With the difference in talent each had,no way. When Pope was hired he had no recruits and started from scratch.I hoped he would make the dance and if he won a game that would be icing on the cake.
Put him on ignore. I mean unless you want to join him in misery 24x7.

I hate Cal more than anyone but to say we don’t have issues is crazy …. I like Pope and all but I mean we are 19-10 (8-8) regardless of first year or not this is freaking UK. I mean has our standards been lowered around here or what. I mean Tubby would get hammered for seasons like these. His nickname was 10 loss Tubby after all. I sure hope we make a run in the tournament because something has got to come from this.
This is not a typical UK roster AND this makeshift roster is injury riddled. Some are just brats. Its that cut and dried.
What did you expect? Pope had 4 to 6 weeks to assemble a whole team from leftovers in the portal. If you want to blame someone blame Calipari who took our whole team and recruits with him. And oh by the way even with all those obstacles we will still have a better SEC record and NCAA tournament seed.
Including yourself? You come around about 4-6 times per month, attacking posters. It seems you spend most of your time in the football section, so not sure why you come here. I see that you loved the Arkansas games.
It isn't the roster makeup in a short period of time, or the injuries, that upset people. Those things are quite understandable. It's the consistency of not being ready for games (we saw a possible reason why before the game today), the inconsistent effort on defense, times where the guys just stand around on offense instead of helping one another, the poor body language at times. Fans see these type of things, and I think Pope is held to a higher standard on those types of things simply because of where he came from.
That’s the reason I said I guess I hope we make a tournament run. I agree about 4-6 weeks to put a team together but there were a lot of players that went other places from the portal because they were asking for more $$$$$. I have bad news for all of us fans if Pope is reluctant to pay players like he was a lot of the portal players from this past offseason we are going to have a lot of issues. In order to have the good players you have to pay the good players!

And you THINK that finishing .500 in the league is unacceptable with the level of players CMP was able to recruit after practically every available top talented player had already signed elsewhere???
I predicted 9-9 for this team IN OCTOBER, and that was looking at the full roster. Something we haven't had but for 7 games all freaking year.
And guess what??? Our record would have been WORSE if Cal had stayed another year.
If only we could watch the team we WOULD have had with Cal coaching them up to know for sure........
Oh, wait.....we do have. Arkansas 17-12, 6-10 in the SEC.
Would that record have been acceptable and up to UK standards.
Fans like you would have canned Rick Pitino after year 1. That 14-14 record sure wasn't up to our "standard", and RP started with at least 5 players on his first roster.
But, given time to rebuild the program, RP RAISED the standard of UK basketball to a whole new level.
Let's give CMP time to see if he can do the same thing. JVC destroyed this program, now SOMEONE has to build it back.
It took RP 3 years to rebuild and you think CMP should have done it in 60 days. SMH.

Pope's first season here under the complete circumstances that has been in place since arriving, compounding everything are the injury issues this FIRST SEASON. and he's got us to 19-9.
Comparing with how Cal came in and knocked it out of the park in his first year with kentucky, maybe it's unfair to roughly equate CCC's beginning here, and look at other coaches...... but that's not my point into going into any of that.
I was so hugely critical of CCC staying at Kentucky as head coach in the immediate aftermath of the worst season in the history of Kentucky basketball, HIS worst season. Everyone said basically it was a fluke COVID year and get over it, and it continued, and CCC led onwards. He had seasons after that ( from 9-16 to 26 - 8,22-12, 23-10 upset both years in first round of the NCAA tournament. Until it ended.
Pope had to take over - ^^^ as above ^^^^
(as apparently everyone else knows about it but you OP)
and he's navigated EVERYTHING to a 19-9 already.
It's amazing it wasn't already - and WILL NOT BE - A DISASTER of a season.
It's had some historic success already with Pope. A very tough and trying year, a rollercoaster. We're lucky we have him and his style instead of what came before. Let the first season end before making a not so veiled cheap shot that is so cynical to even make in the immediate aftermath of playing #1 Auburn .... i'm stopin there. everyone here is ripping you anyway. deservedly so.
