I wasn’t going to say it but wth. Chocolate long john from Thornton’s is pretty damn good. Some guy brings in Jeff’s apple fritters that are great. I think it’s in Jeffersonville.

Everything from Amon's is great. Thankful I get t introduced to it by marrying a woman from Somerset.
Chocolate Angel (no Willy, not that kind) from The Donut Hole on the gulf coast.
Their actual food is pretty good but the savvy vet walks right past the 3 hour wait line (the Rosemary are one is particularly brutal) to the donut counter and loads up & gets the hell out of there.
Btw @UK_Dallas is not blasphemous, Thornton’s donuts aren’t bad at all in a pinch.

He was calling me a blasphemer for not supporting a Paducah institution, Red's. It's supposedly the inspiration behind Krispy Kreme but they are grease bombs.
I don't do it as often as I used to, but I still occasionally make donuts (fried biscuits) by either taking home made biscuits or canned biscuits, throwing them in crisco, and then covering them in powdered sugar, melted chocolate chips or melted sugar (glaze). It is really easy and you don't have to leave the house.
Slight adjustments but still all pretty damn good. Can't pass up a donut.
1. Magee's - Chocolate glazed are stupid good when they are fresh
2. Spaldings - If they were all served warm they would be # 1, but they leave a funk film when eaten cold
3. North Lime - Best selection and all are delicious
4. Franks - Also fantastic but I have only had them a few times, need to sneak in early to get them fresh, could make a run
5. Doughdaddy's (they were better in the old filling station) - Never as good as the olden days
6. Donut Days - Lost points back in the 80's when they quit glazing the donut before adding the chocolate, still pisses me off
7. Dunkin - Good but not great IMO
8. Krispy Kreme - Might as well eat raw sugar
Reds are the best. Period. Don't think anyone knows for sure the connection, but the guy who started KK was from neighboring Benton. Bought a recipe he used for donuts from a famous French pastry chef in NOLA. Came back home. Started his first shop in Paducah, then Nashville. Several things happened before relocation to Winston-Salem. Krispy Kreme IS a Kentucky product. From the Jax Purchase.
But one of the local beliefs is that the Reds business is actually the business that ended up with the secret recipe purchased from the famous pastry chef in NOLA. That Krispy Kreme uses something much different, less expensive. And if you ever compare the two side-by-side, there is NO comparison. Red's are the greatest glaze donut known to God and man.
Spot on!!..I went to HS with the owner's Jeff and Diane Brown-Green, also Diane's husband Doug..good hard working people. Jeff has been baking since the mid 70's..
