Kentucky has now beaten eight top-15 opponents in Mark Pope's first season, tying Indiana (1992-93) and Duke (1978-79) for most in college basketball history.
Toughest SEC in history and Pope delivered marquee wins after marquee wins this season. Only injuries held this team back for a couple more.
I would say the SEC this season is the toughest conference in history, the only one I can think of that comes close is the old big east one season.Toughest SEC in history and Pope delivered marquee wins after marquee wins this season. Only injuries held this team back for a couple more.
I think by the Numbers it's this year's SEC, like the 2007 ACC, and then that Big East year. It's been insane how good this conference has been.I would say the SEC this season is the toughest conference in history, the only one I can think of that comes close is the old big east one season.
Pope keeps surpassing expectations. Most teams would have crumbled after they lost their entire backcourt to injuries.
To me, winning at Tennessee, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Mississippi State were sensational wins.
Just had too many losses. And it's even worse that you have Pearl, Oats, and Gates in our own conference, all of whom are or were doing insanely well (we kinda polished off Gates) today. I mean Mizzou didn't win a single freaking game last season in conference, so, as much as I dislike him, Gates has done great this year (all the more reason I'm glad we beat that ass on the road). Not being up for Coach of the Year is crazy.
I think it’s not out of the realm of possibility to have four SEC teams in the final four. Doubt that will be the case, but there are at least that many final four contenders in the conference.I think by the Numbers it's this year's SEC, like the 2007 ACC, and then that Big East year. Losing 4 of 5 in January took him out of the conversation unfortunately. Not being up for Coach of the Year is crazy.

Pope SHOULD have been in the conversation though.

Injuries and just a couple of clunkers for the Ohio St game and UGA game. Man, I'd kill to have that Clemson game now and maybe not have gotten steamrolled by AU.
And many in the toughest Conference in the NCAA.Kentucky has now beaten eight top-15 opponents in Mark Pope's first season, tying Indiana (1992-93) and Duke (1978-79) for most in college basketball history.
I thought our D would go up, but we gave up a bunch of threes and layups the laat few minutes so we didn't foul, but our defense is greatly improved, it's definitely better than 55th.Up to 12 in kenpom for now but our DEF eff didn't change from 55 to 55
Simply amazing.Kentucky has now beaten eight top-15 opponents in Mark Pope's first season, tying Indiana (1992-93) and Duke (1978-79) for most in college basketball history.
Don’t disagree, just saying he was in a lot of people’s conversations until that stretch.Still think he should at least be in the conversation. I completely understand if there are other coaches with a better resume but you can't tell me he isn't a top 7 coach this year.
Other than a few careless turnovers the only issue I still had was our defensive rebounding could have cost us the game if it was close . We have gotten better but we need to go after those 50/50 balls like your life depends on it GO CATS HUGE HUGE WIN TODAYI thought our D would go up, but we gave up a bunch of threes and layups the laat few minutes so we didn't foul, but our defense is greatly improved, it's definitely better than 55th.
Yeah, we threw the ball away at least 3 times while trying to inbound, a couple were out of a timeout. That's not normal for this team, but they did so many other things well.Other than a few careless turnovers the only issue I still had was our defensive rebounding could have cost us the game if it was close . However, there are still some who don't think Pope is the right man for the job. LolKentucky has now beaten eight top-15 opponents in Mark Pope's first season, tying Indiana (1992-93) and Duke (1978-79) for most in college basketball history.
Chandler is showing why you shouldn’t totally give up on a player. Maybe if Kahlil Whitney had stayed and worked hard he would not be thought of as one of the biggest busts ever here. Instead he quit and tried to go pro for some reason. Most top 15 wins in a regular season in UK history.
We have a tendency to discuss (hyperventilate, second guess, deride) players and coaches when they fail to live up to expectation (desire, fantasy).
Sometimes we talk about these guys as rejects from the island of unwanted toys, with their coach being unwanted toy prime.
In the Kentucky history books now.
Actually pretty remarkable.
We’ve had a bunch do that!Chandler is showing why you shouldn’t totally give up on a player. Maybe if Kahlil Whitney had stayed and worked hard he would not be thought of as one of the biggest busts ever here. Instead he quit and tried to go pro for some reason.
77%And did it with what, something like 70% of our games were without a healthy roster?
That would be maddening if UK wasn't one of them. We've owned the SEC for 100 years and the one year 4 could make the FF UK probably isn't in the mix..I think it’s not out of the realm of possibility to have four SEC teams in the final four. Doubt that will be the case, but there are at least that many final four contenders in the conference.
