I like UCONN Hurley. I would take him. Matt Margenthaler is a proven division 2 coach. There are a ton of guys that can take over the job. Some would have issues like a D2 coach others would do the Sutton / Gillispie drink your troubles away and burn out quickly and never do much of anything. Hurley at Uconn would be able to come in here and handle the pressure and do a good job for a very long time without a lifetime contract.

Whom they "instinctively trust". I mean what kind of word salad is that around a supposed source?

"The source is unproven, but our gut says to trust them. Yeah, I'll run with that on my TWEETER."
It sounds verifiable on social media. So as long as it’s long winded, it seems credible to the mindless drones who frequent those pages.

I can’t believe there was a period of time where people wanted him to coach here myself included
I don’t think he’s leaving but he just didn’t get a good mix of transfers , it felt like they just put out offers and landed everyone over the summer. I don’t know if he will be consistently a good coach or not but he looked pretty good for a couple years.

Zero chance Dan Hurley leave UConn. In the landscape of modern college basketball (and before you jump down my throat I said modern college basketball, not the entire history of both programs) it's a lateral move. He's a northeast guy with family ties to the northeast. His dad's an NYC metro area high school coaching legend. He's won a title at UConn and has their program absolutely humming right now.

Why throw that away to try to start over at a place where you're on the hot seat after one down year? Like it or not, the expectations here are a detriment to attracting coaches.

The hope there is that he comes up short this year, and that might cause him to think it was something with Uconn holding him back, that he needs to go to a blue blood to have the best chance at winning. He's also only making about $5mil. I'd throw $11mil at him tomorrow and make him turn down a kings ransom.

But if he wins this year? Back to back? He's not leaving.

There has to be a number he would take. And for sure I’d offer more than what Cal is getting.

If John Pelphrey and Mike Anderson get multiple years, I think Musselman is allowed at least one down year.
Anderson never had a year quite this bad though, but he never had the tournament success Muss has had either.

It’s gotta be tough evaluating who to take in the portal when there are tons of players out there. In hindsight Arkansas passed on BJ Mack which was a mistake, and Ron Holland choosing the G League at the last minute hurt too. The thing is Muss will probably need to take 6-8 portal players again next offseason with how many are expected to leave so it’s going to be important to get it right this time.

There was a national CBB radio pundit (Forgot who) on Nick Coffey's show last week basically predicting that he would be the next U6 coach. Been out of the loop for a few days so it may have been mentioned here. My thoughts were great, now I get to see his weirdness year tound. SMH

Pardon me if I’m not inclined to put much credence in a scoop by a twitter handle of no real person (other than “coaching changes”) citing an alleged “unproven source.”

Wait, you're also describing the New York times & Washington Post!

You must've missed the part about "instinctively trust"ing his unproven source? The only question is: will Arky come after Cal?

ONE NCAAT win and ONE SECT win since 2019 is not acceptable at UK no matter who the coach is. Especially one being paid 9 million per year.

One of those years there was not a tournament smart one. You're talking 3 seasons:

1. Covid year...enough said. I've gone over & over the dynamics that made that year so difficult on a young, brand new roster UK team. Other young teams struggled as well but we were not just young bit every face was new.

2. St Peters...wow we got upset. It's not like Coach K/Duke, Self/KU, & Williams/ UNC...we're never upset. We were upset by a team that made it to the Elite 8 winning 2 other games they were not supposed to win. We were also bamged up. Still should've won but realistically we were not positioned to make a deep run with 3 guys at 80%.

3. Last year, we were not very good but did enough to get in. We beat a Providnce team that was laying well & list to a KSU team that had a guard playing out of his mind & another saying very well....lost at the end.

If those 3 seasons honestly calls for a coach who's been to 6 final 4's with 3 different schools, 4 of those at UK & a national championship to leave the school...It only proves how stupid some UK fans are.

The previous 4 seasons were:
-elite 8
-sweet 16
-elite 8
-no tournament

I swear that we have the most weak minded, shallow, emotional driven fans on the planet.

BTW, If Cal were not here we would not have the team that we have this year.

All those NBA players and ONE NC is underachieving. Cal’s done the least with the most of any coach in history.
If he couldn’t win it with the 2015 team, he’s not winning it with this one.

I want to get back to going to FF’s and competing for SEC Championships and NC’s. It’s never going to happen with Cal again. It’s past time for him to retire.

When you start accepting mediocrity at a blueblood you will turn into Indiana before you know it,
I’m tired of the next year excuses.
After we get knocked out the first weekend of the NCAAT again this season, Cal needs to hit the road.

He's won more with young talent at UK than any coach in the country has with young talent.

Just a very shallow comment like a typical UK fan: "All that NBA talent & only 4 final 4's& won championship."

You fail to think through it and see that John Calipari teams basically had that success with brand new rosters each year. No other coach has been able to do it.

At umass and Memphis he did not have a bunch of star NBA rosters. He was doing it with top 150 recruits and juco players and threw in a good recruit like a Rose or a Tyreke Evans.

All of these fools chasing the dragon. A couple years of success is just a blip on the timeline of a true blue blood.
