Mark Pope and his calm demeanor

Watching how Pope conducts and handles himself emotionally, still makes me not regret where we are now. You could always pick out Caliparis voice overtop of the crowd. His acrobats, jumping up and down like a maniac always rubbed off on our guys negatively. With Oweh attempting that dunk resulting in points on the other end, Cal would probably throw his shoe somebody.

I’m glad we someone level headed to handle high pressure situations, and not someone who screams and whines like a Coach Cal or Hurly.

It’ll never work here. Every good coach behaves like a lunatic. There is literally only one way to get a player’s attention and that is by punching them on the sideline. Handling your business privately in the locker room won’t work because….reasons

GREAT POST!! I feel the same way because I realize that Pope as a coach will continue to grow into his position. As you stated, he presents himself a lot better than another coach who use to look like an absolute maniac running up and down the bench yelling at players and refs.

Lol less than two days ago people here were complaining about his demeanor and saying he wasn't intense enough to motivate his guys.

Tubby used to get tons of grief on here for not showing enough emotion. Same with BCG. Then in the beginning people loved Cals “passion on the sideline” until he lost his mind after 2020. Basically if you’re winning your demeanor is good and if you’re losing it sucks, no matter what it is.

Tubster would get that death stare when his eyeballs looked like they'd pop out lol..

That was the turning point of that 2003 season when they ended up earning the #1 seed overall…

I am thinking it was at Vandy maybe when Tubby called a timeout, ripped off his jacket and flung it toward the bench, followed that with the ultimate death stare as the guys came to the bench…they proceeded to start playing amazing TEAM basketball for the rest of the season.

One of my favorite UK teams of all time, they were fun to watch, especially after that.

Pope needs to step it up and make sure old ladies get seats like Knight did.

Angry Chair GIF

Heard on Cutler show that someone connected with BYU said Pope has a secret temper that doesn't come out often.

A little Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde

After the Ole Miss game, Pope didn’t hide from it when asked about the blood on his hand.

He just said having that level of fire/emotion needs to be calculated, or else it can become useless noise

I like his demeanor, this year will test it. You don’t have to act like a blooming idiot to get results. He knows when to turn it on and off, I’m sure the players can attest to that from seeing it in the locker room.
I've never seen him "turn it on". Always has the same demeanor. Even towards officials.

03/04 & 04/05 rank as two of my favorite UK teams of all time. A lot of memorable games those two years. Tubby was so cool in that FT win against Louisville. That Daniel’s layup against MSSt is one I always remember.

I've heard that whatever he said or did at halftime of the Vandy game should been bottled up. It completely changed that season.

I heard that Tubby asked Sparks about his Christmas plans before he shot those foul shots. I don't know if it's true or not but seems like he was trying to ease the pressure on Sparks or had complete confidence that he'd make them. It's a pretty cool story if true.

I'm a firm believer you, if need to, yell, scream and throat punch on practice days.
During the game, you reinforce, remind and remember what you practiced.

He is a likable guy. Caught down if his post game with Leach and he cut in one time to tell everybody how much he admired them sticking around because his daughters were in the process of leaving, then he had everybody BOO them😄

You are correct. He behaves mostly nicely, expect when he got blood on his hands, but that was probably good. I like Pope and am feeling good that he is our coach. I think what most fans miss is that it is hard to coach when you don't have your point guard, or backup point guard in the game. He is still keeping the team together through the injuries. This is a good team. I love them.

Just like Todd Golden at Fla, if he were 13-9 he would have been fired
