Nick Richards

Davis was 6'10 with a 7'4 wingspan, and only 214# at the NHS.
Richards was 7' with 7'4, and 240#.

There are no solid numbers on Davis' vertical because the USA team doesn't participate in those, and Davis skipped the athletic portion of the combine. But some reports have his vertical around 35.5" same as Blake Griffins'. Keep in mind that is his max (running) vertical. Richards standing vertical was 30" at the NHS. That puts him in Davis' athleticism range. Now all he needs is Davis' skill, timing, quickness, and instincts..........
I know it's hard to judge a player on one game, but Nick's high school team played Duke signee Wendel Carter's team and it was a mismatch in Carter's favor. Hopefully, under Cal's coaching, Nick will perform at his best ability.

Thankfully, we ahve fouls to give next year. We don't need Richards nearly as bad as we needed Bam. If Richards is a work in progress, we will have Washington, Gabriel, SKJ.. and also plenty of height at the 2 and 3.

Honestly I would expect it to be a mismatch in Carter's favor. Carter has played basketball his entire life. He is much closer to a finished product than Richards.

In my opinion, Richards has the physical tools and athleticism to become something special. The fact that he is this far along, after just 3 years of organized basketball, is pretty amazing.

1. Anthony Davis's wingspan is 7'5.5...some think its 7'7.5
2. Bambas 7'8 ...do you realize how big of a difference that is? To have a guy with that wingspan and his skills are something that u wont see very often if at all. Dude could seriously just stand straight up without jumping and block shots.

Y'all are setting yourselves up for disappointment pumping up Richards. He's nothing more than a 6/4/2 player next year. We don't have a true low post player that's elite. That went out the door with Bambi.

Do you just post stuff without any info whatsoever? Wait, what am I saying?

OK.

Bamba is not an elite scorer that is certain. He is a better defender but it isn't like the difference in monumental in the two. Also Richards fared very well against Bamba in all of the All Start circuits.

But keep your agenda Zaytoven
The difference between the 2 is monumental actually. Richards is still learning how to play the game. His awareness isn't close to Bamba's. Defense isn't just about blocking shots. Not only is Bamba a superior shot blocker than Richards but he is far superior in every other aspect of defense.

K.

I am the farthest thing from a homer you will ever find.

Bamba is a great player but he is a little overrated in my eyes. He has the same problems Richards does in they struggle to score in the post as they don't have much offense.

On defense Bamba is elite shot blocker and Richards is developing into one with a 7'0 240 frame and 7'4 wingspan.

Bamba maybe a finished product, but he wants to play away from the basket. Continually stated he is a 4 not a 5. Read somewhere that when the occasion became physical, Bamba backed down a lot of the times, floating to perimeter jacking up shots.
Richards is a top 15 prospect with 3yrs organized basketball...Bamba was a top 5 with whole life playing the game...
Richards plays mean , like Tarzan , while the knock on Bamba is he plays like Jane, a lil soft( always on perimeter)

Just go watch tape on Richards and you will see pretty solid skills and really nice athleticism. He can fly for a big guy and will get excellent coaching from Payne and the staff. I think he will surprise people later in the year.

Washington brings toughness - reminds me of T Jones.
Vanderbilt will be a good one as well.

I'm excited about this class despite not getting Bamba.

Equal or better, huh. Take off the blue goggles dude. Richards is a good player, don't get me wrong. Bamba is a possible top 5 pic.
If Richards had a 7ft9 wingspan he wouldn't be? I would say they are pretty equal in most areas and Richards was touted at the hoop summit practices as being able to even guard out on the perimeter some.

That's ok. Richards is a top 12 pick. Or top 10. Or whatever the **** it was.

After Bamba picked TX, I can't say I wasn't a lil angry. Bamba is going to be a special talent. If a talent like Bamba went elsewhere, most years we would be screwed. Luckily for us, this isn't one of those years. We have went into the season many times with less height and talent in the post. This year we have the length, height and talent. They just need to get on the floor and gain some playing time. We will be fine. Richards will become a really talented big man. We might have to play small at times, but with the forwards we have on our current roster, trust me it won't be a bad thing. We will have one of the quickest teams in the country when Knox, Washinton and Vandy are on the floor at the same time. When we need height and weight in our post, we have it to use. If we were actually lacking talented big guys, I would worry. We don't. Gabriel is a big kid that will look like a totally different player as a SO.

http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Nick-Richards-90071/ here is draft express evaluation I have looked everywhere for this so called weak hands thing I keep hearing this is an old write up and they say a bit Shakey. remember the one ESPN guy say it during the Jordan game and Mike Bibby laughing at him as Richards grabbed a kick ass one handed slam. I think he does have habit of fouling but Bamba would have at first too. Looks.like they consider him a good rim protector.

Skal says hi. [laughing]

But, seriously, I'm betting everything I have that we don't have a Skal-2.0 [jumpingsmile]

That's a danger with every single player we sign. However, Richards played his high school ball for one of the best programs in the country. Skal played on a made up prep team. Richards is physical and probably throws his body around too much. Skal would have preferred to never step foot in the lane.

Richards reminds me of Magloire in regards to his demeanor. I'll take that everyday.
I think he's more athletic than Magloire as well. Cal and KP will get him there on the rest.

If you got to watch some of Nick Richards senior year in high school and his All-Star Performances you would say Nick Richards to me was more polished on the Offensive side of play. He did outstanding in the All-Star games and was just as good as Bamba. Bamba does have a slight edge on defensive side of the ball but they are both outstanding players. I think with SKJ as backup and Wynyard there as well we will be fine at the Center position. It would had been great to get Bamba but we will be fine in our Frontcourt in 2017-2018 season. We will have Bamba, SKJ, Gabriel, PJ Washington, Vanderbilt, and Wynyard in the Frontcourt. Then add Green, Alexander, Baker, Knox, and Diallo or Cam Johnson in the Backcourt and it will be a huge year for Kentucky in 2017-2018. We know Green has a nice outside shot as well as Alexander and Baker. Vanderbilt and PJ Washington can shoot from the outside and from 3 point to go with Knox, Diallo or Johnson and we could have an outstanding shooting team next year.
