Moving picks

That’s funny you post this. I watched the game twice today and noticed we were doing it as well and it wasn’t called either way.
Think they just let it go since it happens so much, unless it is really obvious.

I noticed Illinois doing it to us on almost every play, then I noticed we were getting away with it, too. What's the rule now?
As long as it's called fair both ways I'm fine with it. I did notice it happen to us a few times and I was getting mad until I saw us do it a few times as well. It looked like Garrison threw a good hip into one of their guys for one of Brea's 3's.

It like 3 seconds, they can call it any time they feel like it. You know, I’m actually ok with it to a point because it’s so frequent, but don’t throw a call for it on a team at a critical juncture unless it’s really egregious. Hardly ever do you see a solid stationary screen by the book.

Barnes will make an issue of it with officials prior to game.
Expect a couple calls early.

I hope he does, AND they start calling them b/c Milicic on UT sets multiple illegal screens EVERY TIME down the floor. Several times in the previous UK games, he even fully extended his arms and basically pushed the defender who was trying to get around the screen he was setting.

IF they truly call the illegal screens, the UT bigs will foul out prior to half time.

i disagree with us setting moving screen. for it to be a screen, you have to make contact with the defending player. and we don't make contact.

The one I hate is the guy trotting down the court peeking back and then moving his body into the path of the offensive player bringing the ball down. They act like they are just going to their spot but always seem to be "screening" conveniently in the way of the player with the ball.

Then they'll do that screen and roll where they move into the path of another player and slow down, essentially impeding the movement of that player (e.g., a moving screen of sorts).

Coaches are teaching these quick-hitter "screens" and then additional screening as they move to a new position.

I am glad we decided to reciprocate with those moving screens. The ones that Illinois were setting became egregious toward the end. Dudes were just spreading their arms wide and doing a big clear out. It was crazy.

Pope said he coaches to how the refs are calling the game. He may have said to move a bit in screens when Ill was getting away with it. I noticed it too and I didn't catch us doing it until a bit into the game.

I hate that we have to play like that because how you play shouldn't depend on the ref crew you were assigned.

Part of the "no calls" we're our fault.

Our players need to plow through the moving screen and make it obvious.

Several times, our players just accepted the moving screen or tried to still go around it, instead they need to initiate contact.

No contact + no foul.

Carrying allows dribblers to create so much space - it should be called as the rules dictate, same as clear out blocking in the lane
