Update on Nate Ament's recruitment: Where does Kentucky stand?
In the ever-evolving world of college basketball recruiting, few prospects have garnered as much attention as 6-foot-9, 185-pound forward Nate Ament. This skill
I read it was between Duke and us. The cost would be between $3 million to $5 million for a one and done. Not sure that will be a good investment. Think what we could get from portal with that amount of money. Maybe two seasoned guys with two years to play. Just saying. I have no idea which would be best. How much will a true freshman benefit us? Not very often does a freshman come in and contribute like Flagg has at Duke. I feel like we have had our fill of one and done kids.I continue to think he will be a SF wherever he goes next year. And whoever gets him is going to offer him “a bag”. So will everyone who recruits him but doesn’t get him.
we may not get a better portal frontcourt players than ament from portalI read it was between Duke and us. The cost would be between $3 million to $5 million for a one and done. Again, you can check potential portal candidates for frontcourt, not many will be better than freshmen Ament. So are we back to one and done “must haves”??? The last i read, we were done with that and would rather “lose with upperclassman”.
Please advise.
Having one or two a year is ideal to mix with veterans and transfers. Heavy one way or the other has proven to not work as well.So are we back to one and done “must haves”??? The last i read, we were done with that and would rather “lose with upperclassman”.

Nice but Caleb Williams was in Atlanta to watch UK beat Duke. Didn't help.Seriously.. how could you look at what Pope is doing, with the chance to be THE PF next year that this offense can run through.. along with a good paycheck.. and want to go elsewhere? Go be the 3rd PF on a Duke team that's clearly undercoached? UNC to play on a sinking ship?

Would be a big upgrade at QB no doubt!Nice but Caleb Williams was in Atlanta to watch UK beat Duke. Didn't help.
And Ament I believe has similar level with frosh version of randle. So he will be better than most frontcourt transfers
I totally agree but read where we didn’t want a single one of them anymore, lol.Having one or two a year is ideal to mix with veterans and transfers. Heavy one way or the other has proven to not work as well.
Yep, in today's game it's all about the money. I do think there are some kids that actually want to be the main guy, so if he wants that, his best bet would be Duke if they didn't already have that position stacked. UNC is a mess, but some kids see those as opportunities to come in a be a savior (but again, while demanding money).Kentucky needs to offer a bag. If they do they get them. If not, he'll go elsewhere.

Not at 185 lbswe may not get a better portal frontcourt players than ament from portal
Remember we do not have covid transfers and choices are more limited

Bingo. I tell the kid "go learn somewhere else, then we'll talk". Multi-year contracts are needed here, and financial penalties for not following through.I don't know if I'd want to pay even the low end of that, despite what I said above.
I mean 3 to 5mil is crazy for one season from an 18 year old, especially if they aren't under any sort of contract.
If this is how its going to be eith the top15 or so recruits.. maybe its better to go give $1mil to five of the top portal guys.
In 2024 the average household income was $86,116 in Kentucky. This is not individual, but household total. If we were tp pay a OND kid $3 million, it would be the equivalent of 34 years of an average household earnings. If the number is $5 million, it would take the average household 58 years to make this amount. To give a kid this kind of money is just Bat Shvt Crazy. Now I know most on this board make a lot more than the $86K but very few are making anywhere close to $3 to $5 million per year. Certainly not to play a game.Zero chance this kids production is worth 3 million dollars. If he stayed for a second year, maybe he would be worth a million each year.
Inflated worth is a real issue and it goes much further than just money.
That already existsBingo. I tell the kid "go learn somewhere else, then we'll talk". Multi-year contracts are needed here, and financial penalties for not following through.
I assure you most here don't make more than $86K, nor are they part of a two income family that makes that much. Anyone can claim anything, of course. In 2024 the average household income was $86,116 in Kentucky. This is not individual, but household total. I would love to have him as a SF or PF, or as a point guard, but not for $3 million. I'm sure he will be a good college player and will contribute to any team he chooses but I think we could build a better squad by dividing that amount of money in the portal.I agree not a PF at all
Lol. Most jobs that aren't white-collar variety don't pay $21 per hour to start. Minimum wage is much lower than that. Surely you know this.If it’s two people that’s 21 dollars an hour. Not that hard to find a higher paying job nowadays I would think.
I agree if he signs, it is between the player and the team. I am just saying that I think the kid is not worth $3 Million. If he get $5 million it is no ones business except the kid and team. You are only nosy if you try to find out how much the kids gets after the decision is made, it is what it is.People are way too nosy about how much players make. In every sport.

The root of the problem isn't really about the money. It's the fact they're 1AD who are very likely not going to live up to their ranking, and because he got all that money there likely wasn't enough to build high quality talent around him. It's about meeting expectations.I agree if he signs, it is between the player and the team. I am just saying that I think the kid is not worth $3 Million. It’s not my money, but I wouldn’t pay $5 million for Dybansta, the Boozers, Wilson, AND Ament!
Not for Freshmen! No way… And I’d be willing to bet that a team with the above collection of players wouldn’t sniff a FF either!
These kids are looking to cash in, NOT win National Championships.
