Mitch might be done for

Good grief.
You really don’t understand how people in positions of power operate. This is going to blow up into a major story. They either needed something to push this story to the side or needed to get someone hired ASAP because it could make it harder to hire someone after it dropped.

Don’t be naive

I always thought it was a dumb rule that if you are part of an athletic organization and get raped you aren't allowed to notify the police. It's ridiculous that instead you have to alert a low-level assistant coach (who has career incentives not to cause a stir) with the hope that he or she sends an email to a few people with a cryptic message about what went on. Meanwhile, you continue to get raped and others on the team do too. Yet, they aren't allowed to call the police either. And this can go on for years and years and NOBODY IS ALLOWED TO CALL THE POLICE.

I don't have the Athletic, but there are two articles you can read for free:

Swim Swam Article - Details Assaults

Bleacher Report - Details Past at Toledo and a Few Complaints

I pieced these two together and I don't get what UK did so wrong here. Here's how I pieced it together:
  1. (Bleacher Article) UK was allegedly notified in 2012, 2014, and 2019 of allegations against Jorgensen. Some of these allegations involved Jorgensen's time at Toledo. Specifically, one allegation included a softball coach reaching out to UK's swim coach (Conelly) that Jorgensen had dated a student athlete on the Toledo swim team. Connelly called reached out to that person and she said she only started dating him after she left the team. The lawsuit said that Connelly should have reported this to UK, but didn't. (SO FAR, NOTHING CRIMINAL or ILLEGAL)
  2. (Swim Swam Article) In 2013 - A staffer said that Jorgensen raped her at a party. Then he continued to abuse her for the next two years. This was not reported to authorities or the university.
  3. (Swim Swam Article) Briggs Alexander swam for UK from 2014-18, and said that Jorgensen groomed her during her time on the team. Then, in 2019, after she left the team, Jorgensen raped her at his party (again, no police were called). Then she started working as an assistant to him and he raped her 3 more times over the next 4 years. (No police called). Briggs identifies as a man now, btw.
  4. (Swim Swam Article): Here's the kicker, the lawsuit says that UK has known about the relationship at Toledo AND a sexual assault since 2019 and has done nothing. To me, the Toledo thing is no big deal. But who reported the sexual assault? And who knew about it from UK?
  5. In May 2023, UK suspended the coaching staff for punishment swims and stuff like that, but that seems completely different than sexual assault.

All in all, this doesn't seem to come close to the Michigan St situation.

Oh, and the people who are driving it are the lawyer from Michigan St (Rachael Denhollander) and a journalist Katie Strang. You can look those two up and see if you think they're going to give fair treatment to both sides in a situation like this.

Your assumption of the timeline relating this story to Pope's hiring is what is naive. Why don't you let this play out first and see how involved Mitch was before driving the stakes.

Whether Mitch was involved has nothing to do with whether it influenced the timeline of the coaching hire

It definitely could if he knew it was going to be filled this week. How many coaches can you convince to work for a possibly is getting indicted and fired?

And lol@a football focused coach. This president and AD are about making money, that probably won’t change.

Football is our main source of revenue. It’s the bell cow at almost every D1 school not named Duke.

Damn straight. When you compare the AD's in the best conference in college sports (SEC)to Mitch. He is an embarrasment. He's junior level, he's a middle school JV player on the varisty high school team.
Setting this story aside because we don't know the facts, how many athletic departs in the SEC, or the country for matter, are performing better than UK's? Another question for you. Looking at how awful the performance of our athletic department was when he took over compared to other SEC departments, how many athletic departments in the SEC, or the country for that matter, have improved as much as ours over the last 10 years?

Someone sends you an email saying you have this man on video having sex with a seemingly unconscious college girl you then hire the guy you deserve everything you have coming.

Edit: This was after he was fired from his alma mater Tenn. for sending sexually explicit emails from his university email account.

It's not about MB though it's about the victims.

We could have waited for Donovan, bought out Oats, lots of things we could've done. The hire was a quick panic hire. We chalked it up to Mitch just being Mitch. But this puts the puzzle pieces together.

You think it would have taken long to buy out Oats? That probably would have been the fastest path to a new coach.

🤦‍♂️

Anyone can say anything in a civil lawsuit. And the defendants don’t necessarily know it’s coming or when. To jump to the conclusion that the allegations are true and that Mitch made the Pope hire because of this is idiotic.

The truth of the allegations has nothing to do with whether the hire was rushed to make sure a coach was in place before the lawsuit dropped
