Mr. Harney’s comments

Expected to see some discussion in the game thread but didn’t. What are everyone’s thoughts on his comments?

First, I appreciated his being so complimentary of both Ritter and the Auburn hitter. A good spokesman for the program.

Second, his comments on Mingione seemed to contradict what I had assumed (based on what I’ve read here) about his popularity among players. Is he growing into the position, or is this just an isolated, rare pleased player/parent?

What did he say? I saw maybe a part of the interview, but didn't hear him say anything in particular about Mingione.

He basically said that we had the best pitching coach in the country, and that he was very comfortable with his son playing for a coach with Mingione’s character.
He didn’t necessarily call Ming a great field general, but was very high on his character.

I have no way of knowing one way or the other, but I think you have to take a lot of what's written on message boards with a grain of salt. People can exaggerate or literally make stuff up and we have no way knowing. Also if you have a preconceived opinion about a coach you can easily get caught up in believing a few twitter posts or parent comments represent a broader opinion of the coach than it really does. I generally don't put much stock in rumors and innuendo that are posted on these boards because it's so easy to fabricate or to let a few examples lead you to believe they represent the general view of the coach when it may not be true at all.

Ahh ok.

I don't think Mingione has a poor character or is a bad guy. I have heard that he lays the good guy aww shucks stuff on a little thicker than what is reality, but that doesn't make him of poor character. I think many of his issues stem from poor or no communication with players, especially those that might not be every day players. That's fixable and maybe he's fixed that and it's helped team chemistry. I don't know. Still, I'm not sure anyone would really allege that Mingione is a bad guy. Just more about his coaching and management of his players.

I thought Mr Harney gave a great interview. Was very complimentary of the UK pitching coach and CNM.
I was the of the same impression as jay on CNM reading this board. Obviously the Harneys disagree and think he’s great. Mr Harney stated that his son was a Sr so he didn’t have to say nice things about the coaches.
What is it now 6 of the last 7? Anu said they called a players only meeting a couple weeks ago and they agreed they were much better than they had showed.
Im not in tune enough to decide whether a new HC is in order but apparently not everyone thinks CNM is a bad guy. Have to also say he sure seems like a good guy on the radio.
