New running back commit

This young man plays in the same region as our local high school. Top to bottom I would put this region up against any region in the country: includes Colquitt County (which finished in the top 10 of most national high school polls), perennial powers Lowndes High, Camden, and Valdosta. At one point this season, 4 of the 6 region teams were in the top 9 in Georgia's highest classification, and 4 of the teams ended the season in the top 10.

I have watched Sihiem for a while against some very good competition, and he is the real deal. Don't let his size make you think he can't play RB at the SEC level. He can. He has great vision, speed, quick cuts, and he is tough to bring down.

He will have a great football mindset, because no one takes football more seriously than the Colquitt County folks. Not only will they regularly have 10,000 in attendance from a town of 14,000 people and a county of about 45,000, they will typically sell several thousand pre-game meals prepared by their school's extra-curricular activities groups to help raise funds. On Friday nights Colquitt football is the only show in town, and the rest of the week it is the only topic of discussion in town.

As an aside, their local paper is reporting that every one of Colquitt's 15 senior starters have been offered by colleges.
You forgot my Tift County Blue Devils.

Seriously though, I saw Sihiem play live several times at Colquitt County. He is a certified badass with blazing speed. His size is obviously his biggest limitation and was of course the reason why he wasn't recruited by more of the big boys. I still think he can be very successful in the SEC.

78 is exactly right about Colquitt County. Ever since Rush Probst (of Two-a-days, Hoover High fame) got to Moultrie it has been at a fever pitch. They are the south Georgia powerhouse right now, supplanting both Valdosta and Lowndes.

DACats, I enjoy your posts but respectfully disagree about the 6A final this year. If Colquitt had lost it would have been a surprise. They had been to at least the semifinal the previous 4 years and were set to get over the hump this year with the best team Rush has had there. It's amazing what Rush has gone on there in the last 5+ years.

Archer started the year out with something like a 1-3 record and then reeled off 10 straight wins before the championship game, they could be the favorite to win it in 15 provided they don't have a bunch of guys transfer out to more of the traditional state power schools. I didn't realize they were so young which explains their early season troubles.
Class program too, Grumpy. We (Etowah) played them in the state semi-finals. They beat us to death, but they were all class. No woofing or show-boating. Their kids were very complimentary toward the Etowah players after the game.

I'm biased H-D Cat - Archer beat "my" team (Etowah), so I wanted them to win state!

They led much of the c-ship game and had a chance to win.

At 5'8" 175 ...no way is he being recruited to play rb in the sec...Maybe special teams returner or db...

To compare a small high school running back (and there are a million of them) to somebody who's a professional athlete is just the height of lunacy.

He compared their size....

This is huge for us and a total shock for me. He could be the best offensive player in this class. The young man had excellent coaching in high school. As good as anyone.

Moultrie is near the Florida border and a hot bed of high school football. A 50 mile radius produces some of the best players in America. This is very positive news. Don't worry about his size, the kid is a player.

For all you guys bemoaning King's "size". That don't have diddly squat to do with whether or not the kid can play football. Speed kills, and 4.38 speed, will cure a lot of ills and more than make up for his lack of "size". But get him in the weight room and bulk him up to about 190 lbs, and you got a monster in the making.

All the small RBs that ever played D-1 football all had the same thing said about them. Why don't ya'll give him a chance to play some college football before you start whining about how small he is.

Mark Higgs, Darren Sproles, Warrick Dunn, Derrick Locke, all say hello to the naysayers.

A lot of UK fans immediately think Drake Davis and Raymond Sanders and form their opinions. However, this guy is a different type player, he has great hands, elite speed, tremendous field vision plus stop on a dime jump cut ability. He is a Tavon Austin, Noel Devine, type player. It was also mentioned in the Moultrie Observer that Florida and Michigan made late pushes for him.

It also opens up the South Georgia area for future recruiting. The Valdosta, Moultrie, Tifton, Thomasville area is chock full of elite athletes. Football in that area is a religion.

For a UK fan Derek Locke is a good comparison. The difference is Locke carried the ball way too much for his size and had a hard time staying healthy. King will probably never carry the ball more than 10-12 times per game, but may catch it 6-8 times per game. Again, the 8A POY in GA and nominated for the USA Today National POY. Kid runs a sub 4.4. Bring him on.

For a player that doesn't have a chance due to his size he sure as hell made a ton of plays against the highest level of high school competition. You really have to wonder what kind of numbers the local FIVE STAR RB would have put up against that type of competition.

The biggest thing I noticed in him (besides the speed and shiftiness) was the number of passes he caught, seems to be an excellent receiver, and also his toughness, really didn't ever just give up and go down.

Way underrated to me, and I am sure our new OC can find ways to get him in open space.

Slugger-

Archer is absolutely loaded. They are all juniors and sophomores. Should have beaten Colquitt in state finals. The problem with Archer, though, is that it's about 30 miles from UGA, and South Carolina has offered everyone on the team and has been recruiting them since they were freshmen.

DA86...Disagree...I watched the SC game and I thought the best team one on that night...I watched it and zeroed in on King so I came away very impressed with him ...Despite his size he played very physical and Loved the way he would put his foot in the ground and went north and south ,especially at the end when they put the ball in his hands to seal the game...As for Archer , I was impressed with them also and then mentioned that LB Dylan Singleton had already been by UK...I really think we got a steal in this kid in the BOOM mold

No doubt. Hard to imagine this kid being left standing around until NSD. We can utilize a kid like this all sorts of ways. Even if you are playing a bigger back in the backfield, you can work him on the field in a slot/jet motion role that will drive DC's ape crazy. Bubble screens to this kid??? With some of those 6'5" wideouts we are loading up on crushing the DB's??? Whoah, Nelly! All that said, he could still play as a traditional RB... just not sure you want to ask him to carry a lot between the tackles, though even that might change depending on how he matures and develops physically.

Anyway, clearly a bona fide weapon for the offense we are running.

dear slugger-do you really think he's going to stay 175 pounds. Probably was his weigh in for senior fall practice.
VB1...Goes to show you that you shouldn't judge on a kid before watching him and having all the info on him...I am very happy to say that I rushed to judgment On SK...I think he easily can carry another 10-15 lbs...I think the kid is the real deal and very happy we signed him

I have always thought brainpower is more important in most situations, I always close my eyes before I turn out the light and jump in bed. I landed on the wife a few times, but what the hell, that usually was interesting anyway

I think this is a guy a lot of teams missed out on, and should be an ideal fit in Dawson's offense, probably a big factor in him joining us I also don't think we should be running him up the middle on fourth and one, (we have players for that) but I think he can be a great RB in a lot of running and passing situations.

My first thought was...another Raymond Stephens. A guy without much wiggle who just played for a powerhouse team who got him his yards. WRONG! This guy's tape screams SEC talent. Forget the 4.38 speed, this guy has major shiftiness and cutback moves that Raymond (God bless him he was a good Wildcat!) simply didn't have. He'll be a significant contributor...love the way he catches the ball out of the backfield.

So you haven't seen him play and know none of the coaches but comment on the ones that do.Thanks for playing.

Seems to me, we had a back a few years ago that slipped through the cracks named Derrick Locke that wasn't the biggest back but he turned out pretty well. He sure could get to the edge quickly. Don't forget we have a great strength and conditioning program. Small backs that are short and weigh between 185 and 200 are just as big as a 6'1 - 6'3 back that weighs 210 - 215. Both type back can be very efficient, just depends on their ability.
