Yeah they should be playing for free room and board, MAYBE a few hundred bucks to eat on and maybe $1000 play around money for the month.
Oh wait, they did that in college so all of the older guys could make BILLIONS while they did all of the heavy lifting, and the NCAA / Universities sat back rubbing their hands, and kept adding more games, more tournaments, and more marketing deals with TV and shoe companies.
No. You have the NCAA governing body and you have the universities. They BOTH got rich off of the young kids and wanted to keep ALL the money from shoe deals / video games / marketing of star players. They are NOT the same. They worked together and made billions that is about the only thing they was the same in.
Yeah, the “governing body controlled by the Schools. When people blamed “The NCAA” for not punishing UNC, it was SEC commissioner Greg Sankey who is controlled by the schools that lead the committee that made that decision. The NCAA knows who it really works for. When they came to a settlement with the players for violating antitrust laws guess who had to vote to approve it.
Schools have fought (Tarkanian was public enemy #1) the NCAA for years. How can they be the same when the NCAA would hand out punishments and restrictions to schools ? Did they punish or set restrictions for their own teams ? The NCAA was a governing body and the schools had to play by their rules or else. Except the money grab, both benefited and kept it all and gave the kids notta. That was the only thing the NCAA and universities was the same in. Do you think the schools would punish their own program ? Ban them from tournaments, suspend players, restrict recruiting, set guidelines that benefitted the NCAA first ? IF the NCAA and the universities was the same thing, programs would never have been punished. Some was the darling of the NCAA and was given a lot less governing (UNC, Duke, Kansas, and a couple others), why do you think there was a running "joke the NCAA was so mad at Kansas, they punished "insert small school)."
