Mark Pope, Kentucky in holding pattern until House settlement on April 7

If we don't have the funds, come out and say it. So this precious fanbase can gather a better understanding and have gracious for what Pope is dealing with upfront. Not we are holding pattern.

Only pattern we are holding. Is watching other schools get our prospects. And complaining this, that. When we all know it's a $ thing. We are broke. Thank you Cal.

Do you really believe the University will signoff on Pope disclosing that type of information? How many other universities are you aware of that share that type of information with its fanbase. I am amazed that some fans think that simply being a fan somehow gives them a right to know the inner workings of UK's athletic department.

Well isn't that apart of the ruling. "Reporting anything above $600?

UK nor any other university is likely to disclose their NIL budget. Making this information public would allow players and their handlers to use it to their advantage. Players would use this information to decide how much they think universities should be able to pay them.

The big time programs seam to be hokding tight for the most part. Looks like 2nd and 3rd tier programs are blowing their load early

What happens if the ruling places a retroactive salary cap on universities? It could create a situation that requires universities to have to rescind NIL offers to get to or under the cap. So, some players who appear signed may not remain signed by particular universities.

Y'all need some media literacy. There's a huge difference between an opinion piece and a fact based news article. This is an opinion piece with Pilgrim's thoughts on Pope quotes. Headlines also get you to click on an article, they are often misleading or flat out untrue.

The "holding pattern" phrase is something the editor chose to use as the headline. Nowhere in the quotes from Pope were those words used. This does not mean that we won't be signing any more portal guys until after the settlement. We already have one signed, if the program was truly in a holding pattern that wouldn't have happened.

What the holding pattern was referring to was:
  • If and when to bring a GM type role into the program
  • How many scholarships teams will be allowed to have next year
  • If walk ons will be used in the future.
Anything other than that was just BS added by Pilgrim to make the article as long as possible.
Won't it clarify revenue sharing as well? Being in the SEC is going to add a lot of money to its members. Also determines the overall total of NIL we have to work with. But I did hear we wouldn't know about revenue sharing until June so I'm probably off base.

For recruiting? Because is that’s what you got out of it you actually can’t read.
Oh, he can read just as well he can try to get others on his complaint bandwagon. He is nothing more than a poser who is trying to cause trouble.

Those who are complaining are the ones who have Cal withdrawal. If we had won the NC, these same folks would still find something to accuse Pope of not doing well.
Not fair!

You are just hand waiving the perpetually aggrieved with this.

That’s strange! Every other program seems to be doing the exact opposite! Maybe when the ruling comes down that players have a “cap” of some sort to abide by, that will entice the real portal “superstars” to enter! Yeah, that’s what they are waiting for, a chance to potentially make less money!
Its impossible to cap NIL.

Per KSR
In the current Wild Wild West of recruiting, transparency and guardrails are coming — assuming the settlement is approved, as expected. Until then, though, Mark Pope feels his hands are tied in some areas no matter how strong a feel he has for what’s coming.
That’s impacting a lot of his day-to-day in terms of roster management and the NIL hurdles that pop up in every discussion. We’ll start big-picture and Pope’s desire to add a general manager, the way other high-profile programs have to navigate what has become free agency in college basketball with incoming and outgoing pieces while battling the draft and high school targets.
They’re recruiting now, but much-needed clarity is potentially a week away.

“We were deep in the portal last week, we will be this week and for the next weeks and months to come,” he said. “There’s even more chaos because this settlement is pending out there and that’ll change the way we’re allowed to work in the portal. There’s chaos and uncertainty and all the things.

Walk-ons are there for a specific reason. GPA. They help satisfy other federal requirements. Getting rid of walkons may be fools gold.

I want to agree, I seriously do. But they are players from mid-majors. Notice are glaring weaknesses from last year's team. Talent ceiling.
you are not going to get superstars in the portal. That is still about recruiting.

Just another excuse man I just wish we would get an AD and coach in here that would have a set!!!!! These excuse makers are just getting old to be honest!
I'm not sure what you want Pope to do. He isn't king of UK basketball. He has many people to answer to and it sounds like you want him to go rogue or something. What do you think would be the outcome of that behavior?

Do you not know that uk has a compliance department? They are the ones who make sure UK athletics are in line with the NCAA hoops and hurdles. And are apparently being overly cautious in regards to the April 7th hearing
Of course I know about them and what they do. Once rules are in place they make sure we stay within the scope of the rules.

Thats my question. What rule would they be holding things up with? No one is revenue sharing yet so I'll ask again, compliance with what?

Just wanted to bring this back up to highlight how some of our posters actually can't read. Like some of you thought we were in a recruiting holding pattern and argued it. Stay in school folks.

All chest puffing, flexn. All cause we landed mo. Great get. But article does say "hands are tied" in certain aspects. All relating to what is read. The theme wasn't separated, it was a single piece of article. Some just blow my mind, they just love to comeback to old threads. To puff chest. Still are not correct. Article was the article. And mo is mo.
