NBA Scout tells CBS Sports on Sunday

In other words, Gary Parrish got a scout to say that Diallo is a first rounder, and that's the scout Parrish chooses to quote.

No sign of journalism anywhere, but what else is new.
Just remember Parrish is a huge Memphis fan and has to endure that dumpster fire under Tubby.

in regards to Hamidou Diallo: "He'd be a first-round pick if he stays in [the draft]," If that is true, he's gone.

Link:

If that's true, that DOES NOT mean he is gone. If I tell you that you can have $3M over three years, OR you can wait 1 year and get $10M over 3 years, which would you take? I'm not saying everyone takes the $10M (top 5 pick) or the $3M (bottom 5 pick), but it is certainly not a done deal either way.

I speculate he returns unless he thinks he is going in the lottery (or at least the teens) after "trying out".

And in this deep & talented draft, I can't see him in the top 15 (basically the 2nd SG, only behind Monk). And next year top 10 is a possibility in what looks like a much less talented draft class.

6 months to basketball season.... I will be watching whoever is wearing the UK uniform and drinking beer.

I wouldn't put much stock in this. The majority of scouts have said the opposite but of course workouts could change things.

He knows he will be lottery next year, so unless there's some huge change and he starts getting projected for lotto this year, he'll be back.

Relax everyone, he's just doing what all kids should do with these new rules - feel out and get some advice on what might need work to get into that lotto range.

Gary believes Diallo will not be back at UK especially if he's first round.

These kids are always looking toward the second contract and this would make it happen one year earlier. Unfortunately, some kids do not get the second contract.

He probably will be a first round pick but not a high one. The NBA will need to see him play in order to invest that kind of pick in a guard that has a reputation of not hitting jump shots. Diallo will be a late first rounder in this draft. If he returns and shows he can shoot he will be a top 5 pick no doubt. If he shoots well enough might even go #1. He has all the reasons in the world to come back.

That's not much of a stretch. But he also could have found plenty of scouts to say that Diallo is a second rounder.

He chose to quote a scout saying Diallo is a first rounder, and chose not to balance the story. That's agenda driven, imo.

But whatever. I'm not pretending to know what Diallo will do. I would expect him to leave with a first round guarantee or stay without it. But that's only a guess.
