Blake Harris, a 4 star pg from Word of God academy, choose mizzou over mich state and nc state. And they are also in the running(likely the lead) for Tilmon who decommitted from Illini. A 5 star from east stl which is counzo's old stomping ground.

Cuonzo may end up with a good first class, but, I bet it will be his last when 5 star, one and dones see how he does with top talent, who only want to stay one year. If K is having problems, you can imagine what Martin is up against. Only one coach can manage all the egos and make them play as a unit, and we all know who that is.

Here's the thing.

Two months ago, Missouri was in the midst of a 13-game losing streak, losses to NC Central, Eastern Illinois and Lipscomb, a DII caliber coach and maybe 3 SEC caliber players.

Fast forward to mid-April, they have a decent coach and will probably bring in a top 5 recruiting class, including the #1 overall player.

From where they came from to where they are now, it's hard to say they haven't hit a home run here.

How in the hell Cuonzo Martin does this is beyond me. He literally does nothing at these schools and then keeps landing jobs and recruits. It smells a lil fishy if you ask me.

Cuonzo hired the #1 players daddy and the #1 player started recruiting buddies to play with him. We will see how Martin does after a few years and major talent has gone to the league

Tennessee was improving when he left, Cal, not so much. He uses a really slow power game which is how he played at Purdue. Not sure how this talent fits that template.

Mizzou likely to land Tilmon any day now.

If they land Knox they would have #2 overall recruiting class behind UK.

I think Martin is mediocre at best but with those guys on board they could easily challenge for SEC title.

Everything lined up for this moment in Missouri basketball. The moment Romar was fired at Washington I'd be willing to bet that Poppa Porter started orchestrating this whole thing.

If I'm Martin, I'd be worried. Michael Porter will only be there one year and his daddy maybe 2, depending what happens with the younger Porter. But to me this is setting Martin up to having a nice 1st year and then the carpet starts to be pulled out from under him. If he's lucky he has enough success in his first year (sweet 16 or better) and Porter grabs a bunch of headlines throughout the season, that other elite talent in the St. Louis area starts going to Columbia, MO, but those players have routinely gone to Kansas or dUKe. I'd take Missouri becoming relevant in college basketball if it meant a reduction in talent at those two schools. But this appears to me to be setting Martin up for premature failure.

I hope Porter plays harder than what I've seen him play. No hustle to his game. most of his points in the Nike game come other guys hustle plays and he was the benefactor of them.

When he is in college he is going to have to learn hustle and defense.

I get that with Porter but we've already seen Martin get talent and do nothing with it. All he has on his resume is the UT run to the Sweet 16 and that's it. They could possibly end up with the 2nd best recruiting class. That's just fishy as hell, even with Porter recruiting players to come with him. Where there is smoke, there is usually a fire in situations like this.

I disagree with this, he took UT to the sweet 16 a few years back. Then, he goes and resurrects Cal and makes them a 4 seed in the ncaa tournament. They lost but they had several injuries for that game. So, to say he has done nothing is a bit misleading.

Mizzou buddy of mine who lives in Columbia just texted me and said Knox will be committing to Mizzou.

No idea if he's correct or messing with me (he says he is told it's for real) but pretty interesting info.

If it's true that is keeping him away from Duke and UNC. If anybody watched Vanderbilt Friday night I think we will be ok.

He recruited great at Cal in his first year getting Brown and Rabb too.

When he already had Wallace and possibly the Matthews kid that transferred to the Zags

Love to see how martin mangages two guys who need the ball in their hands that arent PGs or players that are known for making others better. Good luck with that bruh.

Yeah, maybe you're right. It just feels like he hasn't done much. Although Cal did lose in the 1st round of the NiT this year. Maybe saying he hasn't done anything is a bit overboard but I think it's fair to say he hasn't done that much but then again, not many coaches have outside of the blue bloods.

This is a good example of how the right hire can immediately change the fortunes of a program. While Martin is not an elite coach he is a significant upgrade over what Mizzou had and their situation going into this year's SEC Tournament.

Cal also had no talent this year. Maybe 3 or 4 good players. Remember, they lost a ton last year and that included Jordan Mathews who played a huge role for Gonzaga. Had he not grad transferred, they probably are an NCAA team pretty easily.

Well Martin is certainly going to have some talent and in this OAD age, anyone complaining around that they are FR, wont float. This will be interesting.

Why didn't we sign Porter's father? It is in no way illegal and it gets you the #1 player in the class. Didn't Tubby hire Magloires dad?

People bring up the hiring the dad thing as some kind of unbelievable act above reproach. We're competing against schools for recruits that don't have to go to class, buy recruits hookers, cover up pedophilia, etc.

I think it is a great move by Martin and wish we would've done it first. Crucify me if you want.

It was Maglories coach and it was for some secondary position. Assistant to the basketball operations or some such. And that sort of move like Porters dad is for coaches and programs that could only get players by doing something like that. Were fine with out the baggage.

Trading an assistant coach spit for the #1 overall player seems like a good deal to me.

Like I said, feel free to crucify, but If that is all it takes to sign a player the gives us the best shot at winning it all, I'd strongly consider it.

Nobody is above reproach and nothing about hiring the dad is remotely close to illegal.

Kind of like when Calipari was hired. Recruiting changed overnight. I can't remember all of the kids Billy Gillespie had as commitments but I don't believe any were kept except Orton as I seem to recall.

Because both Cal & UK are waaaay past the point of bending over backwards to get a recruit...

Because we already have the #1 incoming class with guys who can play that position...

Because we don't need any additional scrutiny thrown our way(Higgins, CNN comparing us to Syrian air strikes, Cal & his mercenaries ruining college hoops, etc).

I agree it's a good move for Martin, but at this point of the game UK is above hiring a parent & giving him damn near 6 figures for his son to attend the school for 6 months.

Rick Pitino hired Simeon Mars to get Magloire.

Coach Martin to me is a Head Coach that jumps to another school about every 3 seasons. His last four jobs he has stayed 3 years at each college. He does bring the recruits in but hasn't done much in the NCAA Tournament. The press asked him after taking the Missouri job that after 2 or 3 years at Misouri if a bigger school comes knocking would he leave again. He took recruits and recruiting coaches with him to Tennesse and did the same at Cal. Then this job at Missouri brings in Porters dad to get his son and other top recruits. At UT and Cal in he 6 seasons all are double digit losses at end of the year. Still haven't been impressed with his coaching at any of his schools he has been at over the last 12 seasons.
