Nate Ament announces his top 5 and will announce college destination in April 1st

As long as we recognize that this statement/notion doesn't always work.. and it may cause a player to take his talents elsewhere. And I can't really blame them. What exactly did this incoming freshman do to earn 4x what I make despite me actually being a proven player? Lets be real, if this happened to any of us in our careers, we'd be pissed. So I do think you have to sort of tread carefully here. It's one thing if the guy next to you was an AA and therefore makes more money.. it's another thing if it's an 18-year old who turns out to suck but is collecting a huge pay day.

And if that happens word WILL get out and it will be that much more difficult to get talented transfers to come here.

Duke, Lou, UK, Arkansas and Tennessee

In addition, On3’s Joe Tipton reports that Ament is planning to make his college choice at the McDonald’s All-American Game, which happens April 1st.
Nice to see you were able to post a thread ,about ament and not have it hijacked by a moderator and condensed down to the other ament thread on the board . Thanks for the info Kentucky has a shot but Arkansas and the chicken man may have the last word we shall see

I’m sure it goes on at all the top schools and they keep reloading on five star freshman and top transfers. As coach you have to figure it out and make it work

I was going to mention Peterson but couldn’t remember his name , lol .
🤣. I thought I was the only one struggling to remember people’s names. Peterson looks special. He should have a good year. However, Ament led his team in a W over Peterson’s team. Ament looked like that guy where the light switch got turned on. He was using drive and dish, threes, defense, rebounding and 3 pt shooting. It was a very well rounded game. I think he is going to rival Peterson and Boozer at the collegiate level. The key is that he needs to play mostly SF.

One thing I’m confident of is Pope isn’t running around recklessly throwing money at players just to try to win a bidding war. I’m sure he wants Ament, but he’s ultimately going to make efficient use of his NIL budget.

Mods, are you going to let these condescending little Duke fans troll our message board?

It's clear what this clown is trying to do.

Hit the road, Dukie. Go watch some game film of Zion and RJ losing in the Elite Eight or Williams missing free throws in K's farewell game against UNC.
I went to the Duke board about 10 years ago and got banned immediately. They some fragile little pricks.

Is it just me or does this kid have a fairly respectable Screech thing going on?

Yeah that's the other thing.. how does the rest of the team feel that an unproven freshman is making 5 million, and they.. guys who might have actually won something in college.. are making 20% of that.

Idk, it's just starting to be too risky. A ton of money, for an unproven freshman, undersized in college, who just wants to go to the NBA, and if things don't work for him, he can transfer at will. That is taking on a ton of risk, risk that wouldn't really be as bad for a junior transfer.
Yep, look no further than Boogie Fland for Arkansas. Arkansas has played much better without him. Cal recruited over Wagner who already had a surrounding cast in Theiro and Big Z. That didn't work out so well.

It’s weird because Fland was their best player but the pieces didn’t fit. I think it’s because Cal like usual didn’t use his strengths and put his draft stock ahead of what makes them win.

Matt jones stated yesterday he felt really good about Kentucky and nate ament, until Arkansas appeared on his list . He stated that Kentucky overwhelmingly had more nil money than all the other schools except for Arkansas and the chicken man . "FOR WHAT ITS WORTH"

It isn’t so much Fland as it is locking in for the Kentucky game. Their defense since that game compared to before has been night and day. They got down in a stance and defended in a way Cal hasn’t been able to get his teams to defend in many many years and they've kept it up.

Yeah that is true.

Honestly I don’t mind the sound of that at all. That would spell fewer big spenders in the transfer portal.

I was under the impression they were losing most of their current team.
Hepburn, Edwards, Smith, ?

Louisville is losing a lot, but they have 4 players redshirting this year due to injury. Kasean Pryor, Koren Johnson from Washington, Aly Khalifa from BYU, and Kobe Rodgers, one of Kelsey's guys from C of C. They bring back just two from this years' rotation in starting C James Scott and Rooths. They have the German PF and McD AA PG Brown Jr. coming in as freshmen as well. It's a solid roster, probably preseason top 15 as of now., with a giant hole at the wing/forward spot.

how does Duke continually sign kids that play the same position every year
can't those kids see they are going to have limited minutes

They lost 7 to transfer from last years' team and a couple went pro and a couple ran out of eligibility.

They will probably lose Knueppel, Flagg, Maluach, and Proctor to the draft. Maybe Evans as well. They lose James, Sheffield, and Gillis to eligibility. Probably a couple leave to transfer. If Ament goes there, maybe they lose one of their other freshmen commits that are lower ranked.

Matt Jones has no knowledge how much Louisville, TN, Duke, or even UK has for NIL. If he knows how much every school has, there would be 17 others that would know or have the same info. If this was true, every one of them in the know folks could not wait two seconds to be "the First" to leak the info to the public. That would be their bragging right to be first. I be there are folks that are saying they feel good about Duke, ARK, Lou, and hell even TN.

I really don’t care where any one and done freshman goes. I would much rather spend limited dollars on jr ,sr and grad transfers . That’s who wins NCAA these days . And that’s all I care about .
Yes I would like to beat UL and Tenn every year . But other than that all time , talent and treasure should have one goal . Winning number 9. Then 10 then 11 etc.

Actually all the recent champions have had high draft picks.

Louisville got hammered by the injury bug, but at least it was early. Rodgers and Khalifa came to redshirt, but by all accounts, Pryor and Johnson were 2 of the best 4 players on the roster, and both starters. They were able to adjust and change the style around somewhat, but losing that much expected scoring was a hit. And Johnson was supposed to slide over to PG when Hepburn was getting rest. I don’t think Johnson will be back next season, but Pryor should be. With Pryor, Khalifa, Rooths and Scott, they should be very formidable in the frontcourt, it’s the other spots with big question marks. I guess whoever ends up with Ament has a plug and play wing player. This recruitment seems to have been a lot about the money. The kid loves Louisville and Duke, but there are reports that his agent just keeps going back to schools asking for more NIL, which I guess is his job. Sounds like if it’s school based the kid will pick Duke or Louisville. UK popped in a bit late with a lot of ground to make up. If it’s money based it will be Arkansas. From what I understand Duke, UL and UK are all offering similar money and taking more of a hard stand on no more NIL.

Khalifa doesn’t look like the same player physique wise under Kelsey. As fast as Pope at BYU claimed they played it’s wonder Khalifa could get up and down the court.

Arkansas would hurt the least of his finalists. Only because we know he won’t accomplish anything his one year in college.
Absolutely agree. Program has done barely anything in its history and Cal almost always underperforms these days. If Ament doesn’t wear our shade of blue, I hope he calls the hogs with chicken grease on his hands.

The games changing fellas. A top recruit just doesn't hold weight anymore, that was part of the reason why Cal failed the last few years in March.

The best transfers > Mcdonalds All Americans

Unless the kids is like Zion, Cooper Flagg, Anthony Davis, John Wall.....they just don't do as well as a seasoned kid from Drexel or somewhere small.
