Take solace in that fellas. We witnessed a first and probably a last.
Champinships are won every single season. 38 game single season winning streaks are once in a lifetime.
Just another big blue feather to add to the big blue hat.

You are going to get pummeled for starting this thread, derided as a sunshine pumper and a Cal-o-phile, as if appreciating a coach who delivered four Final Fours and a championship in five years makes one a sycophant.

But you are correct. It had never been done, and will never be done. It makes the pain of not going two steps further more intense. But that should not melt back or tarnish the golden nature of the accomplishment, to paraphrase Horace.

Is there an opposite of an ignore list? I want it to where I only see sane posts like this.

Let's not forget that Wichita State was 35-0 last year and coming off a Final 4 where they about beat Louisville. We beat them in The Round of 32. They could have went 40-0 or 38-0. Virginia had a hell of a run this year. It can happen if you get some great players to return in today's game.

To put it in perspective...no UK fan has ever witnessed their beloved Wildcats win their 1st 38. And while we all wanted the championship let's not forget it was a remarkable run.

Nice to see some positivity. We're all disappointed, but it's as if we've been made to feel ashamed about a 38-1 Final Four year. It was kind of a pretty damn good year.

I disagree...

I wouldn't be surprised if Coach Cal and UK did something similar or actually complete the task of going 40-0.

Here's the thing, we were TALENTED. However, we lacked balance. We didn't have true 3 and some places where we had depth we could have had less depth with better talent.

We also lost one of our key player in Poythress.

I thought Coach Cal would never get better class than 2009 class with Wall...only to have better class in 2011 and 2013.

If Coach Cal stays another 10 years (hopeful), i think there's some possibility of going crazy again.

It is hard though to go undefeated just because you give everyone even more incentive to try to beat you. It's hard enough to just win it without having an even bigger target on your back. You end up playing not to lose.

Curly, I made the 'playing not to lose' comment for about the last 10 games. We just seemed to be sleep-walking at times, knowing we going to somehow win.

I was a great season.

You are right. We were at our best when we forced tempo or played a high tempo team we would blow them out. But for some reason we quit playing fast and let other teams slow us down. I think late in the year Cal believed our defense was so good we couldn't lose by limiting the opponents possessions. So we played not to lose.

I never understood why we quit platooning. Hawkins and Willis were plenty capable of sharing Lyles minutes at the 3 spot on the white platoon when Lyles moved from the White Platoon into Poythress spot in the Blue Platoon. We just gave up our depth advantage and quit wearing teams out.

I'm sorry, but every single fan would have traded a mid-season loss for a championship. 38 in a row is a great accomplishment, but I know I won't be telling my kids about this in 15-20 years. It's also hard to get too excited about 38 game win streaks when the record for college basketball is 88. Granted, that was over multiple seasons, but that's damn impressive. I know, it was a different time, but it's still crazy.

Bottom line: UK had a great regular season, and a very good post season. Were they one of the 10 best basketball teams of all time? No. Hell, 2012 and 1996 UK teams were better, in my opinion.

And 2010

Could care less. Out coached in the Final Four, no title. Like Ulis said, "38 wins and no title takes away everything". Recruits this season showed that it meant zero.

Like Army said, it was totally meaningless. The title is all that matters and we didn't win it. The way the season ended completely tarnished everything before it. This season was championship or bust so it's a bust.

I'm not trying to be so doom and gloom but this season has made sure that I'll never get excited/expect another title in the future. If it happens, great but I'll never allow myself to get my hopes up again.

As flawed as it is, you could lose 10 regular season games and no one will care or remember as long as you win six straight in the tournament.

I would take a final 4 a SEC title SEC champion, 38-1

Kentucky has the second best recruiting class, I'll take it.

Out coached? yeah the last 3 mins, but Cal out coached Bo last season. Not many if any can say that.

Disagree. I think the way Cal recruits, he could do it again.
