Nebraska canceling spring game going forward

Rhule was mad about us taking Dowdell. I would assume thats why he went after Key and Gilmore.

When you are as loaded as Nebraska .. you got to be careful … lmao 😜

He has other issues if he thinks that teams won’t find out what players they have and if a team wants them they will still enter the portal

Nebraska lol. They haven’t been relevant since they moved to the B10. They lost their recruiting base in Texas when they moved out of the B12. The state of Kentucky produces more D1 athletes than Nebraska does although HS recruiting is a lot less important now.

Then play it in the practice dome to select season ticket holders.

Players can still request the all 22 film.

Imo its just a way to protect nil players. Given where the sport is, it probably isnt a bad move. Especially considering the money they reportedly spent.

Iirc key committed there before we took dowdell. Then Gilmore jumped in last second due to reported offer he couldn't refuse.

Nebraska is going big on a few kids. But reality is they are in a fight to be a top 5 Big10 program. IMO, they are clearly behind OSU, PSU, MICH and OU. There are 3-4 other programs that had better years in 24. Seems more like a pat himself on the back moment. Who does he think will be lining up to steal players from a mediocre team?

OU?

I would put WI and IA ahead of NE currently. Both have had much more success the past 15 years or so than the Cornhuskers. But, you're right that they will have to improve to get to the top half of the conference. It would be very surprising to me if they somehow got into the top 3 - very surprising.

0U meant Oregon. Wont argue those programs you mentioned aren't better but that 4 are clearly better.

You're right. Still can't get my head around UW, OU, USC and UCLA being in the B10. When I saw OU, I thought OK, not Oregon.

I wasn't very clear, but still think he is doing a little self promoting and trying to get fans behind him. I think he is slightly better than average coach and he's delusional if he thinks teams are waiting to tampering with his roster.

Last year, their spring game was on April 27th and the portal closed on April 30th for players to enter. Something tells me a majority of the kids who entered the portal after the game did so because they wanted to move on, not because they were poached from their productivity in a spring game.

The portal closes on April 25 this year for players to enter. Just have the game on Saturday, April 26th and problem is solved.

No way another team wants Raioli. 😂

Isn't the new era of college athletics great? He's worried about other schools poaching his players after they look good in the spring game.https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/43653013/nebraska-likely-cancel-spring-game-transfer-concerns
Sounds similar to a jealous husband who doesn't like it when other guys look at his wife. If I was a player, I might take it as you are intentionally limiting my visibility, thus my potential opportunities, if I am not getting what I need here.

He is a decent QB, But those 13 TDs and 11 into won't get it and he attended 4 different HS during his career. Played on a stacked Buford team with at least 3 5* in his class, had multiple P4 signees in 25 and loaded again in 26. With 40+ D1 signees in 3 years of Ryola's class and couldn't win a state championship. Won't win one at Nebraska either.

Of course he won’t. He was a true freshman that has two more years. If he entered the portal today almost every top team would be after him

Does someone want to tell them they're going to transfer anyway?

The balls of this guy, Rhule. He hires our coach and takes two of our top three receivers and moans.

You can tell a lot about a coach by what he purports to think or does about what "others are doing." A tamperer is going to assume everyone else does it, and act on it accordingly.

Of course, we all know it's being done, but why should he worry unless his players know he tampered with them? If he's a great coach, why would they leave? If he's not going to play them all, why keep them from going somewhere else?

It IS Nebraska, though, so....

That's too much thinking and reasoning.

This sounds like it will backfire horribly. Kids who don't play much but feel like they could have transferred out if they could have shown what they had... word will spread, and players will be iffy about competitive positions.

Texas and Oklahoma have canceled also.

Seems to be something that is catching on with quite a few other programs considering not having a conventional spring game. I understand wanting to hang on to the players you are counting on in your 2 deep. But for all the kids who fall below that it takes away their opportunity to be anything other that a scout team member.

Spring game doesn’t amount to diddly.

There’s 50 teams who just played in a bowl game and got a couple weeks extra practice.

Horns and other playoff of teams season literally just ended. They got even more practice and opportunity to develop young talent.

A spring game is a practice. That fans can attend and ESPN can film. A half assed one at that.

I don't think anyone will argue against that. But as a UGA fan that gets basically no information with the security Kirby has for practice. Out of the 15, 14 with a spring game, all are closed, parents can attend, select recruits, big boosters, media gets 10 minutes of viewing on about half of them. No fil.ing, anyone caught filming is asked to leave. So spring game is a big deal if nothing else but to see new guys for a few plays.

But as we all know, college football is a work in progress and tampering is a huge issue right now. Nebraska has turned out to be one of the worst, so it stands to reason he is one with the most concern. You think they didn't tamper with the young UK WR?

I think tampering amounts to about as much as a spring game.

Nebraska didn't snag a couple of our players because of tampering. Those players were looking for greener pastures because our coach and staff couldn't draw up an offensive game plan if one was handed to them from Andy Ried. They are historically lacking in the development of skill talent.

I get it from the fan's perspective. Especially football fans in the springtime. We want something to hold us over before the summer sports doldrums. However, I would also argue that we don't get much from spring practice. Especially when we're 13 years in with coach. Same goes for UGA.

I know what we're getting with CMS. There are threads every year that pretty much nail what will happen.

Same goes for UGA. Kirby will win 11 games most likely, end up in the SEC title game and playoffs.

However, I also get it from the coach, player, admin perspective. Especially in today's game that is just absolutely non-stop.

Practice is sacrosanct. Offseason specifically. Saturdays and all the pomp and circumstance that comes during the season is for the fans.

Practice is for the fellas, the squad. They got to have some kind of reprieve from the seemingly endless cycle of the mass industry of sports.

I think an un-intended consequence of this current momentum that kids are on the move so much and now we are cancelling spring games, etc...fans are going to care a ton less. Spring games were always a nice perk for fans and to keep a level on intimacy between program and fanbase.

Colleges might want to reconsider this current behavior....this kind of constant crap treatment to fans to appease players/rosters...might end in a NBA viewership that is tanking due to this kind of fans dismissing stuff.

Spring practice is a huge deal when you have several new players expecting to step into starting roles both for the coaches to get more evaluation and for fans to just see new players. UGA will have 4-5 players who weren't on the roster in 24 contributing and expected to start. To be honest I am not excited about 25, I believe we have the wordt OL coach in P4 football, he turned an OL with 4 starters returning from a Joe Moore finalist to one that couldn't stop penetration. I just don't see UGA being good enough offensively in 25 to be much of a threat to anyone. But I would still like to see where the OL is this spring.
