NBA Scout tells CBS Sports on Sunday

I would simply say that the #1 overall pick was never viewed as a marginal player. There are a lot of elite athletes that don't make in the the League. HD has yet to play a minute of college ball so unless he completely goes off in workouts there's a very good chance he will play at least 1 year for the Cats.
Bennett wasn't seen as a 1 pick by anyone other than the morons who picked him. He was a tweener to begin with and he had limited basketball skills. HD is very different than Bennett.

It's a tactic by a Calipari detractor to trick Diallo into staying in the draft to not only hurt Coach Cal, but to ruin the kids chances as well.

In all seriousness though, if he is told he's a first-rounder, then he should go, without question. I just hope people don't tell him that and he goes in the 2nd round somewhere. He has a chance next year at UK to work himself into the lottery and the big bucks. I think he needs to seriously think about that before taking the huge gamble on being a late first-rounder. There are a ton of guards in the draft already and all of them (aside for Diallo) have proven themselves at some point or another in the college game.

Ok, that was amusing but let me say this one last time. HD is an elite defender with elite athleticism, elite finishing skills and is elite off the dribble. He is 18 with potential that is through the roof. So you cherry picked a few marginal players. HD is not now and has never been viewed as a marginal NBA player. His biggest flaw happens to be the easiest to fix - shooting. You are too fond of your own opinion bit you're welcome to call me ignorant or any other negative label you wish. I couldn't care less.

Of course I cherry picked, it doesn't take away my point. Julius Hodge was also an elite defender with elite atheticism, actually he & Diallo had/have very similar games and measureables. Bennett was the FREAKIN #1 OVERALL pick. Diallo AIN'T GOING THAT HIGH any year. The point is still the same, these so-called experts MISS and MISS OFTEN! There are no 100% guarantees in life (except for eventual death), and that is even more true in trying to predict the future success of an athlete.

It's not worth my time to research, but I would bet that over the past say 10 years, so 300 first round picks, that no more than 30% had a 2nd contract as a Max contract. And there is probably an equal number that were at best NBA bench-journeymen or out of the league within 5 years.

The question Diallo has to answer for himself is would he rather increase his chances at becoming "set for life" OR does he want good money NOW. I guess the other question he could ask himself, is he not confident that he will not be able to learn how to shoot or that his game will show as flawed by playing 1 year.

Bennett at #1 was a reach, but he was seen by most as a top 5-10 pick. Diallo is NOT even seen as a top 5-10 pick this year. I thought at the time Bennett was a tweener (same reason I think Washington will be at UK for multiple years) and shouldn't be taken in the lottery. Teams see a tweener & think they have the next Barkley or D.Green. Those don't come around often.

Diallo is a shooting guard that is a questionable (at best) shooter. That is an important part of the game for that position! Even if he goes out and shoots well in workouts, that is VERY different than shooting well in games. So there is a HUGE risk for taking him without seeing him vs high level competition (they don't play D in high school or AAU, and he still couldn't make jumpers).

If he does stay in the draft its on Cal.Hes been played like a violin and he cant let that happen any more.If he was going to do this and we all suspected he might he should have been made to play this year.Im fed up with all these kids using Kentucky its pathetic.

We use them too, bubba. What exactly did Diallo steal from us? Nada.

Hope he stays, plays four years, becomes the highest paid athlete ever and moves to Lexington. If not good luck to him and he doesn't know what he'll be missing.
