More Reeves Updates- this A.M.

But...Reeves was a really good player for us.

Some of you label him "Illinois State" no matter what. But he performed at a Kentucky level. He's a Kentucky player. He scored 37 on the road vs Arkansas.

He has his flaws. But this notion that "he's really just an Illinois State guy" is ridiculous.
All true but he catches a lot of that because he and his people are expecting him to be the feature guy at UK and be pasted on the covers of Wheaties boxes (if reports are true)

It's a testament to the state of the program, when a player like Reeves garners such attention.
What do you mean? He was our best offensive player (especially the last 6 games), minus the last game of course. Why wouldn’t you be excited to get a player back who averaged over 14 a game and 40% from 3. Any program would be excited about that

People on here are so damn weird. Trashing Reeves because he went to Illinois St. and at the same time are pissed that Cal didn't go after random dudes from North Dakota St, Rutgers, etc...
Yeah that literally makes no sense. Who gives a shot what he was ranked out of high school. He’s a proven college player. That’s what matters. Brandon Boston was a highly ranked recruit and he was awful

The one thing I will say is Sisk wasn't guaranteeing anything. I should have stated that in my OP. Just that what he was told was extremely positive and from highly credible sources who he'd worked with in past.

FWIW he wasn't even scheduled for the show today. He joined with that breaking info.
I hope we are not being set up again to be let down later

Reeves is better than any guard transfer that we either kicked the tires on or this board clamored over.

He’s a great piece and exactly what we need. Smh at the negativity.
Agree but I just hope his mind and heart are all in because it certainly doesn’t appear that coming back to Kentucky was his first option.

But even if it’s “enlightening”, what’s it matter?

He’s here for 7 more months, then gone. This is a cold world, cold industry.

He shoulda been laser focused on UK and next season the moment KSU beat us. Instead, he wasted 90 days screwing around and creating ill-will with the fan-base, staff, and likely some of this teammates.

It is what it is. Antonio Reeves is back. Everyone rejoice. He’s a nice player and will certainly contribute, but I don’t believe he’s the SEC difference maker that so many here want him to be.
So........you know what this kid has been doing for the last three months.........he doesn't give squat about the fan base........the sooner you folks understand this the better.........those days are long gone.......we now have a paid farm system for the NBA.......we have a new game..........

It is testament to the state of COLLEGE BASKETBALL. Nothing more.

In case it slipped your attention, about 1,500 players either transferred or looked into the prospect of transferring now that literally anyone has a path to a better deal somewhere else.

Reeves is facing his last year on a team that includes some projected NBA First Round picks -- not my opinion, but draft experts. Edwards and Wagner are both projected lottery picks.

It's hard to blame someone for wondering if they will get a chance to shine behind players like that. Reeves is seeing teammates head for the NBA -- or at least the NBA draft. Like many college basketball players, he has to decide whether to start over with a whole new team or look for a better fit.

If he comes back, then I plan to welcome him back, warts (1-15 v. KSU) and all. If he doesn't it isn't some knock on Kentucky. It's the state of collge basketball and we all have to decide whether to say hell with it and move on or stomach it, and continue to watch.

No they didn’t. He’s a role player. Number 1 problem was defense and he was one of the worst defenders.
We had so many deficiencies last year. Oscar was terrible on defense, but we accepted that because of what he gave us in other areas of the game. Reeves is the same way.

Shooting would have been 1 of our greatest weaknesses if you took him away. His 40% shooting helped that category a lot.

We also didn't have a lot of guys that could just score the ball. He was able to get that floater to some degree.

I don't think he's supposed to be the STAR. But surround him with guys that can create off the dribble and give him more open looks--he can kill teams form 3.

He’s a great addition to this seasons team but if Cal uses him as the “go to player”, relies on him for everything, and plays through him constantly this team will fail.

Defense and handle are issues . Two that’ll likely keep him out of any higher level pro career

If this is true, and he does come back. Just proves that nobody knows a damn thing about ANYTHING. Including the top "analysts" and "crystal ball" crap.

Cal won’t need to. Play Reeves off the others and he will get much better looks. If Reeves comes, this team can spread the floor, and has a much better outlook.

That the state of our program rests in a player the caliber of Reeves says a lot.
Total fail by Calipari.
His caliber?...You mean the second leading scorer on your team possibly coming back?

What a drama queen to even say this. Every major college team is affected by a decision by their second leading scorer. Geez, some people on this board just need to step away from their keyboards...

He's taking summer classes at ISU. That's 100% true. I'm guessing the information about the change in the NIL at UK and/or the lack of NIL options elsewhere, has steered him back to UK.
Wait, are we sure this is true? Are you going off the student roster? If so, that’s not an accurate document, there are students still on there that aren't actually at the school. I don't think it’s updated very often and I don't think they ever took Antonio off it when he went to UK.

But, maybe I missed something, if you don't mind, can.you let me know what you heard?

Don't forget the leader of 12 and 20 north Colorado state or whatever podunk college that one guy went to that ended up at UT.

So we can get excited about a ISU transfer who was unranked out of HS but we can’t get excited for a 3/4 star freshmen who was the leading scorer on OTE……. Lol 😂
One is an experience college player that proved himself in one of the toughest environments there is in college basketball.
The others are dudes that have no idea what it's like to play at this level and most can't handle it their first year.

I don't blame Reeves for shopping. He received a brutal reality check: the NBA is not a fan of his game. Next best option meant maximizing his earnings for the '23-24 season.

If you guys had a chance to perhaps make $50,000 to $100,000 more for a year to play a sport, would you not give it a look?

That said, if it's true that he's returning, this is huge for our chances next year. He'll give Edwards, Dillingham, and Wagner the spacing they'll need to attack the rim.

If we add Cyril to this, the trio of Cyril, Bradshaw, and Onyenso will probably give Calipari enough defensively to do what he needs to do. I would have preferred a stretch four, and the staff failed in that regard, but Cyril+Reeves at this point is better than nothing.

Brandon Boston and Terrence Clarke (RIP) were part of a 9-16 team, but most of BBN would have rejoiced if they had come back for a second year.

You take the talent when you get the chance, and you run with it.

I'll believe he is playing when I see him suited up on the sideline. Meanwhile, everything he has stated suggests to me he doesn't want to be here if he can help it.

Edwards is going to be the horse. Guys like Wagner and Reeves will be needed to draw attention away from Edwards.

Was Reeves one of the leading rebounders in the nation and national player of the year that carried us most of the last 2 years? When Reeves is that I will overlook his lack of defense.
I like how you are assuming the freshmen will be so much better on defense.
