I heard today that Tennessee's 5* QB signee is getting an 8 million NIL deal. This was mentioned by one of Finebaum's guests. How the heck are UK and other schools supposed to recruit against that.

I hope you all are right, but the bidding wars are going to be insane. A high-school recruit who has never played a down, shouldn't be getting 8 mil.
There is going to be some more restrictions put on it. It's just the wild west this first year. BUT, UK has the money to compete with anyone if need be, but I think examples like this kid is going to be few and far between.
How much would they have paid Guantamaro? That dude was all world until he actually played in a game.

By setting up a clearinghouse for NIL deals where the school has to make full disclosure about where the money is coming from.
No way 8 mil is for name, image and likeness of this UT player. Its coming from collectives which right now is a loophole for pay for play.
The NCAA can't stop NIL but they can shut down certain revenue streams used to fund over the top payouts.
It's going to help teams like UT already is, and others that don't really do good. But now's the gates are open. Probably good for the sport. We 'll see where football lines here in the next 3 years. see if we care about it or not. It''s do or die. I like this.
It’s a marketing contract. Up to 8 million over 4 yrs. This was discussed in the Athletic article like 6 months ago. If he’s not marketable, he doesn’t make 8 million. If he is and sells a lot of merch, he makes 8 million.
If he doesn’t earn the 8 mil on the field and probably won’t the crazy NIL deals will start drying up. .
I agree with the Op ! The reason i stopped watching the NFL was it became all about the Money ! I used to be a big Redskin fan but i looked up one day and the only name i recognized was Darrell Green ! very few play for the love of the Game

I'm just saying 99% of people who are employed do it for the money. Doesn't mean they can't love their job. Also, they get paid their market value or what they are worth to the market. I’d be less worried about the back room local car dealership, bank, real estate, and restaurant collectives which have been going on all along anyway and more worried about what’s going to happen when the real big boys start to play out in the open…

Yet we forget that Wan’ Dale’s NIL got done “in close proximity” to his transfer, here. I suspect there may have been ugly threads on Nebraska forums regarding all that.
I think we will be OK long-term.
