Miami win looks less impressive all the time

Miami and Gonzag were both considered very tough games at the beginning of the season

Those aren't the schedule failures.

Playing 10 games against QUAD 3 and QUAD 4 opponents is the failure.

Many of the other elite teams only played 6-8 games against such teams.

North Carolina win looking better and better though.
UNC was a great win but it’s our only good win.
Florida and Mizzou are trash.
The UNCW loss is going to haunt us all season.

Somehow we need to sweep UT and pull out a win at Auburn because the rest of the SEC and Gonzaga have turned out to be overrated.
And we can’t afford another bad loss to a bad team.

Agreed. It was so important that we beat UNC for all the reasons you just said.

So basically, we need to go undefeated?

Not a realistic expectation in today's SEC and guarantees you are going to be miserable.

While a one seed at this point seems unlikely, there is no reason whatsoever that a seed other than a one can make a deep run in the tournament.

I'm looking for continuous improvement, especially on the defensive end, and then will hope we get hot in March.

We are very dangerous even now and no one is going to be happy to see us in their region in the Big Dance.

Other coaches love to see Cal in their region.
Just ask Tom Crean, Bruce Weber, Shaheen Holloway, and Jerome Tang.
They all took much less talented teams and sent Cal home to his dogs.

This team has good talent but Cal is a major underachiever.

We are the easiest team in the country to prepare for. Man to man, switching defense.

It's been the longest period of time between one seeds in the history of our program and counting. 1 seeds win the NCAA tournament over 60% of the time. You don't have to have your Masters in Mathematics to know that that means 1 seeds have won more NCAA tournaments than every other seed ... combined.

No, you don't have to have a 1 seed to win it all. But it matters, mathematically speaking.

I guess you can give up and wait for our impending doom, but I'm enjoying watching this team grow and mature.

We're not going to be title favorites, but if we improve our defense / rebounding at all, we will be right in the thick of the hunt this year.

It's been a few years since that has been the case, but that's really all I ask for in a coach / program.

When you're a legit title contender consistently, you are going to win your share. Call has one. He's been very close on several others.

Time to get back there again!

I love this team and think they have as good of a chance to make a Final Four run as any team we've had in years (especially if Thiero gets healthy), I just think earning a 1 seed in the NCAA tournament is more important than others might.

My thoughts exactly.

At some point, you still have to kind of include Miami as a good win, even if they aren't good now. When we played them, they were certainly playing much better than they are now. Are teams scouting them better? Have them figured out? Are players in a shooting slump? Are some banged up? Is their confidence now shot?

The win isn't worth what it was, but there needs to be SOME context here. Miami was a heck of a lot better in November than they are now. Some teams just regress. I'm not ready to equate Miami to a mid-major team like Penn.

Sorry. Wasn't intending to reply to you or suggest you had given up.

I'm really old now and a very slow typer. 😁

So the f what? You know what? We play in the toughest conference in America. We'll have plenty of time to collect "good" wins.

Win the conference and/or the conference tournament and UNCW will have little to no factor in our seeding. I would venture to guess if we are at or near the top of the conference with either and Auburn or UT, then whichever one of us wins the Conference Tourney will get planted in the 2 seed spot.

This team has the talent to get there. Cal does not have the intestinal fortitude or introspection necessary to mold this team into a champion.
