Probably no sporting events or concerts until 2021 at the earliest. Looking more and more like fall winter sports are in jeopardy.

We'll see. I could definitely imagine delaying the season till January, where our first game and the rest of the schedule are SEC games, plus the game against the Big 12.

Cities are ALREADY realizing it's safe to do this, just without fans.. And it's only mid April.

A cure might not be here yet, but extensive testing and preventative measures are being put in place every day. Thankfully, half of this nation realizes we can't just stop life.

I'm a New Yorker and that's news to me. I don't think Cuomo has even talked about sports and 2021. I know that as of yesterday, they are working on easing people back into the economy. Doesn't sound like something he;d say if he thought they would cancel all sports for the next 8 months..
Wolf on CNN just was talking about this right before I posted the thread.

I’ve seen the California Governor say that (same Governor who just granted $125 million for “residents” who are here illegally).

yeah but left wing Mayor or governor stalin doesn't want you to go. And you shouldn't have the choice to make your own decisions unless you're ripping your baby out of your womb. If it's not abortion you're too stupid to make your own choices in life

No sports for 2020 or 2021 just to be on the safe side. Maybe 2022 Winter Olympics if there's a vaccine

Well there's problem #1.. CNN lol. They're hoping the entire economy shuts down until November 4th.

I've been watching Cuomo very closely.. I don't see him pushing that route. You can tell he actually wants the economy to resume because he knows it's going to crucify the people.

they're hoping this goes for all time and it's the start of American socialism and the green new deal. Newsom Gates and clyburn have said so themselves. These people said in early March this was their opening for 2020 why anyone still thinks it's anything different is just in denial

I dont understand what people arent getting??? This thing IS NOT JUST GOING AWAY even once it has dissipated. I guess once everyone knows someone who has died from this we will stop the rush to resume sports. Maybe not.

So what are we going to do, let heart diseased people continue to die in their homes, businesses to fail causing people to become poor and mental health issues to rise?

It's not going to matter, half this country isn't going to sit around locked up until Fall. There's a lot of speculation that WAAY more people had this than we realized, and recovered, which will mean the death rate was much lower than we thought. When testing becomes more and more prevalent, we will learn about the numbers.. and if that death rate is where many of us think, people will go back into the economy, mayor's approval or not.

I understand those comments but I ask the question, why have we not had millions more tested . How do we know where we stand or where we will be, when testing is needed to determine both. We may have thousands or millions more people with this virus. We do not know. Until there is a vaccine, I personally do not think we will see a full uninterrupted season of any sport in the near future. Maybe 2022. I am usually very positive in my daily life so please tell me how wrong I am. I really want to be.

Are you are one of those doofuses that are protesting in Michigan and here in KY?

Going to work and spreading it until we are like northern Italy should do the trick for the economy. Obviously staying in isnt fun or productive but killing 1000's more people isnt a magic bullet for the economy.

Haven't heard this but it's asinine if true. Too early to make that call. There won't be a vaccine until later in 2021 (and many people who get a flu shot/vaccine still get the flu, you know). We're really going to stop our lives for another 15+ months? I'm thinking a worldwide depression is just as serious if not more so than this virus if we follow through on this course. More and more experts from non-US countries are questioning the complete shutdown. 'Herd immunity' is the phrase I keep hearing and isolating everyone will not engender herd immunity. (FWIW, polio wasn't considered eradicated worldwide until 2017 and we've had a vaccine for almost 70 years now; plus, there are 20+ new cases of bubonic plague in the US each year - you CANNOT completely eradicate this or any virus with a vaccine.) The financial, mental and social cost of isolation is approaching the human cost in my mind. Not trying to be callous and I'm all for continuing isolation for most at-risk but, keep everyone inside, no restaurants, no sporting events, no concerts, etc. for another year plus? Nope.

BTW, this won't be the only pandemic in our lifetime. We gonna shut the world down for a year every decade or so for every pandemic that arises? It's insanity. The number of people who will starve, commit suicide, commit homicide, become clinically depressed, abuse drugs/alcohol, physical abuse, etc. will go off the charts if this country doesn't start opening up a little at time in the near future.

This. Anyone that doesn’t believe that politics is a big driving force in all this are just blind. Blind, delusional or both. At least, I’m assuming that’s what you’re referring to - election and politics.

There probably will not be a vaccine. Much like the common cold, which is also a coronavirus, it mutates to quickly.

President Trump said he was tired of watching reruns of baseball games from 14 years ago and we needed sports back.. He will definitely not be happy to hear that from the mayor

Italy was absolutely blind-sided by this.. We weren't quite as much, hence why every models numbers/predictions have dropped. And maybe that's because we did a good job quarantining.. but either way you're not going to be able to force people to stay in forever.

Also, do we realize that we can almost fully open the economy, and still have dozens of measures in place to help this from kicking back up:
  • Masks
  • Hospitals staffing and stocking accordingly
  • Testing Kits
  • Donations
  • Volunteering
  • Social distancing for the at-risk
  • Schools closed for the year
  • Washing hands
  • Thousands of companies staying remote (mine just told us we likely won't go back to the office until 2021)
  • General knowledge of the virus.
It's not like when we reopen the economy we just go back to coughing on each other.. That's what people aren't getting. We have changed so much from this (for the better) that reopening the economy will be completely different.

Again, it almost doesn't matter.. even liberal mayors are talking about going back to work, because money still talks, even if your political views like to pretend it doesn't.

It's going to happen, and we will be that much better prepared for it. I would not worry about fall sports for at least a few months.

Some mayors and governors are using this pandemic to feed their egos. "Oh yeah? I can take away your sports for a year! Watch me."

they're despicable human beings. Anyone that gets into politics is shady at best but these mayors and governors are wannabe Mussolinis. Basically telling people you cannot earn a living or we will punish you we will close your business. How is that different from nazi Germany?

Oh it's for public safety though I know. We the proles are just incapable of choosing what's right for ourselves

Some of you guys are funny. We’re going through a global cataclysm. This is one of the major doomsday scenarios. Efforts to control and manage it have been so successful that people are actually believing it is a nonevent.

I’ve also learned that some individuals believe that 6 months pay is worth 100,000’s of lives so long as as the paycheck keeps coming.

The science will drive entertainment crowds in the cities.

Federalism has many pros but unfortunately the downside is having hundreds of egos to feed.

Damn, there goes our much anticipated bourbon tasting, VIP, Chris Stapleton concert at the end of June here in Denver...

I'll wait and hear from my city, but Denver's mayor has been ahead of our governor when it comes to shutting things down. 40,000 people packed into a stadium to watch a Kentucky boy play some country music to drunk fans fresh off of a 2-3 month lock down will probably be one of the mayor's first targets.

And then there's Red Rocks concerts being canceled. That would BLOW.

This will be debated for years if not decades in this country but the only answer is liberty. You leave your house every day of your life there's a risk of 500 things happening to you from illness to car crash to a mass shooting. If you decide it's not worth the risk you're welcome to stay at home

How can it be a doomsday scenario when even the worst death rates are still under 10%, but some models show well below 1%? Don't get me wrong, 10% is BAD.. but that's not doomsday. I think you've watched too many sci-fi movies lately..
