at halftime. We have all looked forward to this tournament but you couldn’t tell it by the way we looked. They have got to want it more than what I’m seeing, let them hang around and we will lose again.

If Butler is still injured he doesn’t need to play
You can’t put someone out there playing that bad
Can’t make layup floater jumpers - bad passes struggling dribbling
If he’s hurt set him if he’s not make sure he’s helping team
We went in that 8-0 run with out him

Only 6 FTs, 0 offensive rebounds, tied with Troy on rebounds at 19. Zero points by Butler and only 3 by Amari. Fortunate to be up by 8 points.

0 offensive rebounds in a half, that’s almost impossible to accomplish but they did
Amari had one of the easier offensive put backs you could ask for but decided he was gonna be the cool guy and watch it roll off with his hands down. It’s the ****ing tournament my guy, enough of the dicking around.

What happened to the pregame stuff from Pope about playing simple and hard. We’re doing the opposite

And we're bigger than them. Pope has got to adjust his philosophy on rebounding.
Troy is a lot like A&M. They are both undersized. Despite that, both are great at getting offensive rebounds.

We did a fantastic job on the defensive glass. For the season, Troy gets a little over 38% of their misses. They got an offensive rebound on 13.6% of their chances in the first.

The offensive glass is definitely an area we haven't exploited. Troy is terrible on the defensive glass. While we are below average, getting 0 is far below what we should expect. It's hard to not get 1 or 2 just from a lucky bounce.

Then he shouldn’t be playing.

But he made a lot of turnovers before he was hurt.
no, he probably shouldn’t. but try to keep him off with his career ending and perry being in over his head.

it’s actually a tough choice, perry or injured butler. and butler wants to go. you make the call. what’s it gonna be?

It literally drives me to INSANITY
It’s unbelievable yet the Head Coach says nothing
Horn should blow and meet him halfway to bench
Unacceptable effort sort of like 5 seconds left on shot clock your man pops to corner and you give zero effort to get out on him
It’s crazy stuff

Yes, there’s a reason Pope took him out early and often. He’s hurting
I lOVE LOVE LOVE Lamont Butler , thought he was headed towards All American levels til the injury , but if my man cant go , and cant be effective , set him .. I hope he pulls out of it , he makes one three maybe the confidence goes up , and he gets rolling .

Only reason we have the lead at half against TROY - the champions of the mighty Sun Belt - is a 30 second burst of 2 threes and a miracle full court Amari dunk.
Other than that 30 seconds we played, scared, tense and nervous. Very haphazard and not at all prepared. Pope has got to throw the stupid analytics out the window on these constant lineup switches. Players going in and out so much it’s hard for the guys on the floor to even know who they’re playing with. Just nonsense subbing this many players this often. Compete nonsense
