Not sure what to think. Are we overrated or

Tough road environment. Their first as a team. Just learned what it’s like to walk into someone else’s house wearing the UK uniform.

Well what did you expect after Calipari left? If anything the last Cal years should have shown having NBA talent doesn't mean a whole lot.
I expected this. UK doesn't have an NBA caliber go-to guy. We are what I thought we were. A very good.... But not great .... Team. Road games are tough.

The problem is that we’ve been exposed. And this wasn’t the first game in which our major weaknesses have been exposed. So that you understand, I’ll spell it out for you:

1. Our bigs are woeful.

2. Our bench is thin. Brea is the only good bench player, and he ought to start.

3. We don’t have a reliable backup point guard. Krissa is a plus/minus nightmare.

4. We are a poor defensive team that gives up a ton of open looks and layups.

5. We do not have a go to scorer.
Agree with all of that.

No Clemson was allowed to play as physical as they want and when we did it was a foul difference of the game, for a blue blood we always get the shitty end of whistles

Probably somewhere in the middle. They are a little overrated but not a bad team by any measure. A top 20 team that will take some losses along the way
This is the right answer. Kenpom has them at 11 after tonight. That feels right.

I’m a Vikings fan. UK feels a lot like the Vikings.

Transition year, good coaching, experienced players, better than everyone thought, never thought of as truly dominant or elite, but due to the randomness of sports good enough to have a chance.

23-11, 2nd round exit. Even after the Duke game, we all knew it was coming. If UK was playing in the Big East, they win 25+ games.

Not in the SEC.

It's no knock on Pope either. He's maximizing the talent on this team.

Is this a fluke?
We're 1-1 against good teams, and that feels about right. If we can win the games against the non-tourney SEC teams and split the rest that should get us around 11-7 in conference, which last year was the 6th best record. Win one or two more and you're in contention for a double bye, which would be pretty good for a first year coach in the best conference in CBB.

I’m still sticking with the 22-9 or 21-10 final record. The SEC is just to damn loaded this year. Thats why it’s important that Kentucky beat Louisville and OSU

If I say we’re overrated I’ll get called a troll but I don’t care. We are overrated. We struggle to run fluid offense against Any kind of team that has high major players. Not the cupcakes. Maybe that will change as we get more used to it
We struggle against high-caliber, quick and aggressive teams.

If Pope had last years roster, the results would have been much better.

We looked weak & slow. Looked very tired for some reason.

We're better than we played tonight. No offensive rhytem. Offense looked unorganized & like we did not know what we wanted to do.

I honestly think it was just one of those nights you can't put your finger on. We were in a funky & never came out.

Definitely overrated.

Solid, top-20 team, better than I expected honestly.

But not close to a top-5 team. The high end talent just isn't there.

We aren't a top 5 team, but I still think we are a top 20 team that hasn't reached its potential. I think we can be better than we looked tonight with some adjustments, and I don't believe Pope has everything offensively implemented yet either. Given the time Pope had to put together a team though, I'm still very pleased. We lost by only 4 to a previous elite 8 squad in our first true road game. I have plenty of hope that we can do great things this season.

I wouldn’t say fluke. We know this team will die by the three. But there are some glaring issues also. My biggest concern is how bad Jaxon Robinson is in big games. Oweh looked tired tonight. He didn’t have his legs and was leaving shots short but played hard so not too worried.
Carr wasn’t horrible of defense but his offense was miserable. Brea needs some handles. Hes not gonna be open for the rest of the season so he’s gonna have to learn to create some space off the bounce or just pull eye balls. Defensively I think we were pretty good minus the boards. We reverted tonight on the glass.

Like Pope's post game. Explaining what happened, took us out of our game, what he did that did not help (reflecting). He liked the fight, the 2nd half we outrebounded them and such even with foul restrictions.

If by overrated you mean worthy of a 4 ranking? Then yes. I mean the only reason we were 4th ranked is because teams above us played better competition and some happened to lose while we took care of business against scrubs plus Duke.

Most computer systems have us in the 10-15 range. Based on how we did through 8 games now, that's not an overrate at all. We earned that.

Having said that, last night wasn't a fluke either. Good teams lose on the road to other good teams all the time. The line was close. It was always going to be a back and forth game.

Given the SEC this season I think two teams are going to happen that are at complete odds with one another
1) We'll lose a ton of SEC games this season particularly on the road.
2) When it's all said and done, we probably will still be a top 25/top15 team (perhaps even better).

We'll be a good team with a won-loss record that I'm sure people will be disappointed in. But good nevertheless.

This is really extreme take. Almost no team has a backup point guard. It is hard enough to have one. Our bigs might have limitations but they are better than our bigs last year. Agree that Brea needs a hell of a lot more playing time and/or shots. The go to scorer thing has always been overrated in my opinion. I can accept our toughness is lacking but your statements are so binary as to be ridiculous.

We aren’t number four in the country.

Our ranking was inflated by the Duke win.

But Clemson has a good squad.

We shouldn’t be down on this team.

This season is going to be a roller coaster ride. Buckle up and enjoy the ride.

Is this a fluke?
Unfortunately, this is what will happen most games when our three's aren't falling, or shooting lights out. We rely so much on the outside shot that it will be very difficult to overcome when they aren't falling and/or the other team is draining them, too.

Are we overrated? Maybe by a few spots. Are we overrated according to 40-0 ridiculous prognosticators with absolutely zero root in reality? Absolutely, by a mile. Are we still a capable of winning a national championship? That remains to be determined but I think there are a few reasons why I can say I think so, despite the effort last night. The more time I’ve had to digest the game, I think we have some major questions answered that give me a boost of confidence that this team is as good as I thought they were.
