NBA All-Star Game - Complete Garbage

I enjoyed it. This format had players actually competing a little.

I recorded last night’s festivities because we were playing.

Watched it after our game.

Herro winning the 3 point. That Mac dude has made the dunk contest watchable again.

Watching VW grow into a star. ⭐️

Chris Paul cheating the skills contest was a Chris Paul thing to do. I’m glad they DQ’ed him.

It’s a celebration of the game of basketball.

🏀

To be honest, All-Star games have outlived their usefulness as a general concept. Back in the days when teams mostly played regional schedules and out of region games on TV were rare, it made sense to organize events like that to give fans a chance to see players they might have otherwise only heard stories about. Now in the days of national TV broadcasts and streaming and league schedules that have every team playing every city at least once, they aren’t a unique opportunity for fans anymore. Add in that player salaries have grown so much that it’s no longer very feasible to incentivize them enough to risk injury in a meaningless exhibition, and you end up where we’re at. You can’t find an All-Star event that anyone actually thinks is good in any sport despite the leagues feverishly tinkering with the format trying to keep them relevant.

This was the first time I skipped the Saturday and Sunday events. My Bday is the same weekend so I usually make some good wings and watch. Since my back is fuked I was in bed at 5pm and didn't have any interest in getting up for it. I agree it's been pretty bad last few years though.

Mac made the dunk contest watchable and entertaining again, if you ask me. It proves you don't NEED stars in the dunk contest. I liked it. Herro winning the 3 point contest was a nice touch.

the all star game itself still unwatchable IMHO however.

*sigh*

at least we got college basketball this year, it has been a great year for college hoops in the SEC !

The format was okay(still not competitive) and and they had too many breaks .

The only game where they attempted defense was the rising stars vs the Ogs for obvious reasons . The rising stars were not true all stars so they weren’t “too cool” to attempt to play defense and they wanted to pull off the upset . The OGs obviously didn’t want to lose a bunch of young guys that weren’t all stars so they played defense for a stretch .

Lebron and Anthony Edwards sitting out at the last minute was lame too .

Yup.

Someone else could have played in the game. Even with Young and Kyrie getting to play, there were still multiple deserving guys left out.

Sabonis and Lamelo seem like the 2 most glaring.

I used to enjoy it but haven't liked it for years. Why they can’t figure out that the players need to try to make it any good is beyond me.

They definitely could have got Norman Powell who participated in the 3 pt contest . Bron didn’t even arrive until Sunday .

Anthony Edwards seems to be going out of his way to not be the face of the league .

Someone on Reddit posted.

It was a 3+ hour NBA event. There were 42 minutes of basketball across 3 games.
Yup Trae Young also complained about the breaks . I’m not sure why they thought would be a good idea . 40 pts with no defense is a very low target score and makes for a quick game . They could have easily increased the target score and decreased all of the breaks.

Viewership down 5%, allegiance to China, one the leagues biggest, loudest asshats calling the game “boring,” pre-madonna “load management” babies, oh yeah, nepobaby, and inmates running the asylum…
I grew up watching the NBA of the 70's. Well, barely watching. One game a week on TV. The finals on tape delay. .. Doesn't seem like much of a p[roblem today.

Owners richer than ever. Players richer than ever. It's a true global game.

Good for the owners, good for the players. The wnba is on TV too, hardly makes that trash a juggernaut. Viewership being down speaks to the fact that this current iteration of the NBA isn’t as attractive as it once was. Adam Silver realizes this and has stated repeatedly that changes need to be made.
