More Reeves Updates- this A.M.

As much as I’d like to be wrong I’m gonna go with my gut and consider him gone. It’s just been too long without news. It doesn’t make sense to me that he hasn’t made an announcement by now if he was coming back to UK. seems like he’s ironing out his leaving plan
UK, if it considers itself above that of the players, should be preparing its own "moving on plan".

Players first + generation Z = a complete disaster

Nobody, especially Cal, should be surprised by this, when you create this stupid culture, you allow this kind of behavior. They’ll take everything you give them, then complain they didn't get more and publically blast you on the way out.

I'm not hearing about this kinda crap happening at any other school.

I will believe anybody else before I believe that David Moseley dude
Yeah he is the click-Baitey dude I have been talking about, I’m pretty sure he just take everything from ant wright and just tries to act likes it’s his own info

But good college players are what we want, right? I assume by “game changers” you’re referring to an All-American type player (or at least All-Conference) - and at UK we should often have one of those. But the type of guys that can carry a team are not generally (if ever) going to be found coming out of high school. Complimentary pieces – Yes, but not guys to hitch your wagon to.

The OAD freshman may be potential game changers, but they’re not at UK long enough for that potential qualifier to be dropped. Moreover, I don’t think many of those 5-stars are even UK level starters their freshmen season. If UK is going to be in the conversation for a championship run I believe that they have to have good college players, not potential game changers.
This is exactly why I don't understand the fervor over Reeves. He will most likely never play in the NBA and has been inconsistent in college. But, people on this board act like he hung the moon or saved the entire season. He did do some good things but, he isn't a "must get" IMO. It would be nice to have him back but, you don't give away the farm to get him.
And I will say this...Calipari relies on epic level talent to have success. His lone championship at UK came with a total freakish talent in Anthony Davis. He runs a very antiquated system and the ideal situation is to have 2-3 draft picks on a team with a few role players surrounding them. If you want to call Reeves one of those role players then fine.

I assume he was going to get what he wants somewhere else. He had a lot of big time suitors and we had to compete.

I know the story on Ugonna was he was looking for guaranteed NIL and couldn't find it. But he was a raw, unrpoven big man. Reeves is a proven scorer in one of the toughest conferences in the country. There aren't many guys that have a 37 point game under their belt.

The rest of this is 100% projecting/my attempt at reading the tea leaves.

Watching this all unfold over the last 10 days, I think Cal finally felt desparate and just asked the kid, "what's it going to take." I assume Reeves told him what else is out there and how it works EVERYWHERE ELSE.

I believe Cal then told him to give him a few days to talk to the people that have the money. Then Cal called him and told him he's seen the light. "We're getting this--not really a collective, but something that looks and sounds just like a collective, and will function just like a collective."
Thing is Reeves isn't a proven scorer in the tournament. If we need him just to get to the tournament, then we have much bigger problems than Reeves.

He had 22 in the 1st game vs Providence. I know you guys love to say that 1 bad game defines who he is, but are you really telling me he didn’t show that he could score in the tournament?

And also—I don’t care about just making the tournament. I want to advance.

We may stumble our way in. We’re not going anywhere without SOME experience.

I know, I know—Cal did it with freshmen before. Not in the portal/NIL era. The world is differenr.

What other school has the same rabid fanbase as Kentucky? Our fans will click on every f'ing link on the internet that may have some scrap of information about a player related to our program. No other school has that.

Yeah, that's the other good point on why Michigan doesn't make sense here (this plus the harder admission standards).

The way they talked, it's the credits transferring over. Graduate transfers wouldn't have any issues. Also, players are definitely using that as an excuse. Michigan is the one school being mentioned with a hole at guard that Reeeves could fill.

Illinois definitely doesn't have room for Reeves. They have already taken two transfer guards, Guerrier from Oregon, and are returning Shannon. Playing time-wise, it's a worse fit.

Indiana, likewise, is returning Johnson and Galloway at guard and will have Mgbako and Reneau at forward. Reeves could probably push Galloway out, but he could equally push our freshman for playing time.

What do you mean? He was our best offensive player (especially the last 6 games), minus the last game of course. Why wouldn’t you be excited to get a player back who averaged over 14 a game and 40% from 3. Any program would be excited about that
Some of the Reeve's myths....
. He didn't play much for many games...
Only four games under 20 mins: 19, 15, 17 and 14
Only seven games from 20-25 minutes: 22, 20, 24, 24, 22, 21, 19

. He was a great shooter, and clutch in big games , and consistent

EIGHTEEN games of shooting 33.3 % or less from the three point line
NINE of those games were against "clutch or big game " opponents

33.3% (1-3) and 1- 7 overall vs MSU (Loss in overtime)
28.6% (2-7) and 4-13 overall vs Gonzaga (Loss),
33.3% (1-3) and 3-7 overall vs Yale (Win)
25% (2-8) and 2-13 overall vs UCLA (Loss)
28.6% (2-7) and 4-11 overall vs FAMU (Win)
0% (0-3) and 3-6 overall vs Mizz (loss)
0% (0-2) and 1-4 overall vs UL (win)
0% (0-1) and 0-1 overall vs LSU (win) and those three games are also his lowest minute games (15, 17, 14)
20% (1-5) and 6-13 overall vs SC (loss)
33.3% (3-9) and 4-10 overall vs Tenn (win)
20% (1-5) and 4-11 overall vs GA (win)
0% (0-3) and 3-9 overall vs Kansas (loss)
0% (0-0) and 2-5 overall vs Fla (win) next game after his monster game against Ole Miss
25% (1-4) and 4-12 overall vs Ark (win) the next game after that
33.3% (1-3) and 3-8 overall vs Tenn (win)
33.3% (2-6) and 3-14 overall vs FL (win)
12.5% (1-8) and 4-17 overall vs Vandy (loss)
10% (1-10) and 1-5 overall vs KSU (loss)

EDIT: this is not to bash the guy, but some off you act like he is the best ever...

So do you want to enter the season will all freshmen and 2 guys who never played and assume they will all be better?

I think the point is...
while everyone here would love to have Reeves and his maturity, experience, and hopefully leadership back...
it is that we are at a place where we NEED him and his mediocre skills back, is the cause for concern.

He didn't win it all with anything close to what we have now. That team had 4 freshman, one of whom did not start. 2 sophomores who played significant minutes their first season (Lamb, Jones) and a Senior (Miller).

NO ONE acts like he is the best player ever. He's the best veteran option shooter/scorer out there. And he's currently on our roster. He's very important for us to get back.

Reeves is a proven scorer and proven 40% shooter. We have zero proven scorers. We have zero proven 3 point shooters.

I THINK multiple of these freshmen will be REALLY good. But I also thought a lot of other Freshmen were going to be very good.

You're saying "Let me pick out all of the bad games to prove he's not all that." What if I pick out all of the good games? Suddenly, he looks like a really good player. Against Arkansas he dropped 37 points. Against a good Providence team--he had 21 while shooting 5/9 for 3.

Or how about we take the average--which kind of gives you the bigger picture rather than focusing on the ups and downs--where he is a 14 point per game scorer on 40% 3 point shooting.

Seems to me that the problem is Reeves knows that the team needs him back and he's exploiting that for every dime it's worth. And he is NOT that guy to be holding any program hostage like this, let alone Kentucky.

At this point, he either wants to be here or he doesn't. It's way past time for Cal to call his bluff.

he is the only best veteran shooter because ccc sat on his butt & let all of the other quality veterans go elsewhere.
this all falls on his total ineptness & disregard for the program

Agreed.

It's even wild to me that he had to meet with Reeves. Reeves should have gone into the draft knowing "Kentucky has this amazing NIL package if I come back."

stopped reading after your first sentence.. YOU went strawman, red herring and hyperbole all at once. I never said ANY ONE acted like he was the best player ever. When you can act like adult, we'll converse
