No Surprise. Jamal Murray Selected for Canada's FIBA Team

So help me out here
...are certain people insinuating Murray may not come to UK if ultimatem of playing for country or coming here are his only choices??? If so how did we get here.

He'll almost certainly be at UK. The good news is that it's generating discussion in early August, something that should be considered when citing Matt Jones and KSR as "completely objective" sources of information in this story.

Murray's family has made it clear they want to milk the Canadian experience as long as possible. Some are just adding shoddy inference the rest of the way with the idea that Murray will suddenly have this unexpected decision to make when his father already made it clear that playing for Canada and playing for UK are not mutually exclusive. They've basically said that they're looking for a way for Murray to do both. His father heavily implied that if they can't do both, they'll be at UK.

We have one huge troll in this thread and this person doesn't even read the articles correct. If you read that link and many other articles and stories out there both Jamal Murray and his Family want him in college at Kentucky if the dates can't be worked out by the NCAA. The one person that states to read the one link that Jamal Murray and family wants him to play for Canada in the FIBA Tournament and Coach Cal doesn't want him to play in FIBA Tourney is not what I read in this link or any other Article I have read on this topic. All articles I have read said that Murray's Dad wants him at Kentucky if NCAA date won't allow him to play in the FIBA Tourney. Both Murray Family and Jamal have said he will be at Kentucky. He wants to play at Kentucky this year! I don't understand how fans or Trolls love to stir the pot in many threads to upset the true Kentucky fans. This thread has turned into a 3-page thread on something that wasn't written or said. All parties Coach Cal, Murray family, and Jamal Murray have all said they would love for Jamal to play in FIBA Tourney for Canada if the NCAA can come up with a date that would let Jamal Murray play in the FIBA Tourney for Canada. All Parties have also said if that date can't be resolved by the NCAA to let Jamal Murray play in the FIBA Tourney then he would be at KENTUCKY. Murray's dad said that Jamal Murray would be at and play for Kentucky this coming season. Jamal Murray has said this too that he would be at Kentucky and play at Kentucky if the NCAA can't work out the Dates for FIBA Tourney. This has been said in all articles and said many times that Murray will be at Kentucky and play for Kentucky this coming fall!

Oh for cripes sake, this is what happens when dim bulbs think they're bright.

I'm not trying to "turn the flank" (whatever the hell that nonsense is supposed to mean??) or any of the other odd jibberish you've been throwing out. I (along with some other posters) simply pointed out certain statements of yours that really made no logical sense. Now if you accidentally said nine when you meant seven w/r/t the alleged offer claim, then you should've essentially just said "oops, my mistake" and moved on, and we'd all (including myself) have had no problem with it.

Except I wrote just that. What are you even talking about? Go back. Re-read. I said I misspoke numerous times. It's actually quite clear what I admitted to, unless of course you are looking for an argument, which you often do.

Here's the part that apparently lost you:

It was called an error on my behalf.

Now, let's try this if it makes you content:

$1.19999999 million.

Happy now, Professor? [thumb2]

I was hoping in light of the fact that I owned my mistake, that offering this blatantly bizarre number would act as an obvious attempt at a sarcastic reply. Apparently it didn't work. You followed that number around this entire thread like a bloodhound and completely missed the sarcasm. I've known your pseudo-internet personality long enough to know that had I actually made up a number, you'd demand the source. I just thought that perhaps you'd actually catch wind of sarcasm for once. Let me make it clear: I don't know how much Murray was specifically offered. The number was sarcasm in light of your overblown response.

Also, start standing upon your own argument and own the thing, already. The presumption with which you bring others into your silly arguments - typically noting "we" or "us" as standing with you, when in reality you're the only one chasing the trivial dogshite around with a pan and bag - is pitiable.

I think BostonCat is mainly making a point that an incredible number of people have a really, really, really hard time accepting- UK needs Jamal Murray a lot more than Jamal Murray needs UK. Just like UK needs Skal Labissiere more than he needs UK, or Karl Towns, or Julius Randle, or Nerlens Noel, or Anthony Davis, or any other player who's shown enough before they arrive at UK that the NBA is eager to draft them.

It's a fact. You hope the relationship is mutually beneficial, but Murray has shown enough that he's going to be drafted in the lottery whether he plays or not (just like Dante Exum, who basically hid out for a year and still went 5th overall).

I think Cal does a great job molding players in a year, but quick, off the top of your head- who coached Chris Paul in college? How about Blake Griffin? James Harden? How about Steph Curry? If you're a hardcore college basketball fan, you can probably answer those questions, but you also probably have to spend some time thinking about it. If you're less hardcore, then you won't know the answers, at least not all of them. It just goes to show that, while a coach can certainly influence and help a player, he's still only one small factor in what might (or might not) make that player turn out to be great. The main factor is the player himself- how much ability he has, and how well he develops it.

But yes, I think it would be a huge shock if Murray isn't at UK for the 15-16 season.

I can't believe this thread is still going. UK fans love to worry about something.

Mudiay was projected as the #2 or #3 pick before the season started. So he fell a minimum of 4 spots.

And while that $8 million over 3 years looks nice. The #5 pick makes $10 million/3years, and the #3 pick $13 million, the #2 pick $15 million. So at best Mudiay lost $2 million; and, at worst $7 million. That's a pretty significant chunk of change no matter who you are.

But you're leaving out the $1.2 million he made last year in China, whatever investment returns he made on that money, and any endorsement income (I don't know if he had any or not). So it was probably a wash, unless you think he could have been a top 3 pick (which based on the play of KAT, Russell and Okafor is doubtful, but certainly possible).

The flip side is, it could always go the other way. I think if Okafor never stepped foot on a college floor last year he would have been the No. 1 pick. Playing in college highlighted his defensive weaknesses, particularly in the pick-and-roll so common in today's NBA, and that allowed KAT to bypass him.

None of that is meant to say whether Murray will or won't be at UK - I have no idea, but if I had to guess I would say yes. But I don't think the idea that he could be a top 5 pick based solely on his Nike Hoops Summit and Pan-Am Games performances is that far-fetched. In fact, while I hate to agree with Boston, I don't think he's that off base here.

In fairness to Cat fans we have been bit before (Kanter) and the simple fact remains that clouds of doubt are over not 1 but the two top recruits!

The Murray needs to come out and squash this talk about him potentially not coming to UK and the NCAA should proclaim Skal eligible if infact he is.

Unfortunately neither of these will happen because we are Kentucky fans.

Murray's dad has come out and said that if he has to choose between playing in the FIBA tournament or at UK, that he'll 100% choose Kentucky. What else should he say?

Skal has no eligibility issues and if there were they would have popped up by now.
