I’m sick of the SEC refs. This is why most SEC teams flame out early in the NCAAT because they aren’t allowed to play thug ball.

Yes... in my Rockford's Late Night Slow Mo Review Session I see Ogelsby raise his right had to call the foul and then lowered it and watch OK run away with the ball. And ogelsby went to call the foul here and then just changed his mind
... and if we were ahead by SIX points that's an easy foul call.On the Carr foul in the original post: One of the refs is right by that part of the play. He steps towards the ball and raises his hand as if he's about to make a call.
Then Fears comes away with the ball, and he swallows his whistle.
Amazing.Did they review the play that required Chandler to leave the game due to blood streaming down his face? I don’t think they did. Not saying it was a flagrant but they review damn near everything and when there is obvious evidence of a shot to the head, crickets.
They didn't review it, and it absolutely was flagrant. I'm not saying it was intentional but dude dragged his elbow from Chandler's cheek across his eye to his forehead. We called called from a flagrant because Butler's hand inadvertently touched someone who was behind him.Did they review the play that required Chandler to leave the game due to blood streaming down his face? The technical terms used by all coaches in that situation is "He f****d up"Actually, there was no reason to call a TO. He looked over and THOUGHT he saw an open man. Oklahoma player was in the perfect position to intercept the pass. I don't think Williams saw him until it was too late.
A result of gambling being pushed relentlessly in every sport, amateur and pro, and referees are just as subject, perhaps more so, than the the betting public, as they can and do influence the score. Pete Rose was banned for betting on his team to win, and now they push everyone to bet ignoring the past betting scandals even in pro basketball referees. Not going to end well, but it is all about the money, nothing else.the refs influence the game on purpose with a goal in mind, it's quite obvious most of the time. I don't know why the media or sec doesn't make a bigger focus on this corruption that's obvious other than the fact they just don't have enough refs to do the job. They do game after game and fly all over cross country one day to the next. They aren't incompetent, they know exactly what they are doing with a goal in mind to push a few points one direction or the other.
I auto-ignore every single poster who complains that our team cost them money. They are contributing to the demise of the only sport I care about and I just don't want to see it.A result of gambling being pushed relentlessly in every sport, amateur and pro, and referees are just as subject, perhaps more so, than the the betting public, as they can and do influence the score. One of my pet peeves with coaches is not telling their players to do this instead of just obviously grabbing someone. Really gets on my nerves when you have fouls to give and they just reach out and basically intentionally foul a player instead of going after the ball. Don't just waste the foul, try and get the ball. You never know when an official will just not call the foul. When you are behind in the waning seconds of a game ... THAT'S how you play defense !!!!
You GO GET THE DAMN BALL !!!!
If you foul, that's okay, because you cannot let the clock run without a chance at the ball.
If you foul, you make them hit the free throws and still have a chance to win.
Too often, teams just try to simply foul instead of TRYING TO GET THE DAMN BASKETBALL !!!
1) You might come up with the ball, as the opponent is surprised at what you're doing ... he anticipates your AUTOMATIC FOULING and then relaxes in his possession, thinking he'll be going to the free-throw line.
2) SOMETIMES, like in this case, you will actually some up with the basketball, without fouling ... which is your goal !!!
3) Most all the time, if it is a sincere attempt at trying to get the ball or force a jump ball, there is no INTENTIONAL foul ever called.
The referee swallowed the whistle in this situation, but this is still good defense.
Late in games, when you need to get the ball and score ... GO GET THE DAMN BASKETALL !!
It is amazing how many times in late-game, come-from-behind situations, teams simply play the foul them defense, without making an aggressive attempt to actually get the basketball. Sometimes ... you surprise the ball-handler and actually come up with the ball and head the other way !!!
That was more corruption than incompetence.Just complete and utter incompetence.
Not only the "no call" on the shot Chandler took to the head. But blood pouring from his face wasn't enough for them to go to the monitor and take a look at it. WTF!!!Getting violently thrown to the ground on a “common foul” too. And Chandler getting his eye busted open like Rocky on a shot attempt that resulted in a no call. Then Oweh barely taking a guys chest not affecting anything gets whistled. They tried desperately to make Williams elbow a flagrant when he was just going up and trying to get his shot off. Ridiculous.
That pissed me off…as a ref they know Oklahoma is looking to foul and to swallow whistle was absurd
Uh that is not defense. When you are behind in the waning seconds of a game ... THAT'S how you play defense !!!!

Even if you think the rule should be changed to align with the NBA rule in that scenario(I do), that is not the college rule and it's not even debatable that he took an extra step before going into his shooting motion.1. They fouled us on 2 plays and the refs ignored it.
2. That continuation was a joke.
3. Williams bad pass allowed for the refs to start hard-core cheating. As a senior he has to call timeout there or something.
The refs clearly paid the primary role in UK almost losing last night. A foul is a foul no matter time n game.
Yeah J. Williams was just talking about the absurd grabbing and holding off cutters and moving screens he's seen today and how that didn't fly in the NCAA tournament. I hate to agree with him but when you're right you're right.I’m sick of the SEC refs. This is why most SEC teams flame out early in the NCAAT because they aren’t allowed to play thug ball.
Could have been using the "Vegas Step" there - in conjunction with the recovery-Euro-sprint ...Even if you think the rule should be changed to align with the NBA rule in that scenario(I do), that is not the college rule and it's not even debatable that he took an extra step before going into his shooting motion.
Yes, amazing if you watch the replay the guy's hand hit Carr on the head....and then body slammed him for good measure. Incredible. Also let's not forget that the takedown of Carr earlier would have been a flagrant 2 foul if Carr had been the defender.
Jay Williams "worries" about the SEC. Hahahaha! He's not worried, he's hoping that's exactly what happens.Jay Williams just said he worries about the SEC in the NCAAT because there’s too much grabbing and they will call the fouls.
One of the few times I’ve ever agreed with him.
It amazes me how hard it is for people to keep politics out of their brains when even talking about sports. Just amazing. It's time for Elon to get involved and take out the trash. 😁
Ogelsrat was right there and like you said, he was about to call the foul but changed his mind because of course the ball was taken away. Here it is live. Still amazed by it. Oklahoma is literally TRYING to foul in this situation. Oglesby even raises his hand to call the foul
It was an innocuous little quip.It amazes me how hard it is for people to keep politics out of their brains when even talking about sports. Just amazing.
And yes, trying to make a "funny" using an analogy of a person currently doing something in politics or government - that's no different than just turning a sports discussion into one about politics.
