D-League

Good morning folks.

What a dazzling sunrise in the east. Another great day to be alive.

Talked to my son last night. He and another guy are hauling a couple tons of live catfish in a special USFW truck from central Texas to a Navajo reservation in western New Mexico. Apparently is part of fulfilling a 19th Century treaty. The Navajo apparently stock
Lakes with them. My son enjoys the road trips.

Heading to the subway station. Have a great day.

Good morning from Nolin Lake near Anneta, KY. Currently 51°F and clear.

Great trip. Clean up and pack here in a few. Flight departs at 5:30 pm. Leave here around 11 am for drive down to Nashville.

@cordmaker : We passed Central City on WK Parkway en-route to LBL. I may stop by another trip.

Wishing y'all a great day.

Good evening D, we got our new t-shirt in today, really cool! I don't know how to post pictures but if you type in Kentucky Wildcats for autism you can see Coach Pope holding one, puzzle pieces is a symbol of autism,, it's got a heart with half of it in puzzle pieces and half diamonds, blue and white basketball with the words, accept, understand and love on it! BBUK, WC,Bert can one of you grab a picture of it for me?

Good morning from ATX. Thunderstorms moving through as I type.

Plane landed at 8:18 pm last night. I returned home by 9:35 pm.

Happy Hump Day, y'all.

Sir, I didn't see this until now. On the train. If I don't see it posted, I will when I can get stationary. I haven't tried opening this site on my work computer but I will

Hope you all have a blessed day....

Morning D-Leaguers!

61° this morning with moderate rain and winds. Rain was not supposed to happen until this evening, and I have a fishing trip planned. Rain is supposed to stop around 7am so, I will go anyway.

Reds...(sigh).................. Perry (sigh) I think if he stayed and put in the effort, he could be an asset come next year.

Mike, Mike, Mike... Yeah, we know.

Hey, you folks be safe out there and God Bless.

Good morning folks.

Sorry to see Travis Perry go. I thought Pope gave him some good opportunities last year when Butler got hurt, and was patent even though Perry couldn't have guarded me the day after my hip replacement. I really saw him as a major contributor his senior year. But I certainly don't blame Pope recruiting over him. Kentucky needed a roster more like an SEC roster -- Alabama, Auburn, Florida and Tennessee and probably Arkansas and a couple others, were more athletic and the first four had more talent. Pope changed that over the past few weeks.

Grinding away at work. Hope you all have a good day.

Back at the house watching the Reds. Down 2-1 at this time bottom of the 2nd.

Fishing was windy this morning with little action.

3 strikes, 2 hits, 2 errors. Large Mouth Bass 2 - Warrior-Cat 0. First hit/hook fought good and spit out the lure before getting it in. The second was a good one. Got it close to the shore when it dove down to continue to fight. Pulling through the grass my line (30lb braid) snapped, and it got away. The braid was a bit old so not sure what the actual strength of it was at this point. Still, it was a lunker and those kinds just make you sick when you miss them.

Good morning folks.

Warming up in the east. Hit 80 for the first time this year yesterday.

I’m not a hockey guy but DC is becoming a hockey town and I’m absorbing some of the excitement from work friends. My office is one block from the arena and I get on the subway where the fans are arriving. It was a mob scene before last night’s playoff game, which the Capitals won over the Canadiens. And of course the games when Ovechkin was catching and passing Gretzky for career goals were nuts too.

Heading in for my last work day downtown this week. Have a great day.

Morning D-Leaguers!

Heavy rain last night flooded my shop. Have to figure out a way to redirect the flow. French Drain? Maybe, but there is a spring underground in the easement area and possibly under the shop. Could be swelling up from underneath. I will go to the shop the next time it rains hard to see where the water is actually coming in. Rain continuing now with more tomorrow and Saturday. Positive is it should fill up my fishing holes which are down. Did not flood for the first 8 or so years here (now in 11th year), the flooding started early last year, and it seems as if the underground stream may have shifted somewhat from what me and a neighbor can tell.

Reds pulled the game out yesterday but are still under .500. Just when it seems they were surging, they fall back to the old standard of recent years.

Well folks, enjoy the day if you can and thank God for all he has done for you and God Bless.

This is just my opinion but, hockey players are the best athletes of all sports!

I don't know enough to have an opinion about athleticism, Cord, but I'd say they are the toughest, even more than NFL players. It takes a certain mindset to go into a sport where you are pretty much guaranteed to not get out of your teens with your teeth intact.

I'd feel sorry for you, but the Cards are also sucking.

Seems strange. Usually an average or above team.
Historically, the Cards can have an argument that only the Yankees top them. There used to be a saying, "Break up the Yankees!". Well, they actually did break up the Cardinals. Branch Rickey when with the Cards was the first to develop a farm system owned by the team. The Cards were beginning to dominate and commissioner Landis said it was bad for baseball and forced the Cards to release many minor league players, giving other teams a chance to sign them and develop their own farm system. The current ownership signed several players to bloated contracts for players who haven't produced and now they are watching the budget. A new GM is taking over next year and fans are hoping for positive change.

Yeah, but the Cards have had more recent success than the Reds. The last time the Reds won the World Series (Oct 90) I was sitting in the middle of the Saudi Desert preparing for the Gulf War. I got the news they had won through the Stars and Stripes and got a weeks' worth of the paper on one day.

Right now it's a race to the bottom with my Cardinals!!!

Reminds me of a story. I was stationed in Turkey. It was when Issel was at UK. They were #1. KY State won their division and KY Wesleyan was atop theiir division. I was running my mouth about how everyone in KY could play basketball to my buddies. I was only 5'9 and 170 pounds. My buddies were both about 6'3 and they challenged me to a one on one game. I was really only very average at basketball, but that was my day. I beat the first guy badly. The second guy had played fullback at U of Missouri, so he was an athlete. I couldn't miss. I'd go around him or hit a long shot under pressure and made it hard for him to dribble on defense. I beat him 24-2. They left in awe. Thankfully they never wanted to play again.

This is in re to Warriors post.

My being a fan of the Cardinals goes all the way back to Stan the Man's days. We had a guy from here in Central City that played very briefly for the Cardinals, his name was Corky Withrow, he was one heck of an athlete. I believe Rupp my have recruited him!
I remember Corky. I got to see Stan (The Donora Greyhound was his original nickname) play live at the old Sportsmans Park.

Good morning folks. Happy Friday.

Bengals take a big risk in the first round with DE Shemar Stewart of TA&M, who I read posted astonishing speed and strength numbers in the draft combine, and yet against college competition only managed three full sacks in three years. That seems like an impossibly low production for a pass rusher. You’d think a QB would trip and fall under you more often than once a year. I read the guy’s interviews and he’s full of bluster and BS, saying things like his sack numbers don’t matter. If numbers didn’t matter I’d have played in the NBA…I guess we’ll find out in the fall.

Warrior, your story reminded me of my fate in 1990…I was in Baghdad as a journalist with no access to any news —Saddam had jammed TV signals and banned news of all sorts. We had one way to get reports back to the U.S., a satellite fax in what remained of the U.S. embassy operation.

There was still a tiny staff there, and one day I bumped into a Marine guard and asked him if he had heard any news on the World Series. “All I heard was it was a 4-game sweep,” he said. Knowing the As were a heavy favorite I went around a couple days figuring the Reds had gotten swept, until I was talking to a CNN tech and he set me straight.

So, I haven’t actually SEEN the Reds win a World Series in nearly 50 years, since 1976…But - they still are setting on that record: 9 Straight Series Game Wins dating back to the Carlton Fisk game.

Have a good day folks.

In 1976 I was at Ft. Sill (Aug-Nov) in OSUT (One Station Unit Training) which was Basic and AIT (Advanced Individual Training) combined so, I missed that one as well. 75 was the last World Series the Reds won that I saw. So, I am hungry.

Haha. Warrior your luck is worse than mine. I spent the summer and early fall of 1976 in Alaska on the pipeline. But I made sure I was back for the Series.

Another thing. There used to be a "thing" called The Cardinal Way". It was basically stressing fundamentals. George Kissell was a roving minor league coach. He made sure all the minor league players were taught to be fundamentally sound and by the time they got to the majors, they were sound in fundamentals. George died in 2008. The cards stayed sound as long as they had players and coaches who had ties to Kissell. The further they got away from Kissell, the worse they got. I suppose the saber metrics played into it somewhat, but the Cards are very unsound in fundamentals these days.

Hello all,

Been a day, been a day. Worked from home first thing. Planned to work three or so hours then take off the rest of the day, even had that worked out with my leadership. Ended up going until about 2:40 or so as My Darling and I planned to go out to eat with our neighbors two houses down. We did that and I had fun and enjoyment talking to him while My Darling talked to his wife. he is I think 76 and his wife is I think 80. We got to the restaurant (Met them there.) (The turkey Sir beat me paying while his wife laughed at me.) 😍 (Took my work phone with me so I could keep up with the actions and ensure they were completed.)

I haven't had a more enjoyable time just talking in a long while. He is retired military (Army). What I enjoy most about him is he can talk and talk but realizes he is talking a lot (Making good sense.) BUT, he allows you to talk too. We left the restaurant only because my daughter called reminding us to pick up the BB today. (We left about 5:15.) I am thankful....

I hope your day(s) were as enjoyable...
