Mark Pope "Coming In Hot" on UGA Transfer (Travis Graf)

You deserve it, my bro. I find you to be a very misunderstood poster sometimes.

Should I be using Torvik or some other webpage to view the analytics that people are raving about? I’m genuinely clueless
I use torvik myself but I saw that Casey kid on Twitter say he is like the 93 percentile in catch and shoot 3s which is very good

I went through that Crown tournament. The talent is really poor. Kam Williams being on Tulane(in the tourney) could’ve been who he meant when he got the information.

Only players worthy of consideration imo:
Wesley Yates-USC(edited to add Brooks recruited him out of HS)
Moustapha Thiam- UCF
Keyshawn Hall- UCF(already in the portal)
Michael Rataj- OSU (already in portal)
Yates is my guess

He REALLY came on late in the year.

15 against Gonzaga
24 against Oklahoma
15 against Vandy
26 against Texas
21 against Florida
18 against Auburn
16 against Mizzou
19 against Tex A&M
23 against Miss State

ALL of those games occurred AFTER Feb 8th. Scored double figures in 10 straight to close out the year.
I don't know if those games were consecutive but that's 19.7 ppg again elite competition. Those are star numbers and folks talking about him like he's a scrub. Pope coached against this guy so I'm sure he knows what kind of player he's recruiting.

Word is Thornton wants to stay at OSU, but contingent on who else they bring in. And he wants paid. Ohio State will pay, but he doesn't want to be on a .500 team.

Pope needs to get those superstar portal players he said he was going to get. The guys from Tulane and Georgia sure don't fit that.
I don’t think he really meant superstar but a really good player/person that fits his system. He just threw that out there to make us feel good.
Sometimes I think Pope says things with out thinking first like the paying for the fans gas to get to Milwaukee and buying ice cream at Rupp, he’s just a good guy with a big heart that tries to please everyone.

I trust Pope's judgment. I think that he values perimeter defense now that we had to suffer through a season of limited ball penetration defense.

You get this kid and Smith to close out the perimeter.
Smith not more than average as a defender. At the risk of being banned again, it’s my observation that white point guards who can turn their man are few and far between. He’s a great assist man but I’d be looking for someone who can do both. Ziegler for UT a good example tho I’d prefer a taller variety.

As for Demary, I’m a yes definitely

Pope understands something I'm not sure everyone on this thread gets and that is that UK is operating under a de facto hard salary cap so getting into a bidding war to lure an All-American away from a major basketball school may not be the way to go. If you pay $3 million for 1 player, the rest of the team may have less talent than you need.

most important is finding frontcourt players that can rebound and defend well with solid physicality

The worst scenario for backcourt is using Jasper as pg1, this is not that bad. But if we do not have solid frontcourt, we will definitely fail next year

We definitely need huge update for frontcourt next year

If the entire season and last night in particular showed us anything it's that we need to get bigger, quicker and more athletic at a lot of positions. Demary would've been the most athletic guy on our team this year. And he shoots from 3 at a pretty good percentage, especially in catch and shoot, which Pope and the staff really look for.

Dent was my favorite guy in the portal and losing him sucks. But he's from LA and they likely overpaid so what can you do? A lot of the low-information posters here (several of which are in this thread) LOL'd at us signing Butler last year, so let's just see what happens. Pope's got a head start this year and a big NIL budget. Things will work out.

Yep. We really need a guy who can rebound. This season our bigs were terrible at going after the ball.

According to Evan Miya, better defensively than offensively. Adequate 3-point shooter. Not Lamont Butler on D, but adequate. Not a true point guard but can play there.

Guess we are all on the “smith” lookout for the next few days or weeks but I can’t say this young man from Georgia would give me a lot of confidence going in to next year at the point.

On smith lookout?
Did Thornton for Ohio st enter? I see his name in other messages, but idk if he has?
Do we go all in for Thomas???
Or is this guy a fall back in case the others I’ve mentioned are misses for us?
Just let Pope get who he has seen play and who he wants. That is unless you know more than the coach who is responsible for the team.

Also add passing skills to rebound and defense on the front court player

That’s why Pope makes the big bucks. That’s what he will have to find
This type of guy is more likely to come from high school recruits than portal. When you can pass as well as rebound and defend, you will definitely be selected in NBA... (I do not say HS recruits will become this type of player in year 1, but could become in later years)

It is likely portal has almost zero this type of player

2 freshmen, a player that didn't play much at all, Oweh who played SF the majority of the year, Williams was the center, and a player that played 9 games

What on earth are you talking about "over recruiting"
This is not cal university anymore we build from within. We need glass cleaners alot more than 6ft3 guards what the hell are you thinking

Pope got Amari Williams and Garrison last year. Now, maybe Pope is okay with BG/MM at that spot and doesn’t go get someone, we will see. But if he gets a 5 that can’t pass, it will be very difficult to run a working 5 out attack predicated on heavy zoom action. Worst case scenario you find a unicorn in Europe

Will see how pope deals with frontcourt recruiting

If we do not recruit solid frontcourt pieces, we could envision a failure in next year before playing any game

You said it. We are no longer just going to get "the dudes" like Cal got. Glad he's gone but at the same time, who was it said, "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction." Forget who said that.
