More Reeves Updates- this A.M.

I personally would welcome Reeves back before CJ. CJ was horrible all year long.
We shouldn’t rely on any one player . Why would you think that’s the case. That’s the point
its the biggest game of his career bc we lost. But Reeves is the main reason we even made it to the 2nd round. So why isn’t that a big game? He’s a great college player. Averaged over 20ppg his Last 6 games

I get it. I’ve worked in and around college athletics for the past 25 years including running a DI basketball arena, when I oversaw the Palestra in Philadelphia, and over site of a couple athletic facilities in my time at the University of Oregon. So, I know some things that go on. I know Reeves is taking classes at ISU.
I will also note that I don’t think that means he’s not returning. It just might have been easier for him to complete his degree and have a backup plan just in case things didn’t work out with UK.
Yeah, but some people seem to literally despise Reeves, but I bet they would be fine with CJ returning.
KyJeff1 is horrible. "Reeves sucks played at Illinois State" but wants a unproven high school player over a Sr. Proven scorer. Probably the ring leader on the bich bus for having young guys, but has a hard on for a guy who busted his ass last year, so he changes up his stance to back his agenda. Can't make this shit up. Did Reeves do something to him personally ? His reasoning just doesn't make ANY sense. NONE.

Off one year of each player Reeves is a keeper I will take a pass on BJ. I was very disappointed in his play. TC didn’t get to play enough to make a call on him(RIP).

Yeah I dont get the hate hes been getting. Yes...it was a bit annoying how he handled himself with the portal and whatnot...but as a player we need him. Hes the best 3 point shooter we have had since who...Lamb maybe? If this team has a shot at doing anything you have to have a player like Reeves.
I don’t have any inside information, and I’m not privileged to any of the conversations Reeves has had this off-season with UK or other schools. But from the outside looking in, it appears that all Reeves did was put his game on the market, trying to get NBA feedback and the offer of NIL and/or playing time that best matched his value. By doing so, he appears to have generated a counter-offer from UK.
It seems to me that this is exactly the kind of free-market behavior that NIL and the portal now incentivize and will continue to incentivize barring significant changes. Who knows, maybe there’ve been ugly interactions behind the scenes. But until something like that comes to light, I’m not gonna judge or criticize a player for pursuing his best interests. It seems to me that this is the present and near future of CBB, and UK fans should get used to it. It doesn’t make Reeves a bad dude.
Murray and Monk were both better IMO but percentages are about the same with Reeves as those 2.
Murray also had a bad last shooting game at UK like Reeves did last year. I also want to say monk didnt play well against unc until the very end either. It happens.

I don't see too many "trashing" the guy. But don't expect a homecoming party for someone who seemly has been trying to kick Kentucky to the curb since last season.

When was he trying to kick UK to the curb? He is doing nothing but what he considers to be in his best interests which all players do. As much as you would like to think he does, he along with every other college basketball player doesn't care what you and I think...
Now that he decided to come back to college, he needs to max out his NIL potential. To do that, he needs max exposure...will he get the same playing time as last year at UK...

But yes, there is a difference. Oscar's rebounding was consistent game to game, which led to more scoring attempts which was a net positive for the team no matter how his defense was. No Oscar last year = NIT.
Reeves however is a streaky shooter. One day he might be on and when he was, he was a net positive to the team. When he wasn't, he was a net negative.
Secondly, a good amount of Oscar's supposed defensive woes were due to our guards not staying in front of their man. And making a 6'8" 260 pound center decide to let them go or attempt to stop them and pick up fouls. Guess what happens if Oscar fouls out? Guess who one of those guards was? Does that answer your what?
True, but at least CJ had the decency to let us know his plans early and not leave us hanging, unlike Reeves.
But once again, this is Calipari's fault, not Reeves. He left us in this position to be practically begging a player to come back that seemingly doesn't want to be here, with no fallback plan for a shooter.
When is the last time we had a roster that features four players who were all capable of averaging 15 points per game? 2017? Reeves did it last year. Wagner can do it. Edwards can do it. Bradshaw is the big question mark. I see Dillingham more as a guy who gives you 7 to 10 points per game as a fifth option.

Oscar also got so many rebounds because we didn't have shooters.
The majority of Oscars issues were in pick and roll where Oscar couldn't even slow down the guard. The guards were supposed to switch, Oscar just couldn't do his part.

You're right, a better analogy would be holding our program hostage (Thanks Cal).
The minute he realized his professional aspirations weren't going to happen, he should have at least had the decency to tell us he was transferring or staying (the other players did). He still could have negotiated an NIL deal either way.
I get it, Cal has PUT this program in a desperate situation. But i don't get this acting like he is some transcendent player we should so lucky to have him grace us with his presence. If he leaves, I imagine many of the pro-Reeves opinion about this on here will change.
I think Dillingham has the chance to be the best player on the teams if not he will be the second best. He’s going to surprise a lot of people.

Reeves is the exact type of player this board has been begging for for years. He's experienced and can shoot. He had a bad game against KSU, no way to argue that, but he's very important to have next year.

Definitely agree that AR had some off games throuthout the season (K State, UCLA, Mich St) as did ALL of the UK Team (including Cal), but from January 3rd until end of season:
- He scored in double figures 17 out of the last 21 games.
- Averaged 15.9 ppg from 1/3 thru 3/19.
- Averaged 21.0 ppg in SEC ROAD games from 1/3 thru 3/19.

I think Dillingham will surprise folks as well. I think he will be the second best player behind Edwards. I think Edwards can be special!

First, we have no idea what his conversations were with Cal, for all we know, Cal told him to figure out his own NIL and made him feel like UK didn’t need him.
Second, why should we hate a guy that is just trying to make the most money he can? He’s never going to play in the NBA, so he needs to take advantage of his final year in college.
He’s just trying to do what’s best for himself financially. You can’t get mad at anyone for doing that

I think Edwards and Wagner will be the leading scorers. Wagner will have the ball a lot and will be looking to attack. Edwards will be our best overall player.
I think Reeves (if he is back) will be the third leading scorer.
My concern is Reeves thinking he has to shoot it every time he touches it. This won’t be a team that will need him to take 15-20 shots a game.
