These are various comments from coaches and a scout at the Army All-American Bowl practice about Kentucky's three All-American recruits (2 OL and 1 MLB'er) for next year.
"I've really liked #BBN OL commits Landon Young and Drake Jackson. My top 2 OL today."
"Nice INT by @KashDaniel15. Showed a nice vert in grabbing the ball at its peak. Headed to #Kentucky."
"There may not be a better looking prospect on either team." speaking of Kentucky OT Landon Young.
The one thing Stoops has been consistent about is recruiting better than what Kentucky has ever before. Even after this past season recruiting is at the highest level ever. Four All-Americans in one class is unheard of at Kentucky. Getting rid of the dumb ass Dawson was imperative and this staff just seems more professional. More substance less glitter. Although I do have to admit Gran looks to be 20 years younger than his actual age.
My theory is when Stoops was being vetted for the Kentucky job he was interviewed by Tim Couch (documented fact) and Couch more-or-less let Stoops know hiring an "Air Raid" OC would make or break his chances of being hired at Kentucky. Couch has been vocal about Kentucky being an Air Raid school, trouble is the Air Raid was effective when he was running it at Kentucky because nobody had seen it before. Today that is not the case and there is only one school that runs the true Air Raid these days. Prime example: Neal Brown played with Couch and runs a modified Air Raid offense.
Now after two Air Raid OC's Stoops is at the point where he is saying, "OK Kentucky lets try it my way." I personally think this (hiring these last two offensive coaches who do not run an Air Raid) is the best move Stoops has made to date and believe it would have been a big difference maker if it had happened last year instead of Dawson the second Air Raid disciple. It may be hard for some folk to admit this but getting advice from people associated with the Kentucky football program may not be the best of ideas!
Couple this with what appears to be three years of roster upgrades with All-American recruits coming in and it's hard to not take notice of what is going on giving UK football fans valid reasons to see some lagging indicators that Kentucky is witnessing improvement steadily dripping into the program.
When asked about his possible interest in the Kentucky position Jeff Brohmn at WKU recently said it would take him at least six years to completely turn around the Kentucky program. Ironic WKU just lost their QB after his sixth year of college ball. Stoops does seem to be ahead of that schedule and has decided if he is going down it won't be before he does it his way. Smart move I believe.
