Matt Jones Tenn postgame rant

Negotiated buyouts happen all the damn time for a myriad of reasons. Sure cal can dig his heels in the sand here but this fanbase can make him wish he never came here. A narcissist like cal has to be revered not loathed. It would be an embarrassing end to his tenure here and possible career to. have the fanbase literally run him out of town.
This is so naive and has zero reality based around this. What is the “fanbase” going to do?

There is no avenue to get enough money for the buyout. To say otherwise is simply stupid and ignoring the facts.

Also, if you think a coach is going to accept getting fired, leave money on the table and allow for anything other than a huge lump sum you are insane.
It doesn’t make you sound smart to constantly tell people they are stupid or insane. It makes it sound like you don’t have a great argument and want to bully people into accepting your word.

By him knowing he is no longer wanted here. Boo’d at home games, not being able to enjoy time out as fans let him know it’s time to go. No coach will like being boo’d at home but that alone game after game would probably be enough for cal to want to leave. As I stated he wants to be revered not loathed.
I’m fine with booing him at ballgames and being vocal at UK functions. Accosting the man during his private time though is low. I remember some liberals doing that to conservatives at dinner and people threw a hissy. Which I agree with actually.

I had a client try to talk to me about an ongoing issue while I was out with friends at dinner once.

No. Wrong. Rude.

Everyone, even if they suck ass at their job, even a public one deserves personal time and space.

He’s right on all of it.
He’s full of crap is he’s about

In the same breath his know it all spill….he then says I still don’t think cal should go. He’s never stated a coach needs to go but Joker

Like what the heck is the point if you’re not to able to argue Gillespie needed to go. Or however longer you neee to see Cal pull his stunts

That whole KSR screw are air bags to be honest

Cool story bro. The fans making these insane proclamations that it’s no issue to buy Cal out or he’ll accept a negotiation or the fans will force him to leave don’t require even a good argument. They are so stupid on their own that an argument isn’t even needed

The whole "all the other teams have fewer NBA players" argument is weak sauce for Jones to rely on. It smacks of somebody who doesn't really understand the game. What if I said, "this UK team relies on more high school players than every other team we've played." That's as close to the truth as what Jones said, if not more so. UK has no NBA players. Outside of possibly Reeves, they have kids who expect to be drafted in the future by NBA teams on potential. If a few of those players mature and develop into NBA All-Stars in a few years, so what. Still doesn't mean anything about NOW.

I just think there are much better arguments to make questioning Calipari - and I think focusing on the wrong logical fallacy doesn't get to the heart of the problem that has needed to change for a long time.

So Cal hasn’t had more talent than anyone we’ve played this year? Florida is more talented than us? Bull.

Not only Cal should be gone the AD should also be gone, a once proud Ky BB program has turned into program with a no winning guidance.

There you go again. Does it make you feel important to constantly call everyone stupid? Why, because your sister is a paralegal or something?

The buyout isn’t so massive anymore especially after the season. I mean the dollar since Cals hire has devalued 20% and the buyout will be under 30 million. Major programs pay that in a heartbeat because not will cost us more in the long run. That’s why we need an AD now who is concerned about the long run. All these guys Barney, stoops cal care about is inflating their egos and pockets. If you ask any of them a 3-5 year plan on their program or athletics you won’t get it. Barney knows he should be gone; stoops tried to leave, and cal has no clue what’s going on. That is a massive problem to have.
Right. It's not going to happen in a heartbeat or just because, because Capilouto is a bottom-line money guy and doesn't do things on a whim. (And it has to be Capilouto. Barnhart is incapable of ever thinking rationally about the basketball program, or at least of acting on a rational thought about it.)

It won't take very many empty Rupps or season ticket cancellations before Capilouto will see trends in the bottom line that bother him way more than any 30-million-over-x-number-of-years buyout ever would. Not to mention that things like empty Rupps or mass movements among season ticket holders put breach of contract on the table anyway and there goes your buyout—at least that starts heading towards the realm of possibility.

It can't happen now and hopefully as Matt said some trends will turn around and stop us being on the road where it can happen soon. Because we are on that road now. It won't take too many more nights like last night before empty Rupps and big block season tickets dumps really are a possibility.

No, I don't think FL is more talented than UK. The way I define talent, I wouldn't bet anyone has more talent than UK. But it also depends on what a person means by "talent." The player that has the biggest impact on winning a college game NOW, or the player with the most upside? There are a number of high school freshmen running around the country right now who likely have more talent than anyone on UK's roster. But UK isn't winning anything relying on those kids.

No, I’m just tired of so many here proving the “dumb, uneducated hick” Kentucky stereotype. It should be embarrassing

Adjustments, Jones is talking adjustments lol.

I don’t disagree with that and I personally would not approach anyone in public negatively or positively however there are those who do. A more proper way to do it is for the media and university to take the kid gloves off and actually make him field real phone calls from the fan base on his call in shows. No more bobs from Jamestown BS or whoever the hell calls in. Make him address real coaching issues for a change.

Copied this from another thread:

If Kentucky wants to fire him without cause, the school is going to owe him 75% of what remains in base and supplemental pay. Here’s how that breaks down by year:

2023-24: $33,375,000
2024-25: $27,000,000
2025-26: $20,250,000
2026-27: $13,500,000
2027-28: $6,750,000
We can get 1 million UK fans to pony up $33.38 each to make him go away. Who do I Venmo the money to? Let’s do this!

listening to it now, decided to come here and see if people were talking about it

the biggest takeaway from Matt's comments is that we constantly excuse every loss

but last night was different. Everyone feels it. There aren't many people accepting excuses now

Eli is about done. That dude is in his mid 70s and been president longer than lee todd. He’s well past the average time for university presidents. Another guy imported in for uk. Non. Active Kentuckian. Lee todd was a Kentucky guy and committed to making sure our bb team is always on top.

Nah, what's really embarrassing is you switching sides once again - I've lost count of the number of times you have changed your stance between pro-Cal and anti-Cal.

Are you sure you are not bipolar or something?

Interesting so no coach in the history of sports has ever accepted a negotiated buyout to move on? You may be the naive one here and not basing anything on reality.
Find me an example of a coach who had $50 million+ guaranteed who took a settlement and just walked away. Find one….I’ll wait

If the performances keep getting better, I am down for a "Cal you suck" chant, to make sure that he can't duck the fan base during game time.

Who are our NBA players Matt is talking about, other than Dilly. Would you waste a pick on anyone else? 1st or 2nd round
Reeves 2nd round. Wagner early 2nd, maybe early 1st. Sheppard late 1st. Z I think could be a 1st. Not there yet, but Theiro and Burks could become 2nd's.

He was talking about other than DJ, so Reed is clearly one. Bradshaw and Edwards will play in the NBA. Reeves has a shot. I think Z will play in the NBA. Thiero is a maybe. UGO - I don’t know. He can rebound and protect the rim.

I for sure would use a late first on Reed if given the chance. I would draft Z, Edwards, Bradshaw somewhere in the second on potential. The others I would imagine would be camp invites.

Again, this is not counting DJ, who I would also use a second round pick on.
Well, in the future anything is possible but I could guarantee that Edwards and Bradshaw won't be on an NBA roster and I can't see them starting for any G League team so they really should stay in college. I can't see Ugo ever playing in the NBA, just too slow. Reeves has improved to the point where I'm sure he will make an NBA roster next year. Dilly is a lottery pick and I think Shep is as well if he goes. I see DJ as a 2nd round pick that will eventually make an NBA team.

None of these guys are ready for nba but most of the team will leave anyways. This just isn’t sustainable anymore. People understood when Wall, Cousins, Davis, Towns, Fox and players of that caliber went pro but when you have guys like Edwards, Bradshaw, Skal, Boston, and so many more leaving after one year it makes this whole thing exhausting.
This exactly, I think we can all see that a few of our guys have talent. But it’s talent that needs time and especially strength. But it never stays here to become what they could be. It’s frustrating AF.
