Murdaugh murder trial in South Carolina

In what should have been a slam dunk case is probably going to wind up in a hung jury as the prosecution isn't very effective on cross.

For this family to keep getting away with all this stuff is sickening. It's that culture of entitlement where the rules are for everyone else that galls me.
My wife is totally into this trial and is so excited to give me the summary of the day’s events when I get home from work.

I totally agree with you and the other posters on this thread that the Murdaughs (especially Alex) are just sh!tty people all the way around.

From a great distance away, he certainly appears guilty to me, but I won’t be surprised if he doesn’t get away with it due to a hung jury or whatnot. It certainly appears the state has a slam dunk case for all of his financial crimes…. Surely he can’t get away with what he did to his clients, law partners, etc????

Yeah, everyone is kind of saying the prosecution left some holes out there and that a hung jury is on the way. Will make me sick if it does. Real scumballs that not only got away with everything for years but never even got cuffed. Walked away time after time because of their family name and what it means in that community.

Lot of these guys posting in here know a lot more about the actual trial than me. I was late to this and my introduction was the Netflix 2 part series which was jaw dropping.

Guessing they made sure the jury hadn’t seen the doc? Didn’t the jury selection process go for weeks?

The blood splatters on his shirt being consistent with a close range shooting is pretty damning.
I think evidence came out that the blood on the shirt could have been or was animal blood. I can’t remember which. Not that I think he’s innocent, it just seems like something wasn’t as clear on the shirt as prosecutors tried to portray?

If he was so heartbroken and distraught over the loss of his family, wonder why he didn't come forward in all the months afterward to tell authorities the truth, that he was at the kennel up until 8:45, just a few minutes before they were murdered? Given he was the last person to see them alive, that is a little fact that I am sure the cops would have like to have known before he admitted it on the witness stand for the first time on Thursday.

Also, the caregiver for his parents testified that he called her a few days later to "remind her" that he had visited his parents for an hour or so, but in reality just popped in for a few minutes. The call was so strange given the circumstances that she called her brother to talk about it. Then, he asked the housekeeper to "remember" that he had been wearing a particular set of clothes the night of the murders, which is not what he was wearing at all, according to her testimony.

It is a BS story full of holes.

I think Paul’s cell phone catching Alex’s voice minutes before the murders will be what gets him convicted. If I am on the jury there is no way I could hear that evidence and think he had nothing to do with it. Still not sure if he pulled the trigger, but if he did not technically kill them he knows who did. Guy is a master manipulator who is a ruthless criminal with a law degree and you can bet the jury will be reminded of that when considering his testimony. He could be innocent but his past actions of stealing money, drug use and all the other misdeeds are coming back to haunt him.

Listening to one of the legal/lawyer shows following this trial they thought the balance of calls they were receiving probably means this is going to be a hung jury. All they need is one.

Whether or not he is retried would depend on what the vote was, 10 to 2 for conviction or 11 to 1 means they'll probably retry. If it's 7-5 or something like that they probably won't. As we've all said before he's never getting out of jail anyway

Well the jury has it. What I heard of the prosecutor's closing was very unimpressive. Nothing of substance at all in the part they played so I hope all they didn't play was very, very good.

There have been several people that have defied conventional wisdom and testified in a way that helped themselves big time. This nut was very good on the stand and Rittenhouse was nothing short of spectacular and probably got himself acquitted, I remember the Menendez brothers being very effective on the stand. Always risky but I be damned if some people can't pull it off and this guy just may have edged out a mistrial. We'll see. Very surprised the jury wanted to go directly to deliberations with no lunch break when they got back from their field trip.

I don’t think it plays well for murdaugh myself, but I could certainly be wrong. The prosecution proved he was there when it happened after lying about it - the rest wouldn’t matter much to me if I was on the jury. He either did it or knows who did.

He knows what happened, of that I have no doubt. Whether he pulled the trigger, well I’m not so sure and I just can’t wrap my head around the idea. I do think that the jury probably hates him more than they did before this thing started, what with the lying and stealing. That said, I “think” it will be a hung jury.

Heck they let OJ go free

OJ didn't take the stand, though. These guys that get up there and try, you know they were cautioned not to by their defense as they never want you to testify, but some people can get up there and do a pretty good job of it.

Clearly this guy is guilty, but he has a shot at a mistrial. Won't do him much good as they will surely retry him until they get him. He's made them all look foolish for far too long for them not to keep trying to convict him. Eventually he just won't be that effective of a witness once they figure out how to go at him.

Don't think the jury has it yet defense argument this morning then prosecution gets a short rebuttal. Jury should get it this afternoon I think. But never tried a criminal case so I could be wrong on the procedure

I don’t see where murdaugh has made the prosecution look foolish at all, they caught him with his britches down and actually got him to testify as a last ditch effort to save himself where he actually had to say he lied to the police about his whereabouts. What am I missing?

If someone else did it, this asshole would have already sold them down the river.

Judge just kicked a juror off the panel for speaking to at least three persons about the trial. He has done a good job in this case, which would be extraordinarily difficult to preside over.

I think they now do not have any alternates left. They need to wrap this up ASAP today and get the jury into their deliberations.

Nancy Grace (LOL) said there was a lumberjack sitting on the back row of the jury that wouldn’t even look at the defense Lawyer yesterday, so there’s one.

No, they have 13, still have one, but it will go to the jury today

Not sure what is going on with the television coverage. I could swear they said the prosecution concluded and the case went to the jury. I must have misunderstood what they were reporting.

Could very well be. I haven't been following this one closely like I have some of the others. Snippets here and there. I misunderstood that the case went to the jury yesterday already so I am o'fer this week.

How did he benefit from the murders?
He didn’t and no idea why he thought killing them would magically make his problems go away. Killers generally do not think logically. The guy is nuts. Another example on when thinking you can outsmart everyone goes wrong.

Only way to make sense out of his actions was he killed them and then planned on killing himself but chickened out.

Almost all the talking heads were expecting a hung jury and they convicted the guy in 3 hours. They surely hated his guts. It takes much more time to just go over the evidence and be thorough, but they pretty much were ready to drop the hammer on him as soon as they went into the room.

I am curious what the juror's position was that was dismissed from the case. Maybe they zapped the one that would have hung the jury. Who knows.

Would he not get life insurance from their deaths? Obviously not if he was the one convicted of it but he probably thought he would get away with it. I mean his housekeeper dies mysteriously after he had taken a life insurance policy out on her and he also sued his homeowners insurance on behalf of the family but kept all of that money as well. The guy proved he will do anything for money.

The gem of the day begins at 1:55. OJ starts bitching about his prison sentence he received "for stealing my own stuff."

OJ isn't concerned with the murders. He's more concerned about how much time Murdaugh will get for for the financial crimes.

I think if the vid went a little longer he would have rolled with Chris Rock "But, I understand."

OJ was a guilty man that got framed. Must be excruciating to know exactly how he did the crime thus also know exactly where the cops added a little in. The socks on the floor were the most damning example IMO of Vannatter walking around the crime scene with a vial of OJ's blood.

The socks had stains that transferred directly from one side to the other meaning the blood was put on them while they lay there. Blood doesn't transfer like that if it splatters onto the sock while you're stabbing someone to death and your is a leg in it, Vannatter. You got caught adding a little to the kitty.
