Mitch's state of mind

I’m not saying he shouldn’t. That wasn’t what I said at all. If you think Mitch is in a normal situation then you know nothing about sports. This is a rare situation that a coach like Calipari gets himself into in such a short amount of time.

By the way I just heard Reece Davis, Jay Williams, Seth Greenberg, and Jay Bilas say we are crazy if we fire him. That’s national media also.

And don’t spin it saying that I agree with them because I don’t. Kentucky needs change but it’s not everyday a school is in this situation if you know anything at all.
That unfortunate those members of national media mentioned above all state we shouldnt fire Cal. In my mind makes it far less likely

If Cal ever gets a media job then it will be hilarious to see all his media haters act like they are besties when they are on tv together
I retired in my middle 60s. Just a little older than Calipari is now. If I'd gone with 36 million (- taxes), I know the exact places I'd be. And none of them are here.

And never think about hoops or TV personalities again.

Right. Name me another coach of his stature that was fired, absent scandal.

Of course we don’t always know what’s going on behind the scenes. I would imagine most coaches in his shoes walk away to save face. I’d say Joe B. was in that category.
I do not think there has been a coach to ever walk away from that kind of money. Both sides need to honor the contract. The amount doesn't matter now. The deal was made in good faith from both sides. Pay him, get this bad stuff over, this needs to end.
Doesn't Stoops have a somewhat similar contract?

This situation is just like the 2024 election lol

You either stick with a person who isn’t very good at their job
What is it that "isn't very good" means? All time high stock market. All time low unemployment.

The media prints the accusations but they never seem to rebut them.

What Biden doesn't do is stick his face in front of a camera 900 times a day.

I already clarified I thought he was talking about Pitino’s second title that was vacated. I said it’s not OFTEN that you see this situation. Never said it’s never happened. Pay attention to key words. And just like Tubby, Nolan Richardson wasn’t held as high regards as Cal either. He has half as many career wins.
But his teams when they were good were beautiful. They ran the fast break like we did this year.

Somewhat similar to the Denny Crum situation for a coach without scandals. Louisville was ready for a change, he won 2 National Championship and felt the heat after the down years at the end of his career plus Pitino becoming available after the Celtics. Crum retired before Jurich fired him and is their best coach in school history. Calipari did a lot of great during his first 10 years but there comes time it is best for both to go their separate ways.

I don’t know about Stoops contract. I agree that UK needs to pay up and move on. Wouldn’t blame them at all for trying to negotiate a better rate, but they did this to themselves.

If Cal thinks he’s good enough to stay at UK, then surely he’s good enough to get hired elsewhere and eat into that buyout. I would hope that any media money earned would also eat into the buyout amount, but I don’t know.

Basically, any money he earns for being a “basketball expert” should cut into that buyout amount, imo. Don’t know if it’s structured that way.

Joe B had no reason to “save face.”
He hung it up after being in the f4 the previous year then losing the bulk of that team.

Revisionist history.

First round upset in 1981.

First round upset in 1982 (preventing UL matchup).

Lost Dream Game in 1983.

Second half meltdown in 1984 vs G-Town (3 for 33).

Struggled through the 1985 season with Kenny Walker dominating in the post. We were a surprise entry in the tournament as a 12 seed. Made a fun run to the Sweet 16 before walking away.

The core of that team returned the next year and dominated throughout in Eddie’s first year. Blew it in the Elite Eight playing LSU for the 4th time.

Fans were foaming at the mouth. Internet would have been ugly for Joe B.

Mitch has to remember to do what’s best for the program. These March meltdowns cannot continue. The same fundamental mistakes on the court cannot continue. The program is NOT about getting players to the NBA. It’s about winning games and competing for championships.
