It is infinitely harder to win at Kentucky football then Georgia basketball. Mark Stoops goes to a bowl game every year and wins 7-10 games nearly every year and receives luke warm support from Kentucky fans. He’s one 6-6 season away from losing most of the fanbase.

Mark Fox was a Georgia for 9 years, made 2 NCAA Tournaments, TWO! He had zero NCAA Tournament wins in 9 years, and is a good coach. Dude was 3-28 at Cal but is a good X’s and O’s coach. Y’all always talk about last 4 years, his last 4 years he was 38-87 and is celebrated. This coming from the fanbase that has trashed every coach in the basketball office for a decade. Mark Fox is objectively awful as a coach and all this agenda driven fake love is hilarious.

He’s not the head coach. You’re comparing other head coach receptions with ppls opinion about him as an addition to the staff.

Joker Phillips was a great assistant…Kenny Payne was a great assistant…but both weren’t good head coaches.

Believe it or not, you can have impactful qualities that make a difference without being a head coach. Some guys are better built for support.

Fox was good at Nevada, average at Georgia, and terrible at Cal.

Larry Shyatt could not stick a head coaching position, but he was pivotal during Florida’s run in the late 2000’s as an assistant.

I've always said this. Why the heck you get rid of Fox and hire Crean. So darn devastating to this guy's resume. He was building at Georgia within his realm of capabilities. Which was better than anything Crean brought to the table. I'm 100% glad he is on our staff. The guy is a sleeper.

Al McGuire famously said of coaching that you had to be smart enough to do it but dumb enough to think it important. I suspect that regarding the technical aspects of coaching that every coach from 6th grade to the pros knows 95% of it. What separates a "good " coach from a bad is the ability to teach players that stuff and then motivate the players to do it at the right time. Then when a program aspires to be a certain size, you need a touch of the CEO. The NBA plays Musical Chairs with coaches for personality reasons. Not because so-and-so is a genius about how to play hoops.

A cumulative record will tell you something about a coach but it won't always tell you if he knows how to play the game.
