NIL at Texas

With NIL, these borrowed cars are just for show. The studs can buy one with cash after they commit, anywhere. Kind of want kids that are more concerned about the meat of the program, not the flashy trinkets. But yes, it does turn heads. Show me a mint condition square-body K5 and I’ll commit on the spot!

UL had a Lear jet and sports cars for recruits to take photos with. It’s not uncommon, though I suspect Stoops’ culture fit desire would make that an unlikely shtick at UK recruiting events.

IMO, win. Players who make their decision based solely on cash will end up being sorely disappointed. Not all of those HS superstars will play and continue to make bank. Kids want to win and play in big games on a national stage. If UK somehow makes it to the playoff one of these years, the relative lack of NIL money won't be much of a deterrent. Again, imo.

Well, any HS player who Texas thinks they need to offer a Lambo to prob isn't considering UK. That's a player considering Mich, Georgia, Ohio, Bama, Miami, S Cal.

Texas football is like Kentucky basketball of the past 15 years. When you pile up a big heap of 5-stars, they don’t develop that team chemistry that is vital to winning championships. They’d rather show off to each other for the time they’re together than to take an interest in what the school and its fans want.

Oh sure, they’ll get the occasional near championship and might even win it all once in a blue moon. Talent shows out, after all. But we saw extremely talented teams blow out eventual national champions early in the season only to fade in a mist of disinterest and lose in the first round to a mid-major.

Texas football is similar. Less has been done with more at UTx and UK than perhaps any other university this century. Southern Cal may be a candidate for underachievement during that period, too.

As it was pointed out, those are leased for show and Texas may not even have keys for them. Texas is spending some money, but they are not spending it like a drunken sailor on frosh, they are pulling guys out of the portal who have had some success. OSU is spending like a drunken sailor on frosh, Day begged for help with their NIL packages and they are just throwing huge numbers at every recruit in the top 5 at all positions. With Mich winning the big game this year, 3 in a row over OSU, Day begging for NIL money and getting it, he better win it. USC is getting tired of Riley too, They had 3 5* kids from Georgia committed at one time, 2 have decommitted, the other is visiting somewhere every weekend, but he gets 5k plus expenses a visit. But trojans say he doesn't get out of his office to recruit. Then they begged out of the home and home with OM, and tried to get out of the home and home with LSU.

But back to Texas, I think they have a pretty good coach, when ATM bought that class they had Jimbo, he couldn't keep the bickering down, had a bunch transfer out and they have struggled every year. Biggest spenders in SEC right now is Bama, AU, and Vols, even more than the Texas schools. Bama is afraid they are going to drop off, AU is trying to keep up with Bama and who wants to wear that ugly arse orange unless they are paid well. Chumblee's offense doesn't prepare WR or QB for the NFL, very limited route tree, just spread everything out and hope they out athlete you. Nico is better than Overthrow Joe, but not at Hooker's level right now.
