Nate Ament latest news "rumors are swirling he will be in lexington tuesday night for the Tennessee game " last visit

In 2024 the average household income was $86,116 in Kentucky. This is not individual, but household total. If we were tp pay a OND kid $3 million, it would be the equivalent of 34 years of an average household earnings. If the number is $5 million, it would take the average household 58 years to make this amount. To give a kid this kind of money is just Bat Shvt Crazy. Now I know most on this board make a lot more than the $86K but very few are making anywhere close to $3 to $5 million per year. Certainly not to play a game.

Here’s another perspective: Nate Ament is ranked in the top 15 in the US in what he does for his age. That puts him in the top .01% in his age group. The average person makes 86k, so let’s say 40% make that. How much more should somebody in the top .01% of the world make versus someone who is in the top 40%? How much money does an average person in the top
.01% make? How much does a doctor, lawyer, accountant, engineer, stock broker, banker etc that is in the top .01% of their profession make?

I read it was between Duke and us. The cost would be between $3 million to $5 million for a one and done. Not sure that will be a good investment. Think what we could get from portal with that amount of money. Maybe two seasoned guys with two years to play. Just saying. I have no idea which would be best. How much will a true freshman benefit us? Not very often does a freshman come in and contribute like Flagg has at Duke. I feel like we have had our fill of one and done kids.
UK has SEC money, Duke has ACC money. A SEC school should be able to out bid an ACC school.

The players are going to get market value whether we like it or not.

Their value is determined by the person writing the check.

At some point the value of using player’s name, image and likeness will be less than the cost. When that day comes the market will correct.

Between Duke and UL according to Joe Tipton
If I were only going by what Tipton said I'd rather be us than UL. The more times you say "they have a legitimate shot" in one interview the more it sounds like you're trying to convince yourself. Rather be the dark horse.

I don’t want to be that guy, but Kentucky does not have a $86k average household income. The median, I know it’s not same as average, was $61k in 2023.

Understand those who don't want to live with a team of Freshmen. That being said, there's some out there who have gone way to the other side and want to turn down an elite talent in a great HS class of talent but will celebrate if some old ass guy who can't play but yells/screams possible return.

If you are saying this because you want to massage the fact that he's unlikely to choose Kentucky. I get that. But to literally crap on idea of bringing in an elite talent is strange.

Boosters have never been in it for monetary returns. They have been giving money to players for decades and have gotten no monetary return, it's more like donation money to them.

Lot of truth there.

NIL has legalized payments that were already being made.

But there’s a lot of businesses participating in NIL now that did not give under the table money before.

I don't know if I'd want to pay even the low end of that, despite what I said above.

I mean 3 to 5mil is crazy for one season from an 18 year old, especially if they aren't under any sort of contract.

If this is how its going to be eith the top15 or so recruits.. maybe its better to go give $1mil to five of the top portal guys.
Don’t even know if that figure is real, and to entertain it, UK must have it. Besides, I’m not paying it!

Let's welcome him wholeheartedly. He would be awesome to have play for us and Coach Pope ! Let's get that win as well. Show him how much he would mean to our team and fans and I can't imagine him going anywhere else. Unless he gets an offer for billions. I could understand going somewhere else, but only IF .... :D

If he goes to Duke he will probably stay 6 years

Nope. Solid pass. Have we learned nothing? I'm sorry, but I just don't see you getting a $4M return from a skinny kid who's never been on a college court.

The thing with all this booster money is that it's coming out of someone's pocket. You screw that up a couple times and those folks put their wallets back in their pockets. I'd rather put the money in the portal and gamble on multiple 4 stars or something. We need guys trying to get paid. Not millionaires making a pit stop.

I'll take another Brandon Garrison and be good to go

Seriously.. how could you look at what Pope is doing, with the chance to be THE PF next year that this offense can run through.. along with a good paycheck.. and want to go elsewhere? Go be the 3rd PF on a Duke team that's clearly undercoached? UNC to play on a sinking ship?
Well his other top choice is Louisville, and by the sounds of it they have a good shot to get him if he turns down Duke

I’m not seeing UK listed with many high school recruits 25 or 26 class, I’m starting to think Pope is all in on the portal which is just as big a gamble

Same said that about Kevin Durant.
For every Durant there are 30 guys that size that couldn't hack it. If he was staying more than a year I would feel differently as he could avail himself of college level strength and conditioning program but that's not going to happen. The kind of money he wants could probably get us 2 excellent, proven players in the portal.

Randle was top 3 and weighed at least 30 more pounds didn’t he? Randle physically was way bigger. Ament is built like BJ Boston
If Randle didn’t have T-Rex arms that limit his defensive effectiveness he would have been one of the greats. Put Sam Perkins arms on him with his current strength and we probably win the championship. I still can’t forget the second half of that Michigan St. game where he just played bully ball.

There will be fewer transfers this offseason than in previous ones since there will be no more 5th years (as of now) and with that college basketball is about to get much younger.

As a symptom of no more 5th years, a lot of teams who have built their rosters around older experienced players from portal are about to have a lot of empty spots to fill. Think about these teams that are losing 50% or more of production and don't have big high school recruiting classes coming in. Auburn, Louisville, Tennessee, Kansas, Memphis, Texas A&M, list goes on and on. These schools are going to be going after a lot of the same guys. $ value is going to be driven up because of high demand. Ament is going to be more talented than probably almost any portal entry and will be able to make an impact on day 1 if used correctly. Go ahead and grab him and worry about getting 2-3 impact portal guys versus 4-5.

With our roster construction I like this framework:

5 returners (including leading scorer and another who played big minutes)
4 high level freshman
3 or 4 new transfers / international players

Healthy mix of all 3 that gives you some continuity, experience, and high end talent.

Maybe I’m in the minority but if Pope thinks he’s worth it, I say open the wallet. I’d love to see a top 5 freshman surrounded by transfers.

Demarcus Cousins
MKG
Brandon Knight
Julius Randle
Andrew Harrison
KAT
De’Aaron Fox
Malik Monk
Bam Adebayo
Jamal Murray

Those were all guys ranked top 5 coming out of hs that weren’t #1. You’ll get a couple clunkers like Skal and Boston on occasion but more often than not, these guys are MAJOR contributors. And these guys posted above did what they did on freshman dominated teams. How valuable would a guy like Monk or MKG be on this year’s team?

Don’t misunderstand me, I don’t want to go back to Cal’s way of freshman reliance, but I think getting a top level athlete to go with your mature upperclassmen can be a huge boost.

Some are sour on all one and done players but there is no way you pass on a Dybantsa, Peterson , or Boozer if they wanted to come to your school .

And at this point there is no guarantee that a guy you yet out of the portal will start at
Nate ament is a guy you take the gamble on for sure. Just get a physical front court guy to pair with him, and let ament be Kd of college
