Early SEC Football Predictions for 2025

For the second year in a row, a team from the SEC didn't play for or win college football's national championship. While the 2024 season was a year for the SEC to reload, the '25 outlook looks promising for the conference to return to the top of college football. Texas and Georgia are back as national title contenders in the way-too-early power rankings, with LSU, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, Florida, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M all checking in as likely playoff candidates.

On paper, the (very) early strength of the conference is its depth. In addition to having national championship contenders in Georgia and Texas, along with several playoff-caliber teams, Auburn and Oklahoma are likely to improve in '25, with Missouri poised to push for another season of double-digit victories if its transfer class hits. Vanderbilt and Arkansas will be tough outs in conference play, while both Kentucky and Mississippi State should challenge for bowl eligibility.

Yeah, even the two UK teams that ended up with 10 wins would struggle to get to 7-5 with the 24 and 25 schedules. Most of the success we've had during the Stoops era has largely been a byproduct of getting SEC-East wins over Vanderbilt, South Carolina and Missouri teams that just weren't very good at the time, along with Florida and Tennessee being down. Now the schedule has become tougher while all of the above mentioned programs have greatly elevated their game while we've regressed in many ways. For us to have any success going forward we are either going to have to elevate our game to heights not previously seen during the Stoops era, or else we're going to need a bunch of currently mid-tier SEC teams to slide backwards to mediocre. And even then, we're going to need a favorable schedule where we don't have to play a whole slew of upper echelon teams in a given season. This conference was tough even before expansion. It is now a real MFer!

I think we had one of worst schedules in the conference and will apparently it again. That's just not a good scenario for a school like us.
Sporting News has their way too early Top 25 rankings for next year. We have the following on our schedule:

1. Texas
3. Georgia
11. Florida
12. Tennessee
14. South Carolina
17. Ole Miss
23. Louisville

If I'm being completely honest, I'd much rather have this schedule and go 3-9/4-8 than have an easier schedule and go 6-6. 6-6 would sit really well with Mitch I'm afraid and he would be complacent. If we finish 3-9/4-8, I think Mitch has no choice but to make a move.

The right coach could get this team to 6-6, most know we don’t have the e right staff

I think the guys name is Howard unfortunately that ship has sailed!! Don’t ever see us getting that type coach again. None of the big coaches have ever been in line to come here. Maybe we will offer more money now. I heard Sean Payton was wanting to come here at one time. Guys like him with any success will bail on us!!

I don't understand the problem with having a coach having success that leaves after 3 years. I would prefer that than have a 14 year HC that's been in the twilight of his career the past three. Just don't understand the fear.

I don't guess I look at this the same way you do. Stoops has done something most coaches at UK have not done. I suspect that fans who think changing football coaches at UK will bring about a significant upgrade in the program will be sorely disappointed and try to blame the whoever the AD is. The truth is it's doubtful UK will rise much beyond what we have seen, and many coaches will see the program fall. Stoops may need to be let go at some point, but expecting UK to perform well against a brutal schedule is never going to the fault of the coach at UK. If this team gets to 6 - 6 against this schedule, Stoops has done seriously good job. UK need schedules it can consistently have winning records against. That's the only way over time it can change its perception among fans and potential recruits. Struggling against 7 teams in the top 25 is never going to be anything aside from make us bottom feeders like we have always been since before Stoops took over. Hitting the jack pot on hiring a new coach every so often at UK has never worked and odds of finding the miracle worker is rare for any school, much less us. We haven't even discussed what NIL potentially does to the program.

No guarantee any coach will have a great 3 years. Our recruiting is in top twenty but still like 10th in the SEC. Who are the great coaches that are knocking down our doors. The only one we missed on was Howard. I thought we did great with Curry boy were we all wrong there!!
