No Surprise. Jamal Murray Selected for Canada's FIBA Team

So was he selected for the team or the training camp? I could be totally wrong but wouldn't they make cuts? 16 seems like a lot of players for a team.

He hasn't made the team, only the training camp roster. The final roster will have 12 players.

he can play in Rio next year, this tournament is irrelevant

This tournament is very relevant as it determines who qualifies for the Olympics. Canada has not made it since 2000.

What the hell's going on? What do you mean not come to UK?

this might come as a shock...but he isnt enslaved to uk. they might decide its in his best interest to not play college ball after all next year when its all said and done. dont think it will happen...but lets be real. if he really wanted to be here...he would be here.

Anything can happen, but I think the odds of that are slim to none.

Murray won't take a chance of hurting his draft position by not playing college ball.

He knows he has a chance to be a top 5 pick after a year under Cal.

He won't do anything to jeopardize that.

He has already been offered big bucks to play professionally this year, yet chose to go to college.

Like Cal said, they are going to do everything they can to let him play in this tourney, but keeping his eligibility is priority number one. He won't jeopardize that after going to all this trouble to reclassify.

he gets drafted top 5 right now if he never plays a second of basketball for the rest of the year. the reality is...playing college basketball, increases the chances his stock would actually drop.

Emmanual Mudiay says play college basketball.
A team will not draft a player top 5 based on small serving size.

Do you honestly believe this to be true? People were saying Mudiay was a surefire top 5 pick this time last year. No one had Russell ahead of him, and Mudiay would've been in a similar situation to what Russell had going on a OSU. Not a very well thought out post bud.

He is not yet a guaranteed top 5 pick. The only chance he has at that is to show off his skills in college. This post makes not sense and I award you no points and may God have mercy on your soul.

This is totally false. His family feels that his #1 priority for his career is being at UK. This is just a stupid post. He was ready to be at UK already but Cal & the university has bent over backwards to try to make both work. He will be at UK

This is entirely wrong. Indeed, there will be no "Rio next year" for Canada unless they do well in this tournament. Only 12 countries get bids to the Olympics, and Canada's not yet earned one of those spots.

You shouldn't even think like that bro.

Correct, only 12 guys make the final roster, so he has not actually made the team yet, 4 guys will still be getting cut.

Canada isnt gonna cut this kid after his performance. He and his family are gonna have to make a decision.

Yep Boston cat is well known for his pessimistic attitude! That's saying it nicely. I'd be shocked if he was truly a UK fan.

Emmanual Mudiay says play college basketball.
and Brandon Jennings.

and Jeremy Tyler.

I know these are only a couple of examples, but has an elite american high school kid yet gone overseas and been drafted as high as they were initially projected?

He's a troll. Doubt he's even a UK fan.

One of those people who started "cheering" for UK when Slick went to Boston.

At best he is a smug, arrogant, contratian piece of crap who just likes to stir the pot and really does not care to let anyone be happy due to his own inept ability to be happy in his life. Thus, he must ruin it for everyone on a message board as he has sworn off all human interaction in the physical sense due to how society has rejected him for his enormous inability to cope with being whatever he is. Thus, Boston Troll.

Worst case...oh I think I nailed it above.

you realize mudiay went 7th this past year right...in a loaded draft class. so two draft spots is just impossible to happen? really?

Listen...we have great inside info on Murray situation & there's a 0% chance he doesn't suit up for UK. The family even made it clear that if both can't work then he would only do UK. UK is #1 priority!

That maybe hard for a negative person like you to really believe but it's reality...not a subjective opinion of a UK fan.

Your realize 5 is less than 7?

i do...but i also realize that mudiay signed 3 year, 8 million dollar contract as the 7th pick in the draft. and even if murray goes that far down...its huge coin. i get people want to act like mudiay went 20th or something, helps them feel better that uk is the only and obvious choice he has. it isnt.

again i'm fairly certain murray will be at uk. but to suggest and state its not possible he decides to skip college all together and that he "needs" to play at uk to be a top pick...is not very objective. i made my post around 8pm. matt jones mentioned something similar in his 11pm post. it is clearly a scenario, even if it is a remote one. i am confident murray will be at uk, but again, if uk was the #1 priority....he would be here, end of story. he isnt, which is fine and expected. but if uk isnt the priority....something else is....

You're the one who made the guarantee. It's not impossible, it's just far from a lock like you made it sound. Unless you have a counter to my (admittedly few) examples, it seems like there hasn't been a kid yet to go overseas and not slip at least a bit. NOBODY even dreamed talking about Mudiay outside top 3 when he was a SR. No, not a career ending slide, but is contrary to your earlier sentiment. '
