Now that the Super Bowl is over, what are the chances Coen gets the Rams OC job?

The fact Coen turned down an NFL job already should calm everyone's nerves. He turned down the Saints and I'm confident he'll be here at least one more year.
Many are missing this point(turning down the Saints) I do believe.

The key to the Rams deal is will Coen be the shot caller? Seems unlikely, would he be OK with that?
Seems this must be as big a factor as any, perhaps the biggest. Someone else points out he might not be equally interested in college and pro coaching in the long run.

If we really think that he's going to say "I'll wait around 7 years to see what happens with Stoops" we would be foolish. Nobody is thinking that way anymore.
I think that might depend on how much you are getting paid to wait, where, and for how long. If the Rams offered me $700k to serve as McVey's spotter and sounding board, and I was making $1.1m running my own show and not living in LA, I'd be standing pat.

I think the reason he would choose to go to LA, if offered, is that he knows the people and the environment he's getting into. Go to the Saints and you really don't know what that's going to look like and maybe makes him think to stay where he is and knows what he's into here. Wait it out a little longer til you find a place that will hire you where you know somebody. Greg Olsen went to be OC for the Raiders 4 years ago and that hasn't led to a head position...it's led to him trying to get back to be OC at LA. That and we all know where the Rams OC position leads, regardless of calling plays or not.

He won’t be leaving to be an offensive coordinator in the nfl. He would leave because it is a job that is a GIANT stepping stone to his destination job as head coach in the NFL. Whether or not he is actually the play caller or not . Like someone else said, it hasn’t hindered the advancement of other Rams offensive coordinators.

I mean, Stoops just hired Coen 13 months ago when no one else was looking to do so. He was a nobody making nothing. Now look at the press & hype he gets. Therefore I feel great that if Stoops had to, he can hire another great one.

And great ones will come begging, 1 yr at UK made Coen a household name among smart football folks. Lots of NFL teams run the McVey/Shanahan scheme. no doubt several assistant WR or QB coaches up there saw the exposure and success Coen had & will be burning up phone lines getting their resumes in front of Stoops.

While maybe it sucks. I'd rather have great coaches we are worried will leave rather than ones who suck & stay forever who we all beg to get fired!!

That's his destination job? He's said so?

I’d much rather not have to recruit and get an actual offseason in the NFL if it were me personally. Sure hope he sticks around but given the choice between a college job or back to the team you spent time with that also just won a super bowl would be hard to pass up. Stafford, Kupp, Woods, ODB, Akers, and Higbee would also have some impact on my decision. I was going to use Joe Brady as an example as to why Coen should consider staying, but the pieces Brady had in Carolina vs what Coen could have in LA are a night and day contrast. Only draw back if true as some posters have stated would be not being able to call his own plays but he’d likely be on a fast track to a head coaching gig in the league as most of McVays OCs seem to be destined for NFL head coaching jobs these days. Definitely a tough decision for Coen if the job truly has or will be offered to him. Hope you stay Coach

Don't know if I'd use Brady as an example. Hired 2-3 years ago as a QB coach, he's now changed teams, is still a QB coach and nowhere near being an OC or NFL HC.

That's a great point. When coen leaves (now or later) there will be unprecedented interest in the job.

Still hope we retain Woodward but we'll have some incredible candidates to choose from

MCVey had always been the shot caller and his coordinators and position coaches seem to move up fairly easy. Even Coen moved up with a title like assistant QB coach. I hope he stays, but not being the primary play caller has not slowed down anyone with the Rams.

Just being a former Rams assistant is a huge recruiting advantage we didn't have. I've already seen footage of players indicating they would play in an "NFL" offense being the primary reason they came here.
I understand that, but Coen is not the only coach out there with NFL experience and the understanding of an NFL offense. He isn't the only coach that is willing to leave an NFL staff and come to college for a position. We just hired an offensive line coach who did and last year Coen was an unknown we took a chance on. Coen is not rare, I am not sure why people think we cannot move on from or for that matter didn't see this coming at some point sooner rather than later. Again, I hope we keep him because I like his energy and it keeps continuity going but Stoops will do his homework and find a good replacement if we have too. You have to be ready for this and expect this at the college level. Assistants move, a lot and coordinators look to promote. Big Dog is a rarity that we have been blessed with, even White to an extent, but just isn't the norm. For me, its an actual sign of progression in our program so while I don't like to see constant turnover it is also exciting because it keeps things fresh. Hopefully we keep him, but if not all I am saying is we can keep flourishing just like we did when stoops took a chance on Coen
