New portal guy

If we are recruiting guys that SMU, Grand Canyon and Miss St are going after I’m not going to get real excited

I mean he’s been a coach for like 15 minutes. What do you expect? Which portal guys, specifically, should he be going after?

Perhaps give him a season or two to establish himself and actually be able to recruit high school guys and portal guys with some continuity before we throw shade?

He basically has to build an entire roster in a month or 2 all out of the portal. Whilst having been head coach for like 2 days.

Pope needs to prove himself but I have expected next year to be “meh” regardless.

I’m very interested to see which high school guys he starts recruiting the next couple of years and which portal guys he tries to get next couple of years

I do wonder if some people realize we’ve got basically 1 sure fire scholarship player next season. Some of these players could just be depth pieces for us for practicing and developing for future. Not every single one of these is meant to be a starter or star, so I’m excited to see what players we end up with.

Even in the old NCAA Basketball games one had to build their pipelines in franchise mode, real life is another level of difficulty.

I also think the anti NBA vibe has to turn way down.
There are somewhere near zero high level players that don't have the dream and I mean even most of the 3 stars, pipedream or not.

I suspect Pope is well aware and just shifting the focus some for fan consumption.

I wouldn't take down the NBA pictures at all, I'd reformat the display to add Kentucky ones as well to illustrate the path and would do it all the way back to Rupp.

Gnash the teeth and boo all you like.

Opportunity sells and you sneak in a little more tradition along the way.

Barnes always aggressive getting shooters. Dubar just committed to them. Tyson visited them at the same time Dubar did. Hopefully we can get Tyson before they do.
I hope so too. But I hated hearing Cade Tyson was visiting TN (more so than any other school) because I figured they would sell him on being the next Knecht. I don't think he has the same upside as Knecht, but I think he's going to be a very good SF piece for somebody.

I completely agree. You can’t just shun the NBA and act like that’s not every good high school player/college players ultimate goal. Loving your college team and putting your heart on the line, while also wanting to make the NBA are not mutually exclusive. You can have both.

I think back to the postgame scene with Fox and Bam in tears after losing to UNC. Obviously those guys’ ultimate goal was to make the NBA but they put their heart and souls on the line for UK

That Joe Adams guy just said he thinks Jaxson Robinson is our best player next year. Pardon my French but hell no. I sent Robinson to be our 2nd or 3rd option
If you’re going to bitch about next year’s roster when Pope will have very little time to even move into his office, let alone recruit, then you are beyond unreasonable.

Dude shut the hell up. The Robinson kid ain’t a number one option and I’m not the only one saying it. Take that moral high ground bullshit and shove it

It's not like Pope has a high bar to clear to surpass Cal in the last 4 years anyway. Just win a tourney game and maybe two games in the SECT and he's there.

I'm more focused on when we learn who makes up his staff. That's the #1 most important thing to me. I get he loves Kentucky. He would crawl to be here, he'd name his next daughter after the state, etc.....but who is going to help get the program going? This needs to be out there ASAP.
Me too, I hope we have those positions filled by the end of the week at the latest. I hope some are working and just not announced yet.

Yea, you’re the reason UK fans have a bad reputation. Cal has some hogs you can go call on if you want recruiting rankings.
