If he is Cal’s replacement. I know he is at Baylor and not a blue blood but they have roughly the same record we do this season and he’s only won the B12 regular season like once since he’s been there.

I know he had one really good team but that was the same season that many say didn’t count.

Hopefully other options open up.

Can I ask who does impress you?

So who exactly do you want? There's no such thing as a sure thing replacement for Cal. Drew has won a title, it's as simple as that. There are very few coaches with a better resume than him. It's not like you're getting someone like Bill Self who has decades of experience at a blue blood with multiple titles. Any coach coming in to replace Cal will either be a gamble on a young coach at a smaller school or a more established coach that "only has a single title."

No matter the coach, the fans will have to be patient. It will most likely not be an overnight success like Cal's 2010-2015 run.

Drew would be a ho-hum hire kind of like Mark Few. Been at their respective programs forever, had some success but probably not the right fit for a place like UK
So who wouldn't be a ho-hum hire for you without saying the names Donovan, Stevens, Wright, or Hurley?

UK job elevates coaches

Pitino was better here than Providence
Tubby was better here than Georgia

Etc
It’s not the ‘90s anymore. NIL has completely changed the landscape. There’s an argument to be made someone like Oats would get the same type of player here as he does at Bama. Recruits don’t care about program tradition or titles a program won in the ‘50s. They care about the coach they’re playing for and their NIL money. UK has a pretty bad NIL system right now.

Meh...Drew is in his 22nd season...has a shitload of double digit loss seasons, 15 of them to be precise and headed for his 16th.

One title in 2021 which is his only Final Four, to go with a .648 winning pct

IMHO UK can do better.
Does the fact that Baylor was probably in the worst position of any power conference team when he got there factor into that at all? I don’t think people realize the hole he dug that program out of.

Dude had 7 scholarships and a murder trial to work with 😐. I get it if someone doesn't like his style of play or something but to downplay his accomplishments at Baylor is asinine.

Also, to further touch on your point, it wasn't just the worst situation of any Power 5 team when he got there, it was worse than just about any situation in CBB history. The only other coach in major sports I can think of that turned a program around like this is Bill Snyder at Kansas State football.

I feel like people don't realize how messed up Baylor basketball was before Scott Drew.
Which is in itself a testament to what he has accomplished at that program.

The only argument that makes sense against Drew is if you think all the success pre NIL/Portal era isn’t applicable now and you fear he’s teetering as another coach who this new era just doesn’t compliment his methods.

Oats and Lloyd are my preferences (from the realistic options) but I don’t think they get a look from Mitch. I’d still be happy w Drew though

Except for the pesky little fact that he's been circling the bowl since he won a title and got paid...

Hiring a coach who's averaging close to 10 losses a year for the last three years, so he can go to Sunday School with Brainfart - Pass. I'd rather hire a young up and coming who's doing more with less.

If we’re talking impressive coaches, Oats, Barnes, Sampson, Otzelberger, Smart, Drew, & Pearl are impressive for what they’re doing at the programs they’re at. I would say Hurley is the most but then again UConn is one of the best programs of the last 30 years. I think he’s probably the best coach out there.

Lol it’s been two years since his title, one of which he was tied for first in the Big 12 and got a 1 seed. I wouldn’t call that circling the bowl.

If you’re looking for a coach who NEVER has a down year you’re not going to find one.

Circling the bowl? Dude went 27 and 7 the year after. Had ten losses last year and is a top 10 team (just lost to the number 2 team in OT) this year. Idk if Drew would be right for UK, but to downplay him is ridiculous.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion….it’s a fun topic to debate. But don’t forget Alabama football just hired a guy who only made the title game once and lost. And Bama football has been the most dominant college program of any sport of the last 20 years.

He can coach circles around this clown we have as a coach.

Lloyd would be my first choice
Need more evidence that he was as good at Gonzaga as everyone claims. Lost to Princeton last year in the opening round of the tournament. Princeton was skilled — watched them against Creighton in Louisville — but Arizona had a size/athleticism advantage at every position and seemed to panic at the end of the game. A script that has played out with our current coach multiple times over the past decade.
